  1. Yup, I've found this too. Been a while since this last happened but I seem to remember the immobiliser light flashing rapidly too. Dunno what it means tho! Like Dale I've found that giving it some gas gets it started again.
  2. ah. Mind you as far as the engine management is concerned a mk2 focus is probably much more inteligent than w reg bravo :D
  3. I think I'm the only one in my club :( 3dr ink blue
  4. I had this on my old car, not a focus but showed the same symptoms. Occured after it'd been in for a service or something. It seemed to be something to do with the engine management computer calibrating it's "normal" rev value too high. The fix I had was to disconnect the battery for about 5 mins, so resetting the engine management computer, connect it up again then start the car and leave it idling for 10+ mins. Allowing it to re-calibrate to the correct value. Of course I may be completely off the mark but it's worth a shot :D Don't forget you'll need the code or whatever you have fo
  5. I won't be selling the stalk adapter until I sell the rest of the HU, but I'll keep you in mind when I do mjd. In case you want to go ahead and get the stalk adapter anyway, I got mine from http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/ about £35 to the door.
  6. It should work between all MK2s and JVCs. The lead is actually made up of 2 parts the MK2 connector (Autoleads PC99-X50) and the JVC connector (Autoleads PC99-JVC). Really simple to install.
  7. If you are interested I could sell you my HU - JVC tho, not Alpine. JVC KD-SH9101. Here's some pics: Day time Night time (the lcd display goes negative when you put your lights) The red buttons go well with the rest of the dash at night. Its a couple of years old but still sells for over £200 new. I could also sell you all the required connectors to get it running in your car too, including steering controls. The manual is here if you want to check its specs http://jvcmobile.co.uk/documents/manuals/KD-SH9101.pdf
  8. Good job MJD, thanks for the pics! as for this: Swapping out the HU will make a difference to sound but not as much as swapping the speakers first. But obviously these go hand in hand - a system is only as good as its weakest link! You wont get the full potential from your speakers till you've swapped the hu and cabling too... then amped all of your speakers individually... :D
  9. Went to ask about these in my local dealership so I could see them in the flesh. I'm actually with Tom on this now - not convinced they look all that good once installed in the car! Sorry Jo.
  10. mjd, I'd be interested in pics too - especially how to get the door cards off. Got some blau comps that I had in my old car but haven't been bothered to fit them in the focus yet as the stock ones actually aren't that bad. Anyone know the specs of the stock speakers btw?
  11. I might be interested Are you selling the handbrake too? If not, do you know if you can buy the handbrake separately? Ewan
  12. This is the way the standard equipment in the 3 door zetec works. You will need to get your window control module upgraded before you can turn on/off global closing using this method.
  13. Yes, both should slide. My car actually developed this fault soon after I bought it - took it back to the dealers and had it fixed in a day.
  14. I think this is a "feature" of the 3 door models only! It's about as rediculous as the front seats that don't slde back to their original position after you've folded them forwards.
  15. It isn't a surround amp - you'll need to get one of those separately. But you are right, it could be an extra amp for enhanced sound quality. I hope I'm wrong too! Good luck!
  16. yes it can be reversed just need to be careful with trim etc so that it isn't damaged. Or pay a professional!
  17. On p68 of the manual are installation guides. There is no indication of being able to wire the speakers directly into the hu. Follow the diagram from top to bottom of the page - 6 & 7 are your front and rear RCA speakers connections (these look like the connectors on the back of a home hi-fi system - usually 1 red and 1 white coaxial). These are shown to go straight into the amp 10 & 11. Speaker wire/connectors would need a whole different type of connection.
  18. Depending on where you place the amp will define how hard it is to re-wire your speakers. There will be guides in the ICE section on here and I find these guys pretty helpful too http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb/ Generally it will be a case running new wires under the trim/carpet from each of your speakers to wherever you locate your amp. Potentially if you can fit the amp near your dash in or behind the glove box or under the seat you might be able to just extend the speaker wires from the wiring block behind the hu to the amp. Then most of the wiring is done for you, but then obviously t
  19. If I am correct about the hu not having an internal amp then if you exclude the amp from your install for the time being, then all you'd get would be video with no sound! The wiring block you unplugged from your old hu provides all the connections for your speakers (amongst other things like power, steering wheel controls etc). Basically by siting the external amp elsewhere in the car, you will also have to resite the speaker connections.
  20. I was going to suggest just getting the hu installed and worrying about the amp later but I've just had a quick scan through the manual on the alpine site and it looks to me like there is no internal amp in the hu like you would normally find so you will need to get this wired up too. This will mean finding a good place for the amp(glove box, under a seat or the boot depending on its size), securing it and running not only your RCA outputs from the back of the hu to the amp but also your speaker outputs from the amp to your speakers.... which means rewiring your speakers. You should probab
  21. Been a lurker here for a ages but this thread has compelled me to join up and post (Been meaning to join for months anyway). Anyway, it really isn't hard - had mine done in about 15mins. Including steering remote! The hardest bit really is trying to get the old HU out! I remember the cuts well from the razor sharp chassis and the removal keys aren't exactly ergonomic either. Disconnect the battery just to be safe - you only need to undo one terminal Once you've disconnected the old HU you should be left with a wiring block and another lead which is your aerial. Next fit the chassis i
  22. Hmm cheers guys, looks like a possiblity! I wasn't aware autoleads made a silver/grey facia - all I could find was the fp-07-09, your links point to fp-07-10. I'll get one ordered and post some pics once I have it installed. :D
  23. I too have a zetec climate and have been looking for a single din fascia in silver for ages (well, since I got the car about a month ago anyway)! I can't believe nobody makes fascias to match the zetec dash - I was having a couple of "niggles" looked at by the ford service department today and asked them about single din fascias. The best they could offer was replacing the whole silver area of the dash with the standard black dash then put a black fascia in! I Considered spraying a black fascia but reckon colour matching would be tricky. I too would be interested to see one of Faithless's f
