  1. Froglet - have u had the software upgrade? It may help! If not, it does seem there is something fundamentally wrong with your car. I have to rag the a*se off mine to see the mpg figure drop below 35mpg, and I mean rag it!! The only time in normal driving it has ever gone that low is during very cold mornings when I have a very short trip into rush hour traffic. It soon goes up into the 40's once warmed up though. Andy
  2. Just to add to the above - before I got the CD41 upgrade, my fuel computer was anything from 2-5mpg out of the true value. I always work out my mpg manually at every fill up. Since the upgrade, Ive only had the chance to manually work out the mpg twice, and on both occassions, the computer was almost totally bang on with its value! I think what mastertech said earlier in the thread is correct - the biggest variable in mpg is style of driving. As I stated at the beginning of this post, my MPG using cruise over a long distance was amazing - the best Ive ever seen in 4000 miles since buying the
  3. Just to add to the mpg posts... You may be surprised at my findings after CD41! I just drove from High Wycombe to Alnwick, Northumberland. I wasnt in a rush, as I was travelling on works time, so I decided to set the cruise control at 70mph and sit around there for the next few hundred miles. Guess what, having covered about 300 miles at 70mph, my computer showed 57.1mpg  Whats even more amazing was that when I filled up in Alnwick, I did the old manual calculation (brim to brim) and my mpg worked out as ...... 57.3mpg!! I was well happy with this. Although Ive gotta say, after t
  4. ONSLOWE, Like the idea of the crosses on the side of the car for successful starts! Tally Ho!!! - Kinda apt for me as Im in the RAF!!!! Seriously, have you noticed any difference in the car since it was done? I definitely think mine is a bit smoother. Ive got a long drive from High Wycombe to Peterhead (north of aberdeen) via Newcastle to complete next week, so that will be a good test. Also, when I took the car for a spin on the M40 yesterday, I set the cruise at 75mph and reset the MPG computer. After 20 miles, was showing an average of 54mpg. Thats 10% better than normally, so thing
  5. Well, the car spent 2hrs this morning having the CD41 software installed, hopefully to cure my EGR problems. They also did the voltage set point recall at the same time. All credit to Perrys in High Wycombe. The service manager didnt think the software fix would make any difference, but agreed to try it due to my persistence. Thanks again to mastertech, they carried out his instruction to reset the EGR parameters and fingers crossed, all will be o.k. Initial feeling is that the car feels a little bit smoother when accelerating. Also, now, when I take the key out of the ignition, I can
  6. Cheers Mastertech! :D I will tell them its a broadcast!! andy
  7. And a little silver "X" on the hatch  Sorry, couldnt help it... Andy
  8. Ive just been speaking to my dealer and there is still no sign of a new model EGR. Thanks to Mastertech, I informed them that I knew of a possible software fix using CD41. They have agreed to try it, so Im going down there tomorrow. Im surprised they didnt know about the fix which Mastertech posted - it seems that the information distribution system Ford use may be somewhat lacking? Mastertech, Ive told them to load CD41 and that its important that they rest the EGR parameters. Anything else I need to tell them? Do you know if there is an OASIS number I could point them to? I will le
  9. Hi all, I still havent heard a word from my dealer ref the re-modelled EGR for my 2.0TDCi. Reading the comments in a previous post by Mastertech, where he is doing a software load and EGR re-calibration, Im surprised my dealer hasnt called me in to try it! I wish they would do something, as I am fed up running around with a faulty car! Andy
  10. Check this out.... £225 for the annual service on any new shape focus at Perrys in High Wycombe!!!! Ouch, I can feel my wallet stinging! Andy
  11. I had nankang NS2 tyres on my old sport and they were bloody good for the price! Im sure people will say they are a bit noiser, not so good in the wet etc, but I never drove my car at the limit and they were fine for everyday use. Good wear rate as well, had done 10k on them when I sold the car and they had a fair bit of tread left! Andy
  12. Mastertech, Please keep us informed as to how the reprogramming using cd41 works out! ID BE HAPPY IF THIS FIXED MINE! andy
  13. Its £225 at Perrys in High Wycombe for the first service on any new model Focus/C-Max  OUCHH!!!!!
  14. Mastertech, I presume you are replacing it with an old model EGR, or are the updated ones beginning to filter through? Andy
  15. Mine started going wrong after around 450 miles. 80% driving on motorways at around 65-80mph for around 150 miles at a time. Very little around town driving. Occassionally give the car a good "blowout" once the engine has warmed up, but otherwise drive sensibly. Always used shell fuel since car was new. Car has now done 3700 miles in 3 months, EGR has caused problems 7 times in that period, resulting in it ultimately failing to start last week. Got to admit, I dont think there is any definable pattern for this, the valves just go as and when they see fit! Andy
  16. Yes, thats exactly it! Just a couple of little taps with a blunt object seems to free the little blighter! Although, I have to admit, I havent tried it yet, as it was the man from the AA who showed me what to do a couple of days ago and I havent been in the car since then! No doubt it will stick on Friday when I drive to the airport, if so, I will try it then! Andy
  17. Mines an Oct 05 build and started playing up after 2 weeks!!! Cant be sticky goo, as my wife hasnt been near the car, let alone sat on the valve! Seriously, if this happened to me after less than 500 miles, it has to be down to bad design, not goo, as surely that much goo couldnt have built up in such a short time, especially considering that 80% of that mileage was done on the motorway! Andy
  18. JR9, Im happy to go with the scewdriver tip on mine until a new EGR is released. The fault doesnt occur with any measureable regularity so Im hoping it will be good to me until the new part arrives  1955 diesel - Is the new EGR an old part which has been fitted as an interim measure? Andy Oh, by the way guys - when mine went in yesterday to confirm my findings about the EGR, whilst it was plugged in to WDS, I asked them to carry out the PCM recall that is outstanding on my car. Guess what? They have paperwork from Ford saying not to do this on the 2.0tdci as it can cause the engi
  19. Ok, cheers all, looks like I will need to carry a Mk1 screwdriver around with me for a while then! Pickhacker, any idea on timeframes for the new part and ecu upgrade to hit the streets? Andy
  20. Just a quick update - AA managed to get the car going and I drove it to Perrys Ford in High Wycombe. After a bit of an argument with the old man on reception, I then spoke to the service manager who was much more knowledgeable and listened to my complaints. They retrieved the ECU code that showed the EGR was playing up and have agreed to order a new one. However, heres the problem - they let me see a bulletin from Ford which admitted that there were ongoing EGR problems and that the valve was being modified. However, Perrys said they couldnt order a new one until the modification of t
  21. Hi all, After another nightmare with my cars EGR sticking, the dealer has now confirmed that it needs a new EGR valve. However, he showed me a Ford print out which says that the EGR cannot be ordered due to the fact that it is undergoing modifications. Therefore they do not have a part number to order from. Ive read of a few people on here and the 2005 focus forum who say that they have had a new model EGR fitted. The question is - does anyone know the part number??????? If I could get the part number, I could get the dealer to order it! Thanks in advance Andy

  23. Yes, I tried it on mine twice when it wouldnt start on Friday - made no difference at all. I will fly back down to London tonight and when I eventually get back to the car (following 2 bus rides which due to a knackered car are now necessary) I will try it again and let you know how I get on. If it aint playing, I will get the RAC out to it on Monday and we will take it from there! Hopefully Perrys of High Wycombe will agree with my diagnosis that the EGR is kaput and order a replacement straight away. Anyone have any ideas as to my rights with regard to a totally un-necessary £40 taxi fare
