  1. Hi, Not sure what happened this morning, while changing from 1st to 2nd on a roundabout I heard an almighty CLUNK as if the car was hit by a large hammer. Car was fine to drive though and was wondering what the sound could have been. Maybe I let the clutch up too fast. I might give the impression I overly worry about the car knackering on me - my last diesel (mk3 golf tdi) gave me no end of trouble and was always breaking down - I only owed it 3 months and it was in a garage for 2 months. Bish
  2. I did stop further down the road and check the wheels too. I just took the car for a spin this lunchtime and no problems, pulled away fine - gentle surge at 1800rpm. No diesel smell either, although I do get a sort of stale air smell when I turn on the blower motor. My car gets a service in another 500 miles so I suppose the cabin air filter is changed then?
  3. Hi, Had a bit of a fright this morning on my way to work. I pulled onto a fast A road and could smell diesel all of a sudden - didn't know where it was coming from. A mile later I approached a roundabout and the car really struggled to pull away as if either the clutch was slipping or I was skidding on ice. Anyway after that the car was fine - it pulled well and there was no more diesel smell. After thinking about it the smell only appeared when I was right behind a Renault Scenic - the Scenic was in front of me at the roundabout too, but after that he went a different way. Could it be
  4. I don't know much about the workings of the cmax as I've only had mine a few weeks. I also have a rattle inside my dash just near the dash-mounted cubby hole/storage tray. Can't see how to get to it - it only rattles at motorway speeds tho.
  5. The EGR valve failures mainly occured on the 1.6 and 2.0 tdci engines too.
  6. I just got back from Cheltenham and my 1.8 tdci managed an average of 59 mpg. On the outbound journey to Cheltenham on Friday the trip computer gave an average of 62mpg. I never went above 70mph though.
  7. Hi, My 06 plate C-max is coming up for it's 25k service. I've read horror stories of flywheels and EGR valves, etc and was wondering if this was the same car since mine has been fine. Admittedly I've only had the car a month and as far as I can tell the previous owner didn't have any problems. Is there anything I should ask the dealer specifically when I take it for it's service? Were most of the problems ironed out by the time 06 plate cars were sold? I have the 1.8 tdci and I've heard these are possibly better built than the 1.6 and 2.0 PSA engines. Cheers Dave
  8. I'm sure you could buy a 2005 cmax diesel for 8k. Mine was an 06 plate and cost only 7k after p/x. The forecourt price for mine was £8600. I have the old skool 1.8 tdci but I'm sure you could find a 1.6 tdci for your price range. It would be more fuel efficient too. As for petrol I suppose the 1.6 would give the best economy and would give 40-42 mpg on the combined cycle. Road tax would be £140-£165 a year Cheers Dave
