  1. MATT Cheers for the info. - I didn't think think to look in the Focus section as I tend to only look in the C-Max forum but I'll have a good study of all the info. (you're right there is a load of threads on the subject!). I would still be interested to know of any C-Maxers out there who have had their car chipped and what there experience and recommendations would be.
  2. Can anyone offer advice on performance diesel chips? I have noticed more and more adverts for them and I saw one advertised for my car (a company called I-tunit, I think) claiming a power increase of 20 bhp at a cost of £450 fitted. Basically, are they worth it?, does the fitting affect warranty?, how much do they affect fuel economy?, does an extra 20 bhp make the car a lot quicker?, do they have any adverse on the life of the engine? etc etc. Thankyou.
  3. Sounds suspiciously like one of the old favourites i.e a faulty EGR valve. I have had as well as many C-Max owners exactly the same experience as you although to be honest I can't remember hearing a clicking noise as you describe. There are a few threads on the forum relating to this and several peopleon here who are experts on the subject who can tell you exactly what the problem is but I took mine back to the dealer and got it back and it never happened again, thankfully.
  4. Sorry i should have said that my Ford dealer was Peoples Ford in Edinburgh!
  5. I paid £129 for the first service on my 2.0 Tdci so the figures that you have been quoted appear to be a tad on the expensive side unless the 1.6 Tdci is more expensive to service for some reason. I would shop around further if you can or speak to the service managers of the two dealers you spoke to and tell them that that they are expensive in comparison and see if they will lower their prices. Remember that you can now get your car serviced at a non-franchised garage as long as they use ford parts etc and it will mean that your warranty will not be affected. I would have had my car serviced
  6. aristotle45 Do you know exactly what software the dealer downloaded onto the chip? I would be interested to know and has it affected the performance of the car either for the better or for worse or is it just the same? Incidentally can anyone offer advice on performance chips for diesel engines. I saw an advert for one (i-tunit I think) which claimed to increase power by 20 bhp and was considering it for my car but will it affect warranty and how does it affect fuel economy? The cost was £400. Thanks.
  7. roscoe You keep missing the point! Your car may be ok but there are many many others who are not in the fortunate position of getting fuel return figures like yours for the same car with the same engine! I try to keep my points brief which is why I didn't quote the whole of your post. You may get fuel return figures like yours sitting behind a lorry at 55mph for 30 miles but I repeat that is definetly not real world motoring and yes you may get 49mpg brim to brim on previous personal tests but ask someone with a car that regularly gets low return figures to do the same tests and I bet that
  8. Roscoe My point stated 'the poor fuel consumption figures on most of the early build C-Maxies'. Maybe your C-Max is fine on fuel economy but read most of the threads on here and you'll see that there are many people with the 2.0 Tdci engine who are unhappy with their mileage return figures. My main grumble is the disparity between what different vehicles with the same engine return to the gallon/litre. I understand your point, however, 'following a truck up the M3 motorway at 55mph for 30 miles is hardly real world motoring and I also owned previous to my Maxie a renault megane 1.9 Dci which
  9. The poor fuel consumption figures that most of the early build C-Maxies get is one of the reasons that I decided to sell my 54 plate 2.0tdci zetec. No matter how I did my own calculations (via the trip computer or mileage divide by fuel used) my average came out at anything fom 37-43 mpg which I deemed unacceptable from a company the size of Ford who were claiming figures in the 50s for the combined cycle. Every other car from various manufacturers that I have owned has returned figures close to or better than the stated literature figures. The current car that I traded my C-max against is a
  10. Justice You are absolutely right about customer service as it was also a major issue in my decision to part ex my C-Max for the Skoda. I was trying to keep my point short but if I had elaborated I could have given various examples about poor customer service. Funnily enough I got a letter form Ford last week, the one that I am sure everyone gets after one years ownership and the part where it asks for points that would make your visit to to your dealer a better experience I highlighted my concerns particularly work that was to be carried out but hadn't been. On one occasion (the one where th
  11. Just got rid of my C-Max after 12 months of very troublesome ownership, had the car (54 plate 2.0 tdci zetec) back to the dealer 13 times in the 12 months with 3 problems outstanding when I part exchanged it. One of the problems was a rumbling noise that Ford couldn't locate. The noise seemed to be coming from front nearside suspension also. I really wanted to like the C-max but got to the stage where I was 'having to drive it' as opposed to 'wanting to drive it' and the final straw for me was rattles coming from the dashboard and seatbelt areas which despite my dealer having the car for 4 da
  12. Thanks for your comments and tips Dennis but it is definetly the rear view mirror and not anything else (believe me I tried everything) which is vibrating. The reason I know is that with the mirror in situ you can tap the back of it i.e the side nearest to the windscreen and the vibration happens as though there is something loose inside the mirror itself. It does happen more often when the weather is warmer (maybe causing expansion of the mirror assembly itself) and the only way to solve it is to take the mirror off, wrap an elastic band around it and put it back in place. Coincidentally I've
  13. I don't know if I am alone in experiencing this problem but for the second time I have had to have a new interior rear view mirror (not the auto-dimming one) ordered by my dealer. When I first got my C-max (54 plate 2.0 Tdci zetec) 11 months ago one of the problems that I had was the most annoying buzzing coming from what I presumed was the dashboard area. For me it took away all the pleasure of having a new car and taking the car back to my dealer got no result i.e I got the usual 'we couldn't find anything wrong'. When I took it back the second time the Master Technician (!) came out with me
  14. At the weekend I got a set of mud-flaps for my 11 month old 2.0 Tdci Zetec C-MAX and after reading the fitting instructions which tells you to remove the wheels I duly got my trolley jack out and tried to take the front wheels off. This was the first time the wheels would ever have been taken off as I haven't had a puncture or had the wheels taken off for any other reason. The wheel nuts came out okay but the wheels wouldn't budge and seemed to be 'fused' on to the hubs. I tried the rears and they were exactly the same. I managed to fit the front mud-flaps by turning the front wheels to full l
  15. I have a 54 plate 2.0 Tdci Zetec with 12000 miles on the clock and recently covered 1000 miles travelling from Edinburgh to Dorset and back on holiday using mostly motorways except the A36 between Bath and Bournemouth. I cruised mostly at 80-85mph on the motorways (it's tedious keeping to 70 on a long journey I find) and elsewhwhere generally kept to the speed limits and tried to be light with the right foot, except when overtaking. The weather was excellent so the air-con was on a lot and I averaged 42.4 mpg according to the computer. Doing the calculation without the computer it worked out a
  16. It is normal and in fact several other manufacturers vehicles do the same thing (my other half's citroen definetly does). You just have to get into the habit of switching it off or turn your fan direction dial so that it isn't pointing quite at the windscreen setting but rather a little to one side of it which gives almost the full effect as if it were. This also means that if you leave the dial in this position it won't switch on the air-con the next time you start the engine.
