  1. I've got a great reversing sensor on my C-Max....its called a towbar! ;)
  2. My own feeling is that they must be some sort of protection. As we know, the grill is there for air flow, but there has to be a balancing act. An enormous grill would lead to damage from stones etc. within the engine compartment. I conclude that the inserts offer some sort of protection. This would indicate that the shape of the grill was designed for aesthetic reasons and then the engineers came along and added additional protection OR at some stage in the development of the C-Max, the inserts were added after experience out in the field. You could well be right, I expected when I remov
  3. Cheers peeps, I've removed the inserts and TBH it hasnt really made a difference, seems slightly more "eager" but that could just be all in my head. Have seen several cars, both C-Max's and MK2 Foci with them and some without so I've no idea what they are for lol
  4. I havent, but hearing the stories about injector failures randomly occuring if I was gonna do it to my 1.6TDCi it would have to be Bluefin or nothing at all. Just my 2p.
  5. Panel filters can alter the induction noise as they change the flow of air slightly but I wouldnt expect a massive change. I changed the panel filter on my bike for a K&N one and its definately slightly more throaty but when I say slightly I do mean slightly lol
  6. Ok, cause I'm a sad git I have taken a pic and highlighted the bits I mean...
  7. Cheers Kevly, seen a few more and they all had the inserts in them so I'm puzzled lol I'll take a pic tomorrow of mine if it helps anyone....
  8. Its the 1.6TDCi on a 54plate. Have seen a couple of others out tonight and they have the inserts so I'm guessing the guy at works is the abnormal one lol
  9. Guy I work with has an identical C-Max to mine and we usually park next to each other, just been out to lunch and noticed that in the venting in the front bumper mine has a plastic insert covering up one of the holes in the front of the bumper but his doesnt. It seems that the intercooler is behind these strip of vents in the bumper but mine has a clip in plastic panel at either end of these slats effectively blocking off the end 2 vents. It doesnt appear that they are to restrict access to any mounting points so wonder what their purpose is?
  10. Anyone know how much they are and how easy to fit? Last time I did a set of wheel bearings it was simply remove wheel, remove hub centre, split pin out, bearing out, new one greased up and put in place, adjusted, split pin back in, hub centre back and wheel back on. Ta muchly.
  11. Pads and discs, plus fitting just cost me £146. I was gonna do it myself...but I couldnt be ar*ed to borrow some axel stands lol
  12. Cheers guys, well as predicted by me the groaning noise I heard wasnt the brakes. The garage have checked the bearings and they seem ok(not a Ford garage) so I have no idea whats causing it. the noise only occurs above about 50mph and is constant regardless of engine revs or wind etc. If you flick the car into neutral it can still be heard and "winds down" as the speed drops. I'm still airing towards wheel bearings...
  13. Anyone know what the min pad and disc thickness is? I've just picked the car up and to be honest they dont seem that bad...just wondering if I've been conned.
  14. Anyone know how long they "should" last? I dont mean how long they in reality do last but how long should rear discs last on a "normal" car? I noticed something a while back on here about C-Max's being very heavy on rear brake pads due to the bias but I dont remember where I read it. Mine has always had a slight squeal under braking from the rear but from what I have read etc I took it as yet another normal C-Max quirk. Noticed what sounded like a grumbly wheel bearing on Tuesday, got a garage near work to take a look and he couldnt find anything wrong with the bearings but apparently th
  15. Dashboard rattle......welcome to owning a C-Max :P Sorry mate cant be of any help :(
  16. Another update - Are you feeling sleepy yet? lol Just spoke to the service desk, the technician working on my car has had to leave early to do a course but apparently found a "mark" on the flywheel and has subsequently ordered in a new one. What they mean by a "mark" on the flywheel I dont know. Will know more tomorrow.
  17. Spoke to the Workshop Manager the weekend about this clutch issue and the whistling noise issue. He said it was gonna be hard to get the authorisation to go ahead and strip the clutch due to them not actually being able to diagnose the problem and the only way I have been able to illustrate it to them was by slipping the clutch. He was a decent guy, spoke to me on my level but is very poor at returning phone calls as I needed to get the insurance on the courtesy car extended. Just had a call from someone at Polar Ford to let me know they need it in for at least another night as it currently
  18. My Wireless Router knocks out my cordless bike computer. Same frequency? Possibly, wireless routers usually work on about 2.4Ghz which I know AV video senders also use, as does the XBox 360 wireless joypad reciever as well. I have a wireless router at home, as does my neighbour and my C-Max is fine and so was my Astra but most people have their Wireless routers set on the same channel, they all seem to come as a default set to one particular channel so as a rule I usually change them to a random channel when I set them up. Could be a buildup of people using wireless routers in a small a
  19. I used to have a Peugeot 406 51 plate and never had any issues when parked anwhere, then it got swapped(company car) for a 54reg Astra diesel and it used to be fine everywhere except near my parents house, about 70 percent of the time it wouldnt lock or unlock with the fob and I had the alarm issue through opening the car with the key. Only uniqueness about where my parents live is there is a railway track behind their garden, and I know there are several people in the street with wireless routers....no phone masts anywhere near their house though. Not much help but thought I'd comment.
  20. Just had a call from Ford, they can hear the clutch noise but cant find a fault as it passes all the diagnostics. They are saying that i shouldnt be slipping the clutch anyway which is a fair point but we all do sometimes and I'm not happy to leave that sound as it is. They said they have reattached the rear view mirror....again. They have fixed the passenger seat only after the manager spotted the fault and the diesel smell in the car they have allegedly fixed but they put it down to rotting leaves in the air ducts. I've got to pick the car up and see the overall manager a week on Satur
  21. Been and dropped it off tonight. When I got there all he workshop guys had gone home so the "Workshop Controller" reluctantly agreed to come with me to listen to the clutch noise, he definately heard it and was strangely mute and wouldnt comment... I mentioned this site off hand and he immediately took a defensive line and basically in not so many words "dont believe everything you read on there" then went on to say there are 4 lads that keep bringing their cars in repeatedly for things to be looked at blah blah blah. He also said "the worst one is that ST Owners Club" lol I just stood and
  22. I'll see what happens mate but I've got no reason to think the engineer was deaf blind or stupid, I just dont think he's looking for the fault in the right circumstances. My drive to work is about 12 miles and it doesnt start doing it until way past the half way mark so my guess is they warmed it up, took it for a quick spin and couldnt hear the noise. I've printed out a detailed sheet of hwo to replicate the fault(probably sounds patronising lol) in the hope they'll read it etc.
  23. Thats exactly what I wanted to do mate but the engineers werent available when i dropped it off last time and I'm dropping it off at half 5 today and I'm told they finish at 4. I just know its gonna come back as NFF on the clutch issue again though... :(
  24. I can see your point guys, I am an IT Technician and get no end of grief from customers complaining that they havent had updates on their faults. But I specifically asked if I could be called regarding one of the faults and if they had issues with the others then could they give me a call. They agreed and wrote it on the sheet but didnt bother. When I got a progress report it was because I needed my car back and hadnt heard a peep for 3 days from them. The guy sounded suprised when I said I hadnt had a call yet as he was expecting me to be there within minutes to collect it. As it turns
