Cooling Fan Coming On Unnecessarily

Recently my engine cooling fan has been coming on and being quite loud indicating it's spinning pretty fast, but the engine temp is sat at just under 90 so I don't think it's actually overheating. Is the fan controlled by a thermostat that could have potentially gone faulty telling it the engine is too hot?

Car is a 2008 2.0tdci non dpf

Have you had the AC on?

No, my AC needs regassing so I've been leaving it off

Sounds like a faulty temperature sensor to me

I'm sure I've still got my Mk2 diesel Haynes manual around somewhere I'll see if I can find it and see where the sensor is

Thanks :) Fordpartsuk has it for other engines but not the diesels :s
