  1. Just because a radio can't set the clock in the car doesn't really make it not fit for purpose does it?
  2. yes it would. But as pichacker mentioned the option has been removed from the recent release of the WDS software. the only way you can get the done is to find a dealer who is willing to revert to an old version of the WDS software. As this goes against official advice from Ford, most will say No!
  3. Sorry i meant the isntruction for removing the ID bead from a Ford key. Nick
  4. Found it! Autolocking On Focus C-Max (And new Focus) First use WDS to enable the customer setting mode:- • Connect WDS to the vehicle and identify in the normal manner. • Select Toolbox - Module Programming. • Select Programmable Parameters – Power Door Locks. Ensure the following two parameters are set to Enabled. • Autolocking While The Vehicle Is Moving • Autolock/Relock Configuration Status Once this has been done you will need to perform a module reset on the GEM to activate the settings. Select Toolbox - Module Programming. Select Programmable Parameters – Module
  5. Who's your dealer Al? Looks like another good one (there are a few!) Good dealers welcome the extra hints like stuff from here! Some just get annoyed that the customer thinks they know more than the trained mechanics! Sadly in some cases its true! I guess in Webb2000's case its a little annoying to have to leave the car longer rather than get the quick fix done. My personal opinion would be let them replace whatever they need whilst under warranty. It's after the 3 years we will all start arguing!! I can't claim credit for most of the content on the sticky, i just collect anything i
  6. Alex1, given the cost of labour and parts do you not think the dealer would simply do a firmware update if that is all that is required? There has been a TSB on this.
  7. There are instructions how to do this in the technical section. Trouble is you need to be a paid up member to read it. :(
  8. I beleive there were some faulty sender units (the bit that sits in the fuel tank to measure the level) They would need to remove the fuel tank to replace this. Then they will do the software update.
  9. Nope. Only a dealer can tell you that sing the WDS. If you take the car in complaining of poor fuel economy they should check that your car has the latest engine management firmware. They should also look for any tell tale error codes that could indicate a fault. Back up your concerns with real facts not what the trip computer says. Fill the car & record the mileage. When you next fill up record the mileage again & calculate the performance based on how much fuel you put in. I know this sounds obvious, but so many people complain on here saying my car only does 3x mpg cos tha
  10. If the doors are locked manually then you did it so technically & legally its your fault.
  11. Tada! That is the magic question. They should but what if they don't? Who is at fault? If you locked the doors then its your fault. but if the car does it & they don't open? ... I've still got it enabled on my car too. Makes the wife feel safer. Didn't stop her being driven off the road at the weekend though through a fence! Not enough of an impact to set off the airbags but still did £2.5k of damage to the bodywork. Damn fence hit every panel except the tailgate. D'oh!
  12. It only takes a second to smash a window & open the door though. You have to make the choice: Is it more of a risk that the doors might not unlock automatically in an impact or Someone tries to car jack you at the lights.
  13. That's right AlunS. Both my car & Matt's have already had the option enbled by the WDS.
  14. The automatic central locking can be activated or deactivated by following the programming sequence below within a space of 30 seconds (all doors must be closed and remain closed during the programming): l Turn the ignition switch to the position "II". l Push and pull the internal door handle on one of the front doors three times, or press the "unlocking" button in the passenger compartment three times. l Turn the ignition key to position "0" or "I". l Push and pull the internal door handle on one of the front doors three times, or press the "unlocking" button in the passenger comp
  15. If the firmware in the radio is old it may still have the RDS feature enabled. Turn this off first, then you will be able to set the clock.
  16. 'Rear demist' I did this once and ended up with a flat battery. Its what the dealers use to put the car in WDS mode. Use with extreme caution!
  17. tecedeiro, Any ideas why they only disabled the option on the c-max not the focus?
  18. Having played with Ford & Merc sat navs I bought a Garmin. Much better, much cheaper & not tied to the car.
  19. If you got in early enough it was possible. But it has now been removed from the WDS so the dealers cant do it.
  20. I'd just get a new cover. It is easy to remove.
  21. I was taking a relative home from hospital so it was the smoothest driving i've ever done hence the 78 mpg RAFE. The journey was about 50 miles & a fair bit of it was downhill which makes the figures even better. 70-80 mpg coasting in sixth gear shoots the figures up! Normally around town & short trips the RAFE is 35 - 40 mpg. Not quite what Ford quote but for the size & power of the car it does me!
  22. You'll also notice the air comes out of the vents faster. It's easier for the fan to circulate the air inside the car. Normally the fan is drawing air into the car from outside but how does it get out? There are vents in the car (somewhere) to let some of the air out but nowhere near as fast as the fan is pulling it in. Thats why there is more airflow when you recirculate. You can see this effect when you shut the last door of the car. It always needs pushing a little harder because the air pressure inside the car is stopping the door from closing. If you leave a window open the door
  23. If you haven't driven a modern diesel you must take one for a test drive. It is a different drive from the petrol you're used to but the 2.0 TDCi has incredible torque. The biggest difference will be in the higher gears even up to sixth. When you need a surge of power to overtake the transient overboost kicks in and the car just pulls! It wont match the fun factor of the ST but it will certainly bring a smile to your face! The cheaper tax, fuel economy & insurace costs might also be worth considering. On a recent gentle trip up the M40 from London to Bicester i averaged 78mpg! doin
