I have a 2005/54 Mk1 1.8 115, looking to blank my EGR in the next week. Would mine be a Euro 3 or Euro 4? And what's the deal with the ones with the hole in the middle, seems a bit pointless to me, is it avoid the EML coming on? Would the EML even be an issue on mine?

Also, do I need a new EGR gasket to fit?

The eml doesn't always come on.  Pitting a hole in the blank just defeats the purpose.  It might tell you on your v5 the euro number.  They are on eBay for a few quid.

What happens with the pipe that comes off the exhaust into the EGR after blanking? Does that not just get full of soot and harm the engine? Is it worth blanking it off at both ends, or is that where the blank fits anyway?

Don't worry about the exhaust bit it will be fine.  You get cleaner air after blanking.  Don't need to blank both ends.
