Thanks for the responses, i'm going to test drive a second hand 1.8 Petrol and 1.6 TDCI (110 bhp) to see how they compare.

I worked out that in 2 years of C-Max ownership we saved over £1500 in fuel. Our Diesel cost us £500 more than an 1800 Petrol that garage was also selling. So we are £1000 better off plus we are still saving 8) We do about 12,000 miles a year. I only do about 4-5K miles a year and would plan to keep the car for about 5 years. So the overall millage is never going to be high. That why i was thinkg about the 1.8 Petrol but everyone keeps suggesting the diesels.

I see most people recomend the Diesel engines but due to the lower price of the petrols and the generally low millage i do was think about a petrol model. Have any of you got one and do they perform acceptable?
