  1. You got 45-47, damn, I wish I'd bought your car :D We are only getting around 35mpg, which is where this post started :D I do think the C-MAX is a good car, and it certainly drives well. However, it's just lost on me how some people are getting in the high 40's, and others are lucky to manage 35mpg. If only Ford would address these issues, as otherwise, I couldn't fault the car. Yes, I would have another C-Max if I could be sure that I wouldn't end up with another one that had MPG issues that Ford won't take seriously. Froglet (aka Kevin)
  2. OK JonJen, I can take it, but be gentle with me OK? :D
  3. Sorry guys, I certainly wasn't suggesting that it was OK for anyone to go over the 12.5k mark  My main point really was that if our dealer had serviced the car at 10,000 miles when we bought it, I'd have it serviced after the next 12.5k. If this is not correct, it certainly hasn't ever been brought to my attention by any of the dealers we have used. Still, I will be more vigilant. Wouldn't want a dealer or FMC to duck out of work which was needed under the warranty because I hadn't done it correctly :D Froglet (aka Kevin)
  4. I was under the impression the trip computer calculates an average over a given distance rather than real time, so it can't be showing me what we will get under the present driving conditions. Unless of course I am missing the point :D I'd much rather we were getting the 41mpg the trip computer claims, rather than the 34mpg we are actually getting. Hence I was left with the impression that the trip computer is simply wrong, and not to be trusted. Froglet (aka Kevin)
  5. I have NEVER had a car serviced according to the date it was registered. Since the dealer has always serviced our cars at the time of purchase, we follow the 12 month since LAST service or after 12.5k, whichever comes first. In our case though, it's always the 12.5k which comes first Have NEVER had a dealer even suggest that we 'might invalidate' our warranty, even when the 12.5k service has been, shall we say, slightly over the 12.5k :D I also think they are talking b@ll@cks. But then again, dealers are not my favourite people right now, so maybe I'm not looking at this very objectively
  6. Thanks CM, but it's not the locations of Ford dealers I am looking for, but a recommendation :D Hoping someone in the Northamptonshire area has had good experiences with their dealer, and can let me know which one
  7. Thanks, but I wasn't suggesting that you do that for me :D Still, if I'm ever in your neck of the woods :D
  8. Hi Mastertech My dealer told us after the service on Tuesday that as far as they are concerned, our car has had all the updates available. So I guess the answer is yes, assuming the dealer is fully aware of whatever upgrades are available
  9. Our 2.0TDCi is getting around 34mpg. This is with no major load, on open road, where we can drive at around 70. Revs are kept no more than about 2000rmp. I agree about not trusting the trip computer, but that doesn't mean you will get better results. Our trip computer claims we are getting 41mpg, so it is over estimating by as much as 6mpg. That is a huge amount to over estimate IMHO. Of course we will never achieve the stated figures, but surely it must be possible to get around 50mpg. 34mpg is not far short of half of what Ford quote, which surely is not right. Also, my previous cars hav
  10. Thanks Red, I am intending to call FMC, and will make it clear how I feel about the way the dealer dealt with the situation. I'm still looking for any suggestions in Northamptonshire though :D
  11. Servicing should be every 12,500 miles or 1 year, whichever is sooner
  12. I asked for a full report or some kind of written documentation, but they said there was none, other than what they'd already given me, which didn't include anything about the front heated windscreen or the MPG issue. That's the point at which they gave me a card with FMC customer service details on and said 'call them if your not happy' I most certainly will be. But really, it's so annoying, especially as up until this, the dealer has been very good in the past. I would prefer to book the car in to another dealer for an alternative opinion, so if anyone can recomend a dealer in the Nort
  13. Ours just had it's 2nd service (25,000 miles) The work was done at Winslow Ford in Rushden and we were charged as follows: Labour £49ph - 1.5hr = £73.50 Engine Oil = £24.75 Element Oil = £9.71 Filter = £13.01 Gasket = £0.29 ??? Not sure what this is Glas cleaner = £1.10 I didn't actually ask for any, but they did give us whatever was left in the bottle Environmental charge £3.50 Total = £125.86 VAT = £22.03 Final total = £147.89 Not sure what the first service would have cost, as we bought the car at 15,000 miles, and it had already been done.
  14. Our trip computer usually states around the 400 MTG mark when we fill up. As my mileage count is suggesting that we are actually getting around 375, it isn't too far out. However, the trip computer also states that we are getting 41mpg, when my tests show we are actually getting an average of 34mpg on a full tank, so the trip computer is over estimating by around 6mpg. Our driving is done probably 90% on open road where it is fairly easy to maintain 70mph, and only stops here and there for the odd traffic circle. We rarely drive in town, and rarely get stuck in traffic. It's also clear in
  15. Summertime is definitely the best time to watch the ladies climbing in and out of their cars
  16. Hi all Thanks for the replies so far I will try to clear up a few points here, so bear with me :D Some of the work was carried out, after all the car was there for it's 25000 mile service. They did this, and of course charged accordingly. But even then, they missed some obvious stuff. In the service schedule, they have ticket that the seatbelts have been checked for condition and operation. However, 2 of our rear seatbelts have been completely destroyed by our 2 dogs. This was not brought to our attention, so clearly they did not check the seatbelts for condition and operation. (I am g
  17. Hi all My partner took the Max in for it's 25000 mile service. We have had it since 15000. While she was there, she was explaining the things she wanted them to check, such as the xenon headlight level, the heated front window, which doesn't appear to work at all, and of course, the dreadful fuel economy issue, which they have already tried to fix previously with software updates. Well, once she brought up the fuel econony, his eyes rolled, and he started going into the usual stuff on 'it must be your driving style' etc. Even told her she was 'expecting to much' from the car. Our trip
  18. Hi Nick Funny, the dealer seemed 'sure' it was a recall, and suggested that 'when we get the notification in the post' we need to bring it in to have it marked that the work had been done already :? Oh well, no problem. Froglet
  19. Does anybody know what the software upgrade does, apart from the voltage setpoint of course :D Does it work any other minor miracles, like improve the MPG for instance? Ours has been doing about 42mpg. Mostly on open road, and without 'heavy' driving. Dealer had already updated ECU, before it was about 38mpg, so it did improve a bit. Has anyone noted any further improvements with this update? Or does this update only correct the voltage issue? And while I'm at it, can anyone definitely confirm that it really DOES correct the voltage issue? Thanks again Froglet
  20. Well that's out the window then. I'm a computer geek, not an electrician :D Is re-wiring really the only way? Froglet
  21. ...change the setting for the cigi lighter (sorry, auxilary power socket) so that it is not powered all the time. Just so I'm clear on this, I only want the thing to work when the key is in the ignition and set to position II, like the radio and fan. Is this an easy thing to do, or does it need re-wiring? Cheers Froglet (AKA Kevin)
  22. Hi all Been hit by the voltage setpoint issue the last few days. First symptoms were both the clock and the trip computer resetting themselves when starting the engine, which was a noticable sluggish turnover. Yesterday, wife went to start her up, and nothing. Just a lovely clicking sound as the instrument cluster kept resetting itself constantly. Only cure if you get to this point is a jump start. Had it at the dealer this AM to have software patch, service pack or whatever applied. So far, no problems since. (god I hope the software wasn't programed by Microslob) :D Dealer says thi
  23. Cheers Nick, I had a feeling that was probably it (duh!) :D Froglet
  24. Hi Nick Took a look at your diagram. I haven't really had time today to take a look, but I don't remember it looking like that. Is there something I need to remove first, or should the lever just be visible? Cheers Froglet
