  1. Thanks for all the input people, most appreciated as I am wondering which direction to take next. it has been pointed out to me by the garage that the Cmax handbook, unlike the Focus handbook, states that that after applying the handbrake you must select first or reverse gear, this is appears to be at all times, not just on hills. I checked the handbook and it does, so I'm a bit stumped at the moment Mochie
  2. Well as for security, I back the car into my drive as I have restricted vision on to the road so its easier and safer to pull out forwards, also I try not to be lazy and put the car in the garage rather than leave it on the drive. As for advanced driving and off road experience, I'm probably like 90 % of drivers on the and have experience of neither although I can see that the more extreme conditions of off road terrain could warrant parking in gear. I'm still trying to work out which part of the brake system the handbrake works in conjuction with when parked and the engine switched off ? Anyh
  3. Cant agree with that in the 21st century, If a handbrake can't hold the car on its own with modern technology, why is it there. What if its a diesel, park up, leave it in gear, glow plugs still hot, gets a shunt or breaks fail, engine could fire up again and be a run away

On the the first service she pointed out the squealing noise when braking on reversing and as I have read in this forum, the dealer said yes, known problem, we will order the components and organise the fix, all under warranty of course. 2 weeks later, get the call, parts are in, so took car in to dealer. No problem, picked up the car a few hours later and drove home. I now found out since reading the forum the fix is to change pads and calipers as the dealer was not particularly forthcoming with this info. Anyway, 4 days later, my wif
