  1. Hi Pichacker, I picked up the car tonight and they had cleared the two PAT error codes but they claim that the the D900 is an initialisation code (no further info was forthcoming). I said I understood that it might be a CAN bus error but they then just countered with the comment that the self test was not for customers benefit. They then proceeded to try and charge me for connection to WDS. Eventually this was waived when I saw written on the recall work invoice (billable to FMC) that they had charged FMC to connect to WDS. The bill was still £25 more than they quoted me the day before -
  2. I took the car to my local Ford dealer today for its first service. I left a note asking for the DTC to be investigated and explained. About an hour later, 1st phone call from the service dept asking how I had obtained the codes. Using the self test routines built into the car I said, hold down reset, turn the key etc.... I assumed he was a new boy! About 3 hours later 2nd call. Our technician can't see the DTCs on the WDS. What is all this about self test built into the car. Would I mind popping in to show their technician how to do this?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How much should I expect knock
  3. Thanks for the info Ucsman. Yes the updates are free - just the service is £150. I did try and get them to pre-order parts but they insisted on seeing the car first. I did not buy the car from them and they don't know me at all so this is possibly a fair response. I doubt if they get the cost of stocking recall parts from Ford until they actually use them. Do you know what the issue is with the mirror? Thanks also for your previous info on the pollen filter location. I have tonight fitted a telltale cable tie between a part of the cable loom and the CFB so I can at least see if they
  4. I have three Diagnostic trouble codes indicated in the dash display. D900, 9600 and 9602. Please can anyone help me decode these or point me in the direction of further info. TIA Bob
  5. I've just booked my first service on a 54 plate 2.0TDCi GHIA Max having bought it just before Christmas with 10.7k miles and 14 months since first reg. It has had no entries at all in the service book about recalls. I asked the dealer to look up the VIN on OASIS and he said 4 recalls are relevant. Some I had heard about through this forum and others not hence posting this info. 1)Software upgrade to EPB 2)Software up grade to charging voltage set point (Is this the new recall for flat batteries in low temps or an old one?) 3) Rear wash-wipe - we all know about this one and 4)Possible repl
  6. My TomTom Go Classic works OK in my C-max with a heated screen. hth Bob
  7. Thanks CFC, Looks like the oil change will be simple. I'm trying to decide if it is worth the £177 that my local agent wants to charge for the first service. I intend to keep the car for a long time and so simply collecting dealer stamps in the service book is of little interest. The car is 15 months old (10.7k miles) I'm unsure if I'm jeopardising the balance of the warranty by not getting dealer servicing or if I just take my chances and do my own work? It sounds like you are doing your own oil changes so have you been through this decision process? Regards Bob
  8. Thanks for the replies guys. CFC, The filter canister is quite high up on the engine relative to the sump. Is is safe to assume that the filter can be opened without draining the sump? Does the filter canister drain back into the sump when the engine is off? My thinking is that it may be a lot cleaner to change the filter once oil has drained back to the sump. TIA Bob
  9. Hi, I've just got a second hand Cmax 2000 tdci and I'm trying to find my way around it. This may sound a dumb question but where is the oil filter? There is something that maybe it located at the front of the engine just to the right of the fuel filter. It looks like it is made of plastic with a moulded in hexagonal 'nut' on the top and a torque figure written on it. It is not like any oil filter I've seen before but ..... Whilst talking oil matters, The Ford handbook seems to quote the same oil for both petrol and diesel engines. Is this normal? I had always thought that diesels needed di
  10. Has anyone played with attaching a laptop or scanner to the OBD-2 diagnostic port on their C-max and want share experiences?? TIA Bob
  11. Hi All, Thanks for the replies. It turns out that the dealer was advertising the car with a wrong description. Despite taking to them on the phone they were still telling me the car had certain features when it turns out it did not. I wasted today driving from Southampton down to Exeter and back only to find the dealer was telling lies and misdescribing the car details on the website. If anyone is thinking of doing business with Exeter Diesels. I would check, re-check and look even deeper into anything they say. Bob
  12. I've discovered a used 2000 tdci C-max for sale that seems a bit strange. It is a 54 plate first reg Sept 04 and claims to be a ghia but it does not have EPB. According to my Ford brochure this is a standard feature on a ghia. It is also thought to be a Euro stage 4 emission level but I thought is is not new enough for this. My local Ford agent is also suprised that a diesel particulate filter is fitted. The vehicle is a long way from where i live so I'm trying to understand what might be going on remotely. I'm in the process of trying to get the VIN to ask Ford if they can shed some more
  13. I don't know about the TTG700 but I have had a TTG classic for nearly a year and have been very pleased with it. I don't have a Cmax (yet!) but have tried it in one on a test drive and it works fine even with a heated front screen. Bob
  14. After a very poor response trying to get test drives through local Ford dealers, at last one will be delivering a 2.0tdci Ghia 05 plate demonstrator tomorrow and I get to keep it until next Tuesday morning. I'll be doing a couple of long runs (200 mile round trips) but given this opportunity of having it far longer than I expected, I've been trying to think of what sort of tests to put it through. Any suggestions? Bob
  15. I read in the motoring section of last saturdays Telegraph that changing the headlight bulbs was a Dealer job. Can this be true? anyone know why please? I'm on the verge of buying a CMax but news like this, if it is true, make me question the design. TIA Bob
  16. Oil in diesels does turn black very soon after a change. Not a cause for concern. Bob
  17. Hi JonJen, Thanks for your reply. I am erring towards the 2000cc based on my application and comments from this forum see http://www.ffoc.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=75645. I've not driven any Cmax yet. My local Ford Dealer seemed pretty disinterested in a test drive a couple of months ago. True I had my hand in plaster at the time but he did not offer a test drive later on and tried to entice me towards a Ford Direct and then could only find one that was available. I was underwhelmed. I went to another dealer to show my wife what a Cmax was and walked into the showroom, sat inside a Cmax, l
  18. Anyone done this recently? I'm after 05/54plate 2.0TDCi Zetec or Ghia. There seem to be lots of 1600 TDCi s at auction (BCA) but not too many 2.0. I usually buy nearly new motors at auction but it is 10 years since my last purchase so I'm a bit out of touch with the market The other possibility is Ford Direct but the local prices (Southampton) are a bit high although the very same cars from Derby or Glasgow dealers are much cheaper. I wonder if the nearby car supermarkets ( Motorpoint) have something to do with this? Anyone got opinions about Ford Direct? TIA Bob
  19. Hi Eric, I'm not able to conduct tests for you as I'm still a prospective Cmax owner in the throws of deciding which model to buy. My local ford dealer does not have any CMaxes in stock and seems reluctant to get one in for me just for a test drive. Needless to say I shall not be bothering him with my business in future ! How do these people stay in business?! Hopefully 1.6CMaxGhia will be able to help you with comparative data. Regards Bob
  20. In your experiments, did you operate the EPB manually at all? I've been reading back through the thread and the first three posts suggest that operating the lever/switch whatever is one way to release the EPB. This is how I think I'd want to use such a thing. I think the EPB is going to be an essential part of the test drive when I come to decision day for my Cmax model. My wife has weak wrists caused by arthritis and the EPB sounded ideal in the begining but if she has to 'learn how to use it, it might put her off driving as was Mrs 1.6CMaxGhia mentioned earlier in the thread. Rs Bob
  21. Eric, I've not got a car with an EPB but may well buy a Cmax soon that does have one. I've been trying to think of driving manoevers requiring the handbrake to be released and yet not involving touching the brake or using the clutch without success. If you point is objection to 'fully' depressing the clutch, could not the clutch pedal sensor position be adjusted? Regards Bob
  22. OK a bit of thread Hi-jack, but does anyone know how these parking brakes work? Does it just lock the transmission just like on an automatic? or does it effectively pull the handbrake cable by electrical means? BTW I'm a propective Cmax owner so I can't just go and have a look! TIA Bob
  23. Thanks for all your replies. I'm erring towards the 2000 but will arrange for a test drive of both once I've got back from holiday touring in France in my trusty Pug 405 1.8i petrol. Maybe next time I go it will be in a Cmax! Looking at what is available at auction which is how I have bought my last 3 cars,I see there and many more 1600 tdci than 2000 which might indicate a greater turnover in the smaller engine version. Bob
  24. I'm looking to buy a Cmax diesel and wondering which engine size to get. I estimate half of my driving will be short runs in rural areas of Hampshire UK where I won't need much performance. The other half will be touring holidays in Europe with one passenger, our luggage and maybe 150 kg of wine/beer etc when I'll need the ability to overtake with relative ease and avoiding a 'white knuckle ride' as to when I can get past the car in front. So what do you think 1600 cc or 2000 cc? Thanks in advance Bob :? :?:
