  1. My 04 Zetec came with 2 keys, but only one was a remote. What a pain when two of you regularly share the same car! I didn't really have an issue with having to use a key to unlock the door, but trying to disable the alarm by turning the ignition to the second position within 12 seconds and before any other doors/boot were opened (or else the alarm sounded) was a major inconvenience. So I bought a second remote key off of ebay (about £20). It's easy to program this (as detailed in the handbook) to deactivate the alarm and open the locks, so it could easily just be used as a fob to accompa
  2. Ours used to be a bit like this. Sometimes I would drive it and it just didn't 'feel' right. The dealer couldn't find anything wrong obviously, but it added to the general air of uncertainty every time I drove it. I did think at one point it may have been the fuel sender giving the wrong level to the computer and causing it to go into limp mode, as this did later fail completely showing the tank as only half full even when we topped it up to the brim. Incidently, this was a new sender installed by our dealer to replace one that was absolutely fine (long story, don't ask) in an effort to f
  3. Well I've finally got rid of our 2004 2.0 TDCi Zetec after 6 months of ownership. Talk about a love / hate relationship! Our car had loads of options for a Zetec including parking sensors, heated screen, auto lights and wipers, auto dimming rear view mirror, 17" 9x2 Ford alloys, rear door blinds to name but a few. It had seemed like the perfect car, as it had all the kit we wanted (except for rear electric windows) but avoided the EPB and dodgy wood trim of the Ghia. We also got it for quite a good price from a Ford main dealer with 20k miles on the clock. If anyone's interested we paid
  4. Yes, take it in asap. I can't think why it wouldn't be covered by the warranty. Your suspension should be fixed under warranty also (mine was), it's something to do with the bump stops and is a known fault with the early cmax. There is a TSB on it but I don't know the number I'm afraid. They will probably need to have the car in for a good few hours (if not all day) to fix it though.
  5. It's something to do with the CAN bus (communication link) but doesn't seem to be a serious issue. I had it on my 04 2.0 tdci, and it had to be cleared to allow the cluster software to be successfully updated to version 424. It reappeared soon afterwards if I recall correctly (still there now I think), but as far as I know it's not something to worry about. I presume you have seen it in the self test mode on your dash as I don't think it even shows up on Fords WDS system. Hope this helps.
  6. Well after a week away in Dorset, our 04 Zetec 2.0 TDCi has managed (according to the computer) 50.7mpg over 670 miles. This includes motorway both ways with M25 traffic jams and a cruising speed around 80ish, and five days of country lane driving (hardly out of 4th gear) often with five passengers. I know the onboard computer isn't 100% accurate, but before we had the engine management software updated to the latest release we were struggling to obtain 40mpg, so overall I'm quite pleased with it. When we did some true mpg calculations in the past we normally found that the computer was r
  7. Well here we are nearly a month down the road, and apparantly my dealer is still waiting for the part! I queried whether the part was actually necessary, or whether the software update wasn't worth trying first, and the said they were following the TSB from Ford!? They also told me that all the updates were done when my car was last in, which is a load of rubbish according to the self test mode. Oh well, we'll wait and see I guess.
  8. OK, I've located the origin of the beeper. It's somewhere behind the plastic side moulding in the lower part of the boot on the drivers side (under the little stowage bin). However the trim looks like it's a pain to remove, and even then I don't know if any adjustment is available. Any ideas on whether it is even worth me attempting to get to it? Thanks.
  9. Thanks for the replies. It's not the front / rear speaker balance that's the problem, as I have the bias on the rears anyway. I'll try removing the rear trim tonight to see if I can find anything as suggested by Nick.
  10. From what I can gather from the manual it suggests that the beeps come from one of the rear loudspeakers, so you would expect the volume to increase in line with the stereo volume, but it doesn't seem to. It just seems odd that you cant adjust the level to suit your individual needs. I have perfect hearing, but it really is too quiet to be used without making a real effort to listen for it.
  11. Does anyone know if there is a way to increase the volume of the reverse parking sensors on the c-max? I have an 04 2.0 tdci zetec which had the sensors (rear only) fitted as an option. At the moment you can only hear them with the stereo turned right down, hence how the wife managed to reverse into a post at Tescos yesterday! Thanks.
  12. I was thinking about this issue some more today (still waiting for the dealer to call) and I was wondering whether anyone knows which part of the system triggers the low fuel alarm? If the sender merely reports the fuel level to the cluster, and the cluster makes the decision about whether the fuel is low then I don't see how it is a sender problem. The actual level reported by the gauge seems fairly accurate, it reports 'full' after a fill up and nearly empty after about 450 miles. It also is showing the correct level when the alarm comes on. Or is it the sender which triggers the low fuel
  13. Cheers for that. It's pretty much as I feared. Looks like I will have to just bite the bullet. I would love to watch how long it actually takes them to do the job! I may even just cut the blade off the holder and turn it into a separate fob, although it pains me to do this when I've just had a new key cut! I guess Ford got wise to the fact that a lot of customers would want a second remote key, and realising (thanks to ebay) that an entire second hand key market had emerged outside of their control, decided to make sure they got a slice of the action somehow. OK, maybe I'm being a bit c
  14. Given that both myself and the wife use our car equally, it soon became a real pain not having two remote keys. So I recently bought a second hand remote fob (£15), which I have successfully reprogrammed (as described on the manual) to open the car. I have had a new blade (£9) cut and fitted to it. So far so good. I now have a key that remotely unlocks and deactivates the alarm and that can also open all the locks manually. The only thing it doesn't do is start the bleeding engine! I have been quoted £70 (1hr) by ford to set the cars imobiliser to read this new key. Does anyone know of
