  1. I've seen a long term test mk2 ST in EVO magazine with ford produced and fitted 20" versions of the standard ST design alloys, just not sure if they're generally available for sale through ford dealers yet. 8)
  2. Filled up with BP ultimate last week to see if it made any differance from the standard fuel I usually get from sainsburys. And i've got to say it doesn't feel any different performance wise and I'm sure I'm getting less mpg.To be honest I've also tried optimax unleaded and sainsburys own high octane petrol and not seen any great improvement especially in the mpg stakes bringing me to the conclusion that if you've got a 100ps 1.6l unit under your bonnet stick with the standard unleaded and save your cash for something more useful. :)
  3. When reading the honest john section in saturdays Telegraph motoring sup he stated that the 100ps 1.6 engine in the mk2 is a chain cam unit.Is this true or has he got it wrong as I just assumed it would have a cambelt(he's usually pretty good). It would be good to think I wouldn't have worry about snapping cambelt horror stories. :? :?:
  4. Used to have this niggle in my mk1 also happens in my mk2.Apparently this happens if you try to put the car into reverse to quickly , leave it a few seconds after depressing the clutch before engaging reverse gear and it should go in first time .Its got something to do with the inner workings of the gearbox apparently and is not a fault :)
  5. I recently had a new screen fitted but have had no problems with noisy wipers, but i did give the screen a good clean with autoglym glass cleaner after the screen had been fitted.
  6. New screen and weather strip fitted today it looks like they've done agood job with no damage to the paintwork. It also looks like the new screen is an updated version as it has a deeper shaded area around the rearview mirror as on the old screen this didn't come down as far as the mirror but now it does,a good result so for anyone with this little problem this I'm afraid is the rather drastic solution :D Steve.
  7. Any idea on the approx price including fitting :?:
  8. Went back to the dealers today so that autowindscreen chap could have a look.It would seem that ford are well aware of the issue regarding the strip as the windscreen fitter has seen this on several mk2's.The only way the strip can be properly replaced is by removing the screen which will mean having a completely new screen fitted,as its virtually impossible not to break the old screen on removal. It would seem that this little weather strip issue could cost ford alot of cash,I'm just glad I'm not paying for it.Anyway booked in next week(ford have got to order the screen)so lets hope thats the
  9. Ford have just informed me that the screen may have to be removed so that the new strip can be fitted.I,m a bit concerned about this as i,ve read of problems arrising from having screens replaced(bad fitting, scratched paintwork etc) and it seems a bit extreme to go through this process of replacing a perfectly good factory fitted screen for the sake of a basicly cosmetic problem(albeit an annoying one).My gut tells me I should be pushing them towards a less invasive solution like just sticking it in the "right" position. :? Any thoughts ? Steve
  10. Had the strip resealed at ford yesterday but i'm afraid to say i'm none to impressed with the job they did,its not sitting correctly in the groove that surrounds the screen and now sits slightly proud of the roofline(this should sit about 4mm below the roofline). So I have been back to ford this morning for a whinge, the result being that they will have to replace the entire strip to get a secure accurate fit which will require the services of autowindscreens.Lets hope this sorts the problem. I'll post the results of this for anyone who may be interested. Steve.
  11. Does anybody know if the fog light wiring loom is in place behind the bumper and in the dashboard on the LX as was thinking of looking into having this done at some point. :?: :)
  12. As mentioned on my previous topic I have had a bit of a problem with a build up of condensation in the rear light clusters(the indicators to be exact). As this seems not to be clearing up I took a trip up to my local ford dealer and they are going to replace both clusters under warranty.A good result. :) So if theres anyone else with this issue its well worth a visit to the dealers.
  13. Been to the dealers today the technician had seen the problem before .I got the impression from what he said that it is a known problem on the mk2.Anyway it needs resealing, they didn't have enough in stock to do it today so its booked in to be done on the same day as the service .Thankfully still under warranty so at no cost :)
  14. Will be paying a visit to the dealers asap.I didn't think to much about it the first time as it seemed to go back ok and haven't been able to get the dealers since seeing it again. Will try and get it looked at before its service next week,so if anything needs doing or any parts need ordering they can get it organised and do it then.
  15. I've had to slot it back into place a few times now seems alright for a while then works its way back off.I think it might need a bit of help to keep it in place.
  16. Thanks Tony, booked in for first service next week before the first years warranty expires will bring both issues up then and hopefully get them sorted under warranty.
  17. While cleaning the windscreen I have noticed that the black seal on the edge of the screen has pulled away along the roofline edge.Even though it goes back into place fairly easily (it's not the first time) I don't think this should happen and wondered if anyone else has had a similar problem, plus on a slightly different note should I be to concerned about a bit of condensation in the rear light clusters or is this normal in certain weather conditions :? :?: cheers Steve :)
  18. To be honest the shape of the car seems to flow better without it,having been forced into taking it off I'm now not sure it ever needed it plus be warned if you ever need a push in a muddy field it's the first thing they'll get hold of. But that said if you like them fair enough ,they do look ok when on. :)
  19. The spoiler in question was part of the body kit and was attatched to the boot lid just below the rear window where the ford badge sits, just the right level for people to get a hold when giving you a push, unfortunatly. The top spoiler is still in tact even though the ST spoiler would look the part,i may look into that at a later date
  20. I managed to get the stuff off using a hairdryer,a couple of now sore thumb nails and finished with some autoglym intensive tar remover and a good polish. It took a while but was worth it,just not sure if i'm going to put the spoiler back as I think it looks sleeker without it :)
  21. Due to an unfortunate accident in a muddy field I have had to remove the small spoiler which was attatched to my rear hatch. The problem is does anyone know how to remove the sealant/adhessive that is still attatched to the paintwork. The bloke at my local Ford bodyshop wanted 250+vat to do this as he said they would have to respray the whole back door,I'm not convinced ,any advise would be appreciated. Thanks Steve
