  1. best way to fit the new seal is to use an old driveshaft end with the clip removed, knocks them in the right depth without damaging them. thats how we fit them at work to the gearboxes.
  2. that shaft is proper rusty where it goes into the seal :shock: what you have to watch for is the rust creeping down the shaft into the seal, makes the metal rough and the seal leaks, usualy happens on cars that stand around a bit. make sure whoever does it cleans the shaft up with some emery paper before they refit it. most garages should be able to turn the job around in an hour for you with a new seal costing about £7-8 each + a bit of oil.
