  3. You're absolutely spot on there, martinrqs. Don't get me wrong, I think this engine together with a 6-speed gearbox, makes a fabulous driver's car when fitted in a Cmax. However 'economical driving' is made difficult partly due to the way Ford have chosen to map the throttle pedal movement to engine throttle demand, which favours 'spirited' driving and maximising the 'Wow - doesn't she go!' factor, rather than economy. If Ford were to re-map this a little it would help i.e. by moving the 'power band ' further down the pedal movement, and assign a bit more pedal movement to 'light throttle'

Hi, just to say that about 5 weeks ago I had the EGR valve replaced (2.0TDCi) with the new re-designed one (stronger motor etc) together with re-calibration using CD42, exactly as the 'fix' prescribed here by 'Doc' Mastertech. Since then, I have had no further problems like I had before. Engine generally goes better and more consistently now, and average MPG from each fill-up has increased from around 35MPG to 46MPG. Now I know I could be shouting off a bit early here.... but I reckon it's fixed now. :) ps. Perhaps I'm being a bit picky, but the only negative aspect is a 'slight' relu

NEVER use "washing-up liquid" - it contains salts and crap that encourages rust and, I am assured, accelerated oxidisation and degradation of the paint surface... :shock: Well I dunno if all that is true or just rumour. But given that you can buy "proper" car shampoo liquid so cheaply, it's simply not worth the risk. :roll:
  6. OK your right, but Ford accept and fit their Diesel engine with that EGR valve fitted. That's their business. Then they sell the whole car to me. Then it becomes MY business when that valve is faulty and is wasting my cash due to poor economy, and my time (and safety) by breaking down. :evil: And by the way, just as 'Ford' make few component parts, 'PSA-Peugeot-Citroen' are just the same. They may assemble the engines, but I'd be surprised if they actually make the EGR valve - it's probably made outside by an OEM parts supplier. No, I don't know who, and don't really care either. Onslowe, after having CD41 update then getting same EGR problem 3 weeks later and tapping valve with screwdriver to get car running, dealer insisted I have CD42 update in case it fixed the problem. No problem for another 11 days, then - Guess what - Yup, EGR valve got stuck again! Thing is, after 10 failed attempts to re-start it, I tapped it 5 times with the screwdriver and started it first time - so tapping it un-jammed it straight away, whereas 10 software Ignition cycling re-attempts (allowing 15 seconds before each ignition ON) failed to shift it.   9. Mastertech . I suspect I've got same problem on me 2.0TDCi. I get the "Dead" accelerator pedal, poor starting/very slow, feeble tickover start-up problem. Happens roughly once every 8 starts, though you can't predict when it will do it. Dealer promised this "recal" fix before Xmas but CD was not available then... :? Looks like the've forgotten me... :cry: Do you reckon they should be able to fix it now? Dealer also said I had a DTC recorded - a "P002" - not sure if it's related. Any guesses what that DTC means, should I be worried? Thanks in advance.

I've got a Saarlous, Germany July 2005 built CMax Ghia 2.0TDCi (worked it out from the VIN) which also has occasional problems as follows;- 1) roughly 1 in 4 cranking (engine start) attempts result in either no noticeable firing or a very slow 'feeble' tickover, where the accelerator pedal does absolutely nothing, zippo, nada :( . Thankfully, cycling ignition and trying again usually fixes it. 2) On one occasion a red 'fault' light came on after about 30 seconds into the journey, together with a "Engine System Fault" message on the driver display :shock: .   11. For what it's worth , I reckon the calibration/scaling of the throttle pedal doesn't help. I reckon that 80% of the effective throttle range is mapped to the first 20% of the pedal movement - i.e. very non-linear throttle progression. In other words, I think the throttle pedal is rather too sensitive, favouring driver 'satisfaction' ("touch the throttle and it flies!") but sacrificing the ability to fine control light throttle settings, which is what you need to get best fuel economy. Don't get me wrong, I doubt that this is the main cause of poor economy, but I am saying that this 'feature'
