  1. Was that a stable door I just hear closing?
  2. In the old days when engines burnt a lot of oil and combustion was inefficient, large deposits of carbon would build up in the combustion chamber and exhaust ports. This had to be cleaned out by stripping the top end of the engine. Modern engines do not burn much oil and the new oils leave fewer deposits. Combustion is also much cleaner meaning that a de-coke is no longer required.
  3. Talcum powder is a good lubricant for fitting rubber components. It might be worth a try on the seals.
  4. Do you mean the 1700 RPM mis-fire? Could be! :D
  5. Clutch pedal creak fixed under waranty. :D They could not detect the 1700 RPM missfire though.
  6. Have you checked the tyre pressures? I run 37 psi all round and it handles fine. Just a bit of squirming under hard acceleration. :D
  7. 2. Sounds like the problem with mine before the EGR was sorted. It was always smelly esp. when cold.
  8. I've tried that. It didn't rattle while the garage had it. No fault found.
  9. One in the door, one in the dash, but they come and go at random. I've tightened everything to no effect. The radio / CD trick works.
  10. Mine did this until I had the latest EGR and software fitted. It doesn't smell at all now.
  11. From what you say, it sounds like the problem is higher up in the mechanism than I thought. :? I'll put a bit more effort into it tomorrow. :)
  12. A helpful comment would have been more welcome.
  13. But the Service Manager has told you that you don't have the newly modified type of valve. :?
  14. Since the warmer weather, my clutch pedal creaks like mad! WD40 does not cure it. Is this another common C-Max accessory?
  15. My idle quality became poor and I got the 1700 RPM missfire when my new EGR valve was fitted. Mastertech is strangely quiet on the subject.
  16. Mine's been fine since the last fix, so I'm thinking that this may be the final solution :) . However, the light throttle missfire that they introduced at the same time is starting to annoy me. Perhaps I'll take it back again after all :( .
  17. You can't see it on the C-Max without taking the plenum / first bulkhead out. It is down the back of the engine attached to the exhaust manifold. If you follow the silver pipe back from the inlet manifold, you can feel it.
  18. Thanks for the reply DougS. My intention was to remove the card in order to access a small ding in the door, but as this door is rattle free at the moment I don't think I'll bother. It is a lease car so I'll get it fixed by someone just before hand-back. I expect there will be more by then.
  19. http://www.ffoc.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=123531 Perhaps there are not too many C-Max owners reading the Interiors section. :)
  20. Mine rattled from the rear when going over speed bumps.
  21. I had this on mine too (1,8 Focus), the dealer fixed it by "adjusting the run of the cable and clipping it back into position". Although it was still under warranty, they charged me £15 because "adjustments are not covered by warranty".
  22. I've never found it to be a problem. I wear my seatbelt.
  23. There is more variation due to driving style than most people imagine. I get 30 mpg or less when I do very short local trips (2.0 TDCi C-Max), but yesterday I achieved over 58 mpg! This was over 60 miles of mixed A roads at 50 +/- 10mph and motorway at 70 +/- 10 mph. The numbers are from the trip computer, which I have checked a couple of times and found to be very slightly pessimistic. I have recently had the new EGR and software fitted.
  24. Mine has been OK so far with the modified valve, but it now has a very slight misfire at light throttle when cold and the idle quality is not quite as good as it was. :? I'll live with it.
  25. I notice a definite difference, but find Standard about right.
