  1. Both the rear wheel arches, at the door shut lines on my '05 car are plastered in deep stone chips. I keep touching them up but it's as bad as ever in a few months. A few other cars I've had in the past have been susceptible in this area, but not to the extent suffered by my Max. Am I alone?
  2. The straight chrome tail pipe trim on the Mondeo ST TDCI is a dummy in the sense that the end of the true exhaust pipe still angles down as expected. The gases exit an oval hole cut further back up the trim on its under side, not out the visible / purely cosmetic open end. Clever idea + might fit the C-Max?
  3. Adam H Erwin, Co. Antrim ... Very helpful parts guys, particularly Joe and very easy to pay.
  4. Cheers , really appreciate it. Now I've someone to get in touch with. Watch this space
  5. Rang Blaupunkt direct who confirmed that no CD Changer ever made by them is compatible with this unit. The reason ... yes, it was made by Blaupunkt but to Ford Spec which differs from their own. According to the handbook it'll definitely take one and Ford offered it as an option once upon a time but it looks like I can only source my own through them, unless you know otherwise? (There's an Aux/CD button and I currently use the corresponding socket on the rear of the unit for an MP3 jack)
  6. I retro fitted the proper Ford roof mounted DVD to my Zetec about a year ago. My understanding is that it wasn't even an option on this and lower models. What I've written below doesn't refer to the Ghia and higher as I've no experience of them. Basically take out the head cloth, its quite rigid. There's no special fittings beneath, you have to buy a light metal plate from Ford (£15). You then cut a hole in the head cloth just smaller than the plate. The lips on the plate hold it in place (between inside of roof and head cloth) aided by some recessed bolts / nuts going through the head cloth

  10. Cheers Nick, appreciate you taking the time to reply. Will give it a go... MK
  11. Used to run a SAAB 9-3 Aero but my work transferred me resulting in a 110 mile round trip every day. At 35 MPG driven gently it had to go. Kids had also arrived, hence the C-Max and went for the 1.6 Turbo Diesel with economy being the highest priority. Regularly get 60 MPG, with 68+ if driven particularily gently and I'm disappointed if she dips below 55. Last fill to fill, according to the trip computer was 640 miles!
  12. Here's one to try... I've a Zetec so don't have the central roof mounted rear view childrens mirror of the Ghia. While I don't actually need the mirror I always thought the similar glasses holder set up of the Mondeo was a great idea. I don't think it's even an option on the C-Max? I picked a Mondeo item up on eBay for £12 inc p+p, so not dear. Please ensure it comes with the black plastic backing piece. If you want to fit one also, it's not that difficult... Remove your existing interior light to reveal two screws that hold the surrounding plastic trim to the metal of the roof. When
  13. I use a non-Ghia three button remote (less the key part) as a key ring for the ordinary backup key that came with my Zetec. Fob gives you remote access and the key disables the immobiliser.
  14. Just discovered that both headphones have a single jack. I can play the DVD soundtrack through the cars speakers by running a lead from one of these to the car stereos auxillary socket. The head phone fits nicely in the back bin of the center consol where it gets a good signal and the cable runs forward, out of the way along the side of the front passenger seat. I've tried running the same lead direct from the spare head phone jacks on the overhead player without success, I can only guess the amplifier in the head phones in making the difference.
  15. Ford were quoting me £133 for 2 x IR headphones. Bought a non-Ford pair through the below site for just £29.98 (including next day recorded/insured delivery) and they're 100% compatible. Each has it's own volume and balance control and work any where in the car. Sound is just as good as on the wired set I was using before plus they've a clever sliding strip that automatically adjusts to the wearers head size, perfect fit for the kids. www.Auto-Gadgets.co.uk I've nothing to do with these people, just very impressed with their product and service. Nickwells - can you explain in more deta
  16. Fitting rear electric windows to my Zetec and found that the wiring looms already include connectors for rear tweeters as per Ghia models. Any Ghia owners out there who can confirm whether or not the tweeter grilles in their rear door cards are moulded into the plastic or are seperate items that I can add. (ideally to cover the holes from my previous winders)... Thx
  17. Bought the actual DVD unit that fits to the roof on eBay, less the headphones and remote. After speaking to my very helpful dealer he can source the cradle to attach it to the roof (£15), the headphones x 2 (£133) and remote (£20) What's not clear... is there already a wiring loom behind the head cloth or do I need a new one, his computer is very vague. There is a single 10 pin block connector on the DVD. Anyone done this job already or can give us a few pointers... Thx.

  19. Cheers, will check him out. On the face of it the description does look like the latest disc gives much more coverage here. Once again, thanks all.
  20. Was in Belfast this afternoon and the system worked perfectly, thanks everyone for your help. I wonder when a system is first installed does the user have to view the demo to confirm they know how the sat nav works before it will fully function? Sort of a similar idea to the disclaimer that comes on everytime the unit is started reinforcing that the driver is ultimately responsible for how the car is driven. I think the main problem for me is going to be the crappy coverage. Don't know why I should be surprised, in this backwater everything's 15 years behind the rest of the world!
  21. I've been messing about since the last post and tried the route simulation demo, which works fine. After doing that the icon that formally only completed 1/3 now goes completely dark for a genuine route selection but still shows 'off map' I don't know the first thing about sat nav so forgive me if this seems a really stupid thing to say... I live in Northern Ireland. The disc I have is a 2004 (Blaupunkt - made for the Ford EX) and mainly covers the UK Mainland street/road network. There is NI and Eire coverage but it's limited to main routes only with just several main cities having the st
  22. Should have said that I completed the new install setup and the unit calibrated itself OK
  23. Holding in the 'i' or'menu' doesn't appear to do anything unfortunately. What I did discover is that the disc will load and after some quiet whirring noises for 60 seconds or so bring the icon on the bottom right to fully dark. You can then select a destination OK but when you press enter to commence the sat nav directions the same icon changes to 1/3 complete. You are then verbally advised that 'your position is outside the digitized road network' and 'no map' is displayed When you try to eject the disc a display states 'navigation information not yet fully loaded. Press again to eject'
  24. The disc seems fine but unfortunately I've no access to another to double check. tomtom70's idea... is there some way of telling if this is the fault or does it have to be checked by an expert?
  25. Can't seem to get the Sat Nav to work although radio/cd etc perfect. Gives a 'No Map' message and disc icon bottom right only shows 1/3 complete, never becomes fully black. Using proper Blaupunkt disc. Any ideas?
