  1. :evil: once again my 2ltr TDCi (04 build) has shown the mill lamp-died-flashed up limited EPB function and this time wouldnt start again for 5 mins ! all on a nasty bend in N/Devon with my caravan on the back - so embarrasing (lost count how many times this has happened 20 + !!) Does any one have these problems other than me - car has had crank sensor changed twice and the obvious EGRV - but Im beginning to wonder if fault codes really mean anything to Ford these days ! Help Osgod Clappa

Hi Doc - I also have always had a strange 'rough patch' at around 1800 rpm - mines more noticable when I use cruise control for some reason - it puts me in mind of years ago when running up aero engines (models) you could get them to 4 stroke by richening up the mixture - Ive put on 40K + now in two and a half years and apart from the usual egr problem still enjoy blowing the doors off quite quick motors esp. up hills ! :wink:

Seems that rears wear faster than fronts on the Max - mine were shot at 20000 - but I didnt have chance to compare them to the fronts as the fronts were changed with new discs at the same time (warranty) - but looking at the pad dust front to rear the rears seem to work a lot harder ! - I have EHB dont know if that alters the equation at all - Cheers Osgod

  5. Any one know if there is a plug and play towbar electrics kit available for CMax - seems silly to hardwire and solder everything as I had to do with my set up - but got nowhere trying to source a kit when I needed one and I know there is one available for previous car (Zafira)
  6. :) Have been driving for 40+ years / towing caravans for 25 and my CMax is the only car I have owned that makes a horrible smell when reversing - bit difficult driving into a space with van on back because you cant get out again so reversing is a must when towing - composition must obviously have changed causing this problem - still we have a pair of cloths pegs we keep handy when siting our van - small price to pay for such a super tow car - Ghia 2ltr TDCi - ps . pride myself on never having worn a clutch out !! Chris :lol:
  7. Ho Hum :o seems my crankshaft positioning sensor was defective - out for a cruise tonight and saw 70 mpg @ 70 mph ! ( for 20 odd miles ) and engine so refined now - can this be real !!! can anyone enlighten me as to what said sensor does ?
  8. :cry: well - had my EGR valve fix some few weeks ago - seemed OK apart from occasional kick every few days with mill lamp flash but I thought Id give it a fair crack of the wip and see what happened - engine died again just when overtaking a lorry at busy intersection - its sooo embarrasing carving across lanes like a loony to reach safety - warning amber light bottom left of speedo this time with "limited EPB! function" message this time - reading the hand book this could denote a power supply problem ? but to shut down the engine just like that seems stupid , surely a limp mode would be more
  9. :D Car went in last Wednesday (Vospers EXETER) and they were VERY thorough - kept car overnight as an unstocked part was needed - all items I listed were addressed - new EGR, boot switch, discs and pads, new rear anti roll bar bushes ! 20K!, various updates, - I think Im in love again :oops: it feels even faster now from what I remember pre. having work done, unless thats the changeover from the cooking Fester I had as courtesy car :lol: but all in all very satisfied with treatment from main dealer
  10. :( Hi Peter - if the orange engine symbol on the speedo itself (right hand side) flashes on - this could be what I descibed as kick - which happened several times to me just before I lost my engine last week - am booked in at local dealer for next week so will keep you all informed as to outcome
  11. :shock: Well I suppose it had to happen !! tooling down the middle lane on M5 ( 04 2.0TDCi CMax) passing convoy of HGVs with me little trailer on the back when - nothing !! no power - mill lamp - EGR fault flaged up - sooo lucky to be doing a fat 60 and going down hill - nice HGV driver reacted very politely and allowed me to slot in and on to hard shoulder but shudder to think of consequences if on level or uphill !! have put on 19K+ in just over a year and was really pleased with engine it regularly returns 40 - 50 mpg and after we towed our 4 berth caravan up to the ski car park at Llandu
