  1. So far as I know my car was euro4 compliant when I bought it in April 2004( 2.0 TDCI ). Cheers.
  2. Ok, so an update needed here. The problem is that the slow running is not working properly between tickover and around 1500 rpm. Above this figure it works fine( apart from only doing around 40 mpg ), very smoothe and also powerful. I do a lot of in traffic driving between towns on South Coast and sit at lights a lot, so this is a real pain in the bum and it does it both hot and cold. Ford's troubleshooter for the South has told my garage not to bother with my car anymore ,as there is nothing more they can do as its not showing up on the sensors. My garage are with me on this, but there is l
  3. I have a 2.00 TDCI which has still got a low speed misfire despite Ford's best efforts to cure it over the last 8 months. Would a session on a rolling road throw-up what was causing it and/or would a re-map cure it ? Cheers. BB
  4. Hi Simon, Approx 25 mile round trip each day to work, with 12 miles of dual cariageway and the rest heavy traffic in town. Occasional trips of 90 miles, all on A roads and the odd 200 mile trip on motorway still only returning 38 overall or approx 8/9 miles per litre brim-to-brim ( not using the trip meter which is unreliable ) . I use my trip meter on metric which, on a long run drops to 6.4 litres/100 km( 44mpg), but it is actually doing 38/39 mpg. Cheers Ian
  5. Thanks Guys. You could be right. Problem is I don't get to drive it long distance as its always in the garage. It's a superb car and just right for us. I had even thought of having it'chipped' and tuned for economy with the Jetex cotton filter that I have spare to improve the smooteness/driveability. I am rather reluctant due to the constant technical problems which seem to plague it ,without inflicting more power etc on it. Anyone tried tuning a 2.0 TDCI ? Cheers. BB
  6. The garage tell me that my car, according to their computer has had all the updates done( especially the'sticky' ones elsewhere on this site). However it is still only doing 38 mpg full to empty, instead of late 40's as it should be, so I am wondering if the updates have actually been done ! Will get them to check what it says on the car to prove it one way or the other. Should get the lift pump and fuel regulator early next week, which may cure the problem, or not ! Cheers. BB
  7. There is , apparently, a new version of the 2.0 TDCI engine out which could be known as DW 10. Anyone know about this ? Mine is an 04 reg ( 04/04 ) 2.0 TDCI still with terrible fuel consumption ( 38 0verall ) but its been in the local garage for 4 weeks now with air in the fuel problem. Waiting for new lift pump and fuel regulator, which may mean completely new fuel lines all-round if this does not fix it. Ford Customer Services trying to get it all fixed as car has been off road for nearly 4 months out of 10 since new. Still love the car, though 1 Cheers. BB
  8. Hi Tim, I seem to be having ' new model' problems at the moment which seems to afflict most manufacturers. I had a 205 GTI( only the 3rd one in the Country ) which spent 60 % of its time in the workshop as the dealer and manufacturer were playing the usual game of not knowing what the faults were or how to fix them. I stuck with that one too and after a couple of years it got fixed a treat. Will keep the C-Max for the time being, however if this latest problem is not fixed by Ford in the form of a new engine then I will trade it in for a Seat or VW. Cheers. BB
  9. Hi, I agree that Ford spent 4 years developing the C-Max and still brought it out virtually untested. I am now on my second since Janary, the first one having had a terminal ABS problem which meant it never left the PDI workshop where it failed its PDI test and was returned to Ford Germany by the dealer. My second one now has terminal engine damage to one of the cylinders, caused by 2 faulty injectors which have made the pistons overhead and appear to have destryed one cylinder. Compression test shows a loss of 100 psi in this one cylinder which is causing it to misfire at low revs. Its a l
  10. Took the car back to the local dealer again the week before last as the misfire is now back with a vengeance( but still only at low revs when hot ). Leak test of injectors has not shown any problems but Ford Technical ordered a compression test which showed no 1 @ 28 bar( approx 406 psi ) and the rest between 34 and 35 bar( approx 493- 507 psi ), or approx 100 psi down on the other cylinders. According to a relation of mine who is a test engineer for a company that does a lot of work for Ford, the injectors leaking will result in localised overheating of the piston crowns. The net result will
  11. Took my Jetex fiter out, which is a panel filter by the way, and it did not make any difference. Took it to the dealer two weeks ago and they could not find anything wrong with it. However I got the workshop manager to come out for a run and when the engine warmed-up the misfiring began, much to my satisfaction and to his. Ford Technical suggested he do a leak test which proved that two of the injectors were leaking fuel on the closed cycle, thereby causing a misfire. The ones fitted were no 4's, and these were changed to no 5's which took 2 weeks to obtain and I got the car back yesterday. A
  12. Just got my 2.0 TDCI back after 2 weeks waiting for new injectors after only 8,000 miles from new ! Apparently the ones fitted to my car were no 4's and two of these were found to be faulty( leaking fuel during the closed cycle ) causing a misfire but only on tickover when hot ?? Car only doing around 38 or less at the time, overall. Now fitted with no 5's injectors and only got it back last evening, so no time to check it out. Dealer does not know if the two were always faulty, or became faulty. So it could be that the 5th upgrade of injectors make the car more economical, in which case ever
  13. Hi Chris, Yes it is the box you marked with a red dot for which you will need a Torx screwdriver( a 15 I think) to undo the screws. If you want to change the air filter then you will need to be careful as the panel filter, as standard, is deeper than you are are able at first to make the opening ! However, with care, you can make it just wide enough to get the filter out. Once out you will see a dirty round patch of soot/dirt in the middle of it, but towards the otherside away from you. I advise to change it around so the clean bit is at the back before you put it back.On mine the Jetex repl
  14. Hi Chris. The air box is on rhs as you look at it from the front bumper. Its rectangular and has 6 torx screws holding the lid on. The pipe in and out goes east-west and I think the air intake is facing the radiator grill, but I could be wrong. I believe that to get serious power out of a diesel the air needs to be super cool especially at the intercooler. Allardturbosport.co.uk do a watercooled intercooler of standard size and also of super-size. Not sure if their's fits Fords, but this can make a lot of difference to the power delivery according to them especially if its positioned correct
  15. Ok, so its the latest ECU upgrade as far as I am aware and I have the Jetex filter still in place for a 150 mile run tomorrow. Will check consumption over this next week and compare. Will try it with the standard filter for the next tank of fuel and compare again. Thanks for the advice about tuning. Cheers. BB
