  1. I think FORD now only have a ONE YEAR WARRANTY on trim and adjustments etc etc. by adjustments they mean rattles and other small things....so cutting the dash is ok (double check first!!!) However combey is right in saying actions or modifications that cause damage to other warrantied parts of the car will not be sorted under the warranty....As everyone else has said a FORD dealer will try its hardest ti avoid paying out on any waranty claims, and FORD themselves have a procedure to be followed by the dealer for warrantied work. Ie ford insist on a DTC code before authorising any work by the d
  2. Sorry to hijack the thread but G1YGJ i see you have the 1.8 engine in your focus. Is it the Duratec HE 1.8.....and if so does it ever "pink" or knock as they call it nowadays, Mine does on light throttle openings and sometimse uphills
  3. If you google deep enough you can find bad news about every car out there......so I wouldnt worry too much about it. the only advice I can give is avoid Ford dealerships for any work it needs and if you have the 1.6 Tdi engine, change the oil every 6000miles and let the car idle for 30 secs or so before switching off, This engine has turbo problems that can kill an engine off if not looked after well!!
  4. wouldnt mod it whilst its still under warranty mate!!
  5. I have the Duratec HE 1.8 125 bhp and when pushed a little really goes well......I had the 1.6 ZETEC SE in my MK1 Focus and was only just enough in my opinion, so if they still fit it into heavier MK2's I would say it would be underpowered slightly.....If they still do it the VCT 115 bhp 1.6 that may be better....The economy of the 1.8 is around 30mpg on mostly local trips. And I still urge buyers to test drive at 70 mph on a dual carriageway or motorway to see what the RPM's are, Im not sure what your current 2.0l does, but my 1.8 is doing 3200 rpm @ 70 mph , which on motorways is quite high
  6. the only way it could effect the warranty is .....If you scratched the metal body whilst doing it and rust deveolped around that spot. But i wouldnt worry about it at all!!!
  7. I had the mk1 zetec se 1,6 and it was ok for the MK1 but in Mk2 it may not be as nippy, I have the 1.8 duratec HE and its very good apart from the High final drive ratio (3250 rpm @70mph) Remember the new focus is due out very soon (afaik) so therefore may knock the prices of the older ones down. Might be worth finding out the rlease date of the new model, and waiting..... Also remember the aftersales from FORD is "usually" competely rubbish so choose carefully and dont let the dealer dictate what car you can have.....And be also wary of some dealers make you commit to buy the car (ford direct
  8. Your instrument panel has the same crease mine has, just above the S on your pic ....... I guess most focus's will.....Poor really when they say "the focus is as good as VW build"
  9. Any guessing what the PERSONALITY values mean...... :?
  10. I have the MK2 1.8 Duratec ztetc climate. and Its not fidgety, but its not as sure footed as my older MK1 focus was. BUT i have the 17" sport rims wuth 205 50 17's on which are pretty wide and dont dig in as well if you get my point......but once its set for the corner it does grip well, and stays set....I hope that makes sense. BUT IT SHOULDNT BE FIDGETY.......
  11. Mines the same, after 1 Mile the temp gauge is in its normal position, and only a minimal heat goming from vents. as normal
  12. I think my guage does the same, but cant think about if there is heat, will check tonight to see mate.
  13. Thats probably right for a fuel filter from a Ford dealer.
  14. A gen ford or a pattern part.....I paid £40 for oil and filter for mine from fords the robbing buggers. And this time I have paid £17 for the same stuff, at my Independent ford parts retailer
  15. I did post it a while ago, But you want to check out at the bottom of the front wings behind the arch liner.
  16. Had a bufty moment today and took my rear light clusters out because there was a lot of "gunk" around the bodywork where the unit fits at the bottom, BUT I was suprised just how much "gunk" there was hidden between the cluster and the body.....So if your a bufty or just like to keep a clean car, maybe wort a clean out, Its not suprising really that muck and other grubby stuff gathers there, as its a water drain for the tailgate appature!!!!
  17. My 1,8 rattles or "knocks" under light load too, its what we used to call PINKING, its been into Dealers many times but they wont/cant fix it. I have now taken it up with FORD themselves as its just not what a modern engine should do.
  18. you dont want a MERC.....theyre nowhere near as good as they were....Stick with the blue oval, at least you know what to expect!!
  19. Ask the service receptionist if you can Demonstrate it to the HEAD TECHNICIAN.....the reception guys/gals are just paper sifters really....I have often been quite firm with them and probably a pain in the * * * *, but i always make sure im polite and always say thanks for their patience and efforts....Im pretty sure theyll sort your car that has such an obvious fault!!!
  20. A little tip when dealing with FORD dealers, be FIRM but fair with them.....Once you have driven that car off the forcourt, They basically will try anything, to avoid spending money on your car unless they are confident they can claim the costs back of FORD. Dont let them fob you off with excuses about it not showing any faults on the computer. Always demonstrate the problems to the HEAD TECHNICIAN, dont just let the service receptionist write them down...Dont go in with an attitude but on the other hand dont let them bull* * * * you.....The best excuses i have had range from "they do that so
  21. Mk1 and Mk2 are different altogether, You could actually change the MK1/1.5 bearings whereas the MK2 you have to change the whole hub carrier thing. My 07 had a rear wheel bearing changed by ford under warranty in march, and they tried to say it was tyre noise at first, even though i had NEW tyres on and i explained that the noise was there even before the new tyres. Tezza will tell you but I dont think the rears fail as often as the MK1's do......And to be honest I think my bearing went when i hit kerb hard with the wheel during the icy period.....The thing to be aware of is that EBAY will be
  22. Not too well up on A/C, but if your Gas level is too low....the Compressor wont kick in so that the pump isnt damaged due to low lubrication, ie you wont hear the CLUNK, when you turn the A/C on, My Parents 02 focus has the same problem, And im presuming its out of gas as its not been touched since new......and the green light on the A/C button lights up, but the Compressor doesnt kick in. I know u say yours was re-gassed last year, but was it checked for leaks etc etc. BTW if your car is a 99 plate it will be a MK1, also on my 02 focus the A/C automatically came on when the windscreen option
  23. My 17" sport pack wheel had a fight with a kerb over the icy period, and i am trying to find a good repairer, BUT i didnt know that these wheels have a plastic coating over them to stop the polished bit on the rim from corroding/discolouring. And as far as i can find refurbers dont do the plastic coating thing, and LAQUERING the finish peels off, Has anyone seen this before and knows of any way round it, or even better a refurber that can do the plastic coating, The refurber i have asked said to keep the rim polished with AUTOSOLVE,
  24. Gave the car a good clean today and all is looking smart, apart from the grubby looking front calipers, so should i paint them or leave them alone......on one hand id like them to match the car colour (RED), but on the other i dont want to look like a BREMBO wannabe if that makes sense, After all im no spring chicken and if you see some painted caliper jobs round here, it speaks volumes about the driver. (corsa boys etc etc) sort of like putting a VXR badge on a 1.1 litre corsa!!!! Is there another colour worth considering, Silver,Matt black etc etc........If has any experience of painting c
  25. How much are Brake pads BTW, mine need changing and id like to use Ford ones but im not paying stupid money for them
