  1. My car is still with the local dealers waiting for a modified EGR to be delivered. I have been supplied with a hire care via Ford. No sign of the part and I am now waiting on the dealer to let me know when it's been fixed. Been faulty over three weeks now!!!
  2. 1955diesel How's your new ERG valve doing? Any problems?
  3. Faulty EGR a thought. I have been thinking about this problem and it does not seem to make sense. If the valve sticks mechanically, you would assume it would open under boost and stick there. If this was the case then when you stopped and the engine was idling you would not be able to pull away and would not get any response to the throttle (valve stuck open). To my knowledge this has never been posted. All issues relate to ‘starting’. You would also assume a ‘sticking valve’ would cause poor running etc. My knowledge of this is limited and I may be missing something but is there som
  4. Mine went faulty at 25000 miles on a 53 Plate 2.0 TDCi Zetec. No warning, would start, but no response from throttle. Car is currently in for replacement valve but they can’t source the modified part. My car has been unusable for 19days. Supplied with a hire car after 14days. Bought the car ex demo/sales-persons car about 9 months ago at just under 20,000. Warranty runs out in September. Mainly short/town driving with the odd motorway trip. Low mileage. Had no trouble with car, performance great, fuel consumption not so great. I put this town to town driving but I am not so sure no
  5. Hi Today was interesting. First I was informed that the dealer could not source a new valve (modified or original). Second they offered a hire car, which turned out to be an 05 plate C-Max - LX Petrol, not Zetec Diesel which mine is. When I went to get the hire car I was invited into the workshop where I was shown my worked on car and the offending part. It was badly gunged (is that a word?) up. I had a chat with the service manager who indicated that he would be in touch with Ford to find out their preference in dealing with this. Wait until the new part is available, or fit an unmo
  6. Well I wasn't that far off the mark with the 'hammer' idea, a tap from a screwdriver is a really useful tip. All I need now is to be able to remove the cover without breaking it and identify the valve. Can anyone help with this? Andytran. I spoke to my dealer service manager today and what they said concurs with your findings. However they have approached Ford Technical (as its a warranty issue) and requested they be allowed to fit and unmodified valve to get me back on the road. This would be replaced with the modified valve, which they claim has a 'wait for it' stronger spring. They
  7. andytran Don't think you will have much luck pursuing Ford over Taxi fare etc. Regarding a hire car, I was informed by my local dealership, that if Ford can’t source a replacement part in 7 days they would provide a hire car. My 7 days is up tomorrow. We will see!!! Keep you posted. Maybe buying the car in Scotland was the problem – joke!!! taztddi My car failed once before and leaving it for a short time seemed to solve it. However it did fail again and, I and the local dealer were unable to get it going. Think your decision to take it to a dealer is the right one. Keep us poste
  8. Sorry for the Hammer bit. I really meant something like a tap in the appropriate place may release a stuck valve, if there was an approprite place. If a method of releasing a stuck valve was posted it would be a really usefull bit of information as many people have been stuck and even with the knowledge gained here as to the cause ie the EGR valve, there is little you can do. An earlier post indicated that disconnecting the battery enabled them to start upo and go. Has any one else tried this?
  9. 1955diesel Good luck with your new valve replacement. Keep us informed of any post operation issues. Pesmo This does seem to be the case. What bothers me so much about the C-Max TDCi EGR issue was how devastating the effect was. I required 2 recoveries in 1 week!!!! Does any one have any advice, apart from the switch on and off offered by Mastertech of how to free a stuck valve at the roadside. Hammer?????
  10. Spoke the local dealership today and they informed me that they are trying to source a part. They were aware of the modification and indicated that if they could source one (non modified) they would fit it, however the vehicle would have to go in again to have a modified one fitted. It appears I don’t qualify for a hire car until Monday (7 days after being reported to Ford) discussions with the dealer don’t count. Looks like another weekend without my car. I will keep you posted.
  11. Mastertech Thanks for the info. I noticed that after you switch off the engine several beebs are heard under the bonnet folled by a low click (bonnet has been up a lot recently). This could be the process you describe. I am still waiting for a reply from the dealership. You indicated that the parts were on back order, this seems to be the case. Regards
  12. 1955diesel Thanks for the info. I will be contacting my dealership today to enquire on progress. Replacement part, hire car etc. I will ask them!!!! Thanks
  13. Two things puzzle me!! Why would a faulty EGR valve cause such a devastating fault and render the car useless? Why as mentioned above would disconnecting the battery correct, at least temporarily the fault? I am a bit of a novice on all things TDCi and would appreciate any feedback.
  14. My 53 plate 2.0 TDCi CMAX did exactly the same thing last Saturday. On the Monday I had it towed (at my expense) to local Ford Dealer (Laidlaw Dundee) They reported air in the fuel system and purged the system on Wednesday. After this it started and after an overnight still started in the morning. I picked it up and it lasted 2 hours before doing exactly the same (would start but no response from the trottle). The dealer recovered the car this time and I have been informed it is the EGR Valve which is faulty. This dignosis is based on help from 'Ford Technical Support'! The part has bee
