  1. I wish I could answer that! I just had a £40 taxi bill so that I could get to the airport. Yes youve guessed it, the egr seems to be frozen solid on my 2.0tdci ghia focus and despite around 25 attempts to start it, it aint playing. Bloody car - this should not happen on a £17000 motor!!! ARRRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!! :x Andy
  2. Hi jc1978, What was the loom and relay which were fitted? Andy
  3. Hi all, Well, Im at the end of my tether with my 2.0 tdci ghia. Despite going in for EGR problems, its still playing up, resulting in last night me having to pay £40 for a taxi from Wycombe to Heathrow in order to catch a plane home. The car has always played up with "no revs" problems, but eventually sorted itself out. However, yesterday, it would not start, just kept on catching and running rough for a second before dying. Tried disconnecting the battery a couple of times, but nothing worked. I didnt have time to call the RAC as I needed to get to the airport. So my car is sat out
  4. I changed mine in my ghia from the 6006 single cd to the sony 6 cd. It worked fine without going near the WDS. The only issue was that when powered on, it displayed something like "not registered" for about 2 seconds, then operated normally. I did actually get it sorted for free by my local garage, who did register it on WDS. Anyway, just stating that it will work without WDS programming, just get the quick 2 second msg everytime you turn it on and off!! Andy
  5. EGR valves are made in hell..... Sorry, as a 2.0tdci owner I couldnt resist. Andy
  6. Yes mate, there is. Its set by the computer display using the indicator stalk. Obviously, the car needs to be standing still when you do this. I seem to remember that its under the "settings" function. Andy
  7. The car started what you decribed exactly around 20,000 miles high milage for a 54 plate I had ford take a look and they diagnosed it staright away but had to await the EGR valve replacement after it was fixed it seemed a lot smoother generaly but fuel seemed to be used more maybe ? anyway it was good for the 2 weeks I kept the car then traded it in for a petrol but once fixed that should be it ................. Hmm...this is what Im not confident about........
  8. How long ago since it was changed roscoe? How many miles since? My car didnt start playing up regularly till it had done 2000 miles, so if I get a new EGR, will I have this again in 2000 miles? Andy
  9. This is all total cr*p. There is obviously a serious problem with EGRs on the 2.0tdci and its about time that Ford either re-engineered the valve and did a recall, or at the very least, they should replace the valve as soon as owners report a single fault which is attributable to it. Mine has given me several problems, but the dealer is too dumb to listen to my comments and wont replace it. Next time it happens, Im gonna have to get mad..... Andy
  10. jc1978, any chance of a bit more detail as to where this plug is located? Dont want to appear cheeky, but a photo would be ace. Otherwise, I will try to photograph my engine and email it to you for you to maybe give me some idea? Thanks mate Andy
  11. This is a nightmare! Guess I will have to insist on a new EGR valve, but considering that this is a brand new car which has now done 3000 miles with the EGR thing happening 6 or 7 times, Im not hopeful that it wont happen again. The only way I think this may fix the problem is if my EGR is faulty. However, judging by the amount of people who are on their 3rd or 4th EGR, Im not holding my breath! Andy
  12. Hi pslaney, Its definitely an EGR problem, as when I took it into Ford, they put it on wds and said that there was an EGR FROZEN fault recorded. It has happened several times now - the EGR seems to stick and then free itself after a minute or two. Therefore, I would like to just disconnect the damn thing! Oh, by the way, symptoms are - engine starts fine, but no revs. Sounds like its running on 2 cylinders. Stop and restart a few times, keep trying to rev it, then a puff of black smoke appears and all is well again :? Andy Andy
  13. Anyone know if its possible to disconnect this problematic Valve on the 2.oTDCi. If it is, how is it done? Ive had occassional problems with mine putting the car into limp home mode. It has eventually cleared its self after a few minutes, but despite putting the car into Ford, the problem is still there. Its really hacking me off that my 17000 pounds car is not reliable. Looking at the forums, it seems that disconnecting this valve solves peoples problems, but that was on the 1.8tdci, anyone done it, or know how its done on the 2.0tdci?? Thanks Andy
  14. Its to do with the amount of voltage which the alternator sends to the battery when charging. Apparently some cars dont send enough power, resulting in flat batterys. Funnily, I took mine in for this recall a couple of weeks ago, but my garage didnt do it as they said they had seen something from Ford saying not to do it on the 2.0 TDCi ???? Andy
  15. Dont hold your breath mate....when I put mine in for exactly the same problem, they said the ECU was showing an "EGR Frozen" fault. They simply wiped the fault off the ECU and gave me the car back  That was around 2 weeks ago and the fault hasnt re-occurred, luckily. Ive got to drive Peterhead to London on Tuesday, some 600 miles - and believe it or not, Im worried my 3 month old £17,000 car might not make it! At least one thing is clear in my mind - if this fault continues to re-occur, the car will be going. Im very annoyed that I didnt realise the problems associated with this F
  16. I agree, when I wash mine, the engine sounds sh*te for a few minutes, as if something like a drive belt is wet, then it goes away. Also, Ive had exactly the same problems with no revs from the engine- It was in cold weather also, in fact, it took 5 re-starts and a 5 minute drive before it cleared up. I wouldnt mind, but the car had been out on a long drive beforehand so the engine was still hot. And furthermore, my mpg has dropped off. Its ridiculous. If I sit at 60mph I can get 55mpg. If I sit at 75-80mph, Im lucky to get 40mpg. Thats one hell of a discrepancy. I recently drove glasgow to l
  17. Around £125 at my local garage - too darn much if you ask me  , its only an oil change after all!!
  18. I agree - Ive got the new focus ghia and its exactly the same. Its a real pain trying to feel around in the dark....trying to find which knob to press  Andy
  19. Hi all, just got the car back from the dealer. It appears that the ECU showed an error. - The EGR had frozen! Anyway, they cleared down the error and are seeking further advice from Ford, as they are a bit unsure as to why it happened. They offered to keep the car for a few days to try and see if they could replicate the fault, but, after looking at these forums and other drivers EGR problems, Ive decided to keep the car myself, with the assurance that they will look at it with priority if it happens again. Also, with regard to the recall, just spoke to the head technician who says the "
  20. Cheers Paul! I do a lot of motorway driving, so I hope this doesnt cause me too many problems. The car is at the dealers as we speak, hopefully they will get an error message from the ECU, as at least when this happened the first time, there was a message on the display. Although there were no messages the next times it happened :? They are doing the PCM recall today so maybe thats linked to it?? I will keep you informed as too how I get on! Thanks for the responses, Andy Also, JC1978, the PCM recall was outstanding when I collected the car in October. They didnt have the right disk to sor
  21. Cheers Kevin, jc1978, Ive been on the forums for several years now. I followed Gasmans problems (poor guy) and hopefully, Im not having quite the same issues!! Jc1978, I hope my car just had a bad day, as yours appearred to have, and that it wont happen again. How long ago was it when it happened to you? Ive got the car booked in anyway for a recall on the "PCM" which requires it to be hooked up to WDS, so they will have a look for faults whilst its hooked up. The PCM is, I believe, the Power Control Module, so if this has a potential problem, maybe the no revving issue is a symptom of thi
  22. ( Oct 05 Focus 2.0TDCi Ghia ). I think Im now on the path to 2.0tdci problems... I was out around town in the car today, stopped to get a paper then, when I restarted, car was running very rough, no revs at the throttle and "engine systems problem" appeared on the dash. I turned the car off, left it a minute, restarted and all was ok. An hour or so later, car was fine, popped into B+Q, came out car started and ran rough, wouldnt rev, no error indications on dash. Turned off the engine, left it a minute, re-started and still no revs. Tried again 3 times, still the same- running rough, no
  23. I think you will have to wait a while mate! Even on the more popular models, it usually takes around 3 years before Haynes are ready to publish! Bear in mind that they have to source a car and then strip it down, photograph and write up everything, etc, etc. Then they have to amend items for petrol / diesel etc, etc. These things take a while, try again in 2007/8 Andy!!
  24. Cheers mate, it has broken in half, with one half shattered into bits. Think it might have to go into the dealers for their even bigger hammer! Andy
