  1. Not directly about the C-Max but as I've just bought the Ford/Sony MP3 unit for my C-max Zetec, can anyone recommend any software to convert audio files from CD to MP3 so that I can play them on my new stereo!! I've heard you can get hours worth of music on one CD this way but though I have tried no luck yet!!! :? - anyone help me?? Cheers.
  2. RTV - it wasn't when I bought the car it was nearer 3 grand!! Also on the original question it was stated the car was to do around 4-5k per year. This is very low not average. Used prices are always higher for diesels and no one wants the petrol which makes the haggling factor much more effective when buying a petrol - it's a demand thing. You probably would pick up a similar low mileage petrol for about the same saving as new if not more especially at a dealer who wants to shift the petrol stock. Based on your figures I reckon that it would take 3-4 years to save by buying the diesel over pet
  3. Sorry RTV but I disagree!! Ford and whizzpopper cars are similar in costs to service at an independent garage - I would suggest whizzpopper main dealers are similar to Ford in their incompetence and expense! Also it is easy to charge you £149.00 and give you a bill. Have you actually checked to see what has been done and how well? There will always be differences in actual models but overall they are similar. The diesel doesn't make sense unless your mileage is high or your purchase price is amazingly cheap. I would have had to pay almost 3k more for my car when new to get the same with a 1.6
  4. I've just installed the Sony CD/MP3 player in my C-Max Zetec 2004. My car does not have the auxillary socket in the glovebox - anyone know if the wiring is there? I have a Sony CD changer wired up (worked fine with my Ford CD6000) but alas not now. :? Anyone help?
  5. I've had several cars serviced by Ford over the years. And not a single one has ever been done properly. Faults they can't fix properly but charge for, messy oily finger prints over the interior, not filling up the sump fully, incorrectly fitted trim not to mention one occasion they assured me it had been 'fully serviced' and nearly had a fit when I then said right MOT it now! RTV - you are the only person I've ever heard describe Ford servicing as a 'Bargain'!!! :o If you have always had your car correctly serviced by Ford and consider it to have been done well and inexpensively each time th
  6. The Ford C-Max manual does say to let the engine drop to idle speed before switching off the diesel - so maybe 20-30 seconds ain't necessary but I wouldn't want to risk it with my car!! My point is though, how many owners are aware of this and the potential damage if you ignore it? Ford servicing is a rip off whichever car you have!! My mates C-Max 1.6TDCi went in for 'poor performance' and the (Ford) dealer condemmed the turbo and swapped it - fortunately the car was under warranty at the time. He told him that it's only to be expected!!! At 30K miles too!!! I agree this is prob a one off but
  7. I do a large mileage (25k+) a year and have a 1.8 Petrol Zetec with almost 80K. I've had it from new and its been a great motor 100% reliable. With your mileage it doesn't really matter which you go for. The turbo will go on the diesel at highish miles unless the car has been correctly operated (most won't have) This means letting the engine idle before switching off for around 20-30secs to ensure you have oil pressure and circulation in the turbo while it slows down. Most people won't even be aware of this, the exception probably being the enthusiasts here! My mate had a car just like mine e
  8. Thanks BGM, I'm hopeful you could be right on this one as it appears being in close proximity to the car with two keys is what's required. As BGM says - anyone clarify? Seems daft having two keys but you can't reprogramme a new remote because the old one doesn't work! HELP!!
  9. Great stuff guys but can any of you clarify what I need to do? I have the Zetec Max, and the remote fob has packed up. I have both keys and have studied the manual and understand the procedure. BUT it does state that you have to press a button on the original key fob to complete the re-programming. As mine doesn't seem to work at all now I wondered if this was an essential part (I assume it probably is) or will the fact the key is within range of the car be sufficient? Be nice to avoid an expensive trip to Fraud on this one... Over to you guys please!!!!! :?
  10. Sure, it's Glebe Street garage in Huddersfield - highly recommended! :)
  11. Get yourself on the net and check out the Good Garage Scheme. I've just had my 1.8petrol Zetec C-Max 75K sercice done by a member and it's the most thorough service I've ever come across. No bull* * * *, they list EVERYTHING they do and WILL NOT rip you off. Even topped up the A/C for me. Total cost was £260 (110 in parts) but knocks spots off anything a Fraud dealer would do. Everything was done to the letter, all the brakes in bits and cleaned/greased everything. Even cleaned and re-greased the earth strap under the bonnet!
  12. I'm quite new to this forum and have had my Zetec 1.8 petrol since new. Now with 77k on it it has been the most reliable new car I've had. I've been quite shocked at how many probs the diesel cars have. I nearly bought the 1.6TDCi - very glad I didn't now! In this case above I think incignia should reject the vehicle as not fit for the purpose it was intended for. Hadenuff is quite correct - get trading standards involved and if necessary the small claims court. Demand a car the same without the faults or your money back! Stand up for yourself and don't be scared to fight your corner.
  13. I have just installed a CD/MP3 Sony unit into my 2004 Zetec C-Max. I also have the Sony 6 Disc autochanger connected but it doesn't appear to be working. It was connected to the original Ford CD6000 unit before and worked intermittently. Anyone know if I can make this all work together? If so how?! Cheers :?
  14. Oh dear - I touched a nerve there I think I do apologise. An old chap used to live down our street. He was a limbless ex-service man and was still driving up until just before his death at 83. He managed very well without parking sensors in his motability Fiesta and Focus - without damaging either of them. Also - if you are reversing correctly you will be travelling very slowly. The bumpers fitted to most modern cars will withstand an impact of up to around 12mph without damage so I'm sorry - I just can't see the point of them. I'd say if you lack the confidence to reverse. you maybe shouldn't
