To be honest I don't think you can do too much, the shape of the car is what probably causes a lot of the noise. If you look at the other cars in the class they're all a lot sleeker then the focus (esp the mk2).

Yeah I appreciate that but they already have them out for the 1.6s (100 and 115 bhp). I know there was talk of them having it in development, but that was agessssssss ago, so I'm guessing it's been shelved. Rubbish. I wish ford did a 'warm' focus, something around 180 bhp would have been quite nice. Hopefully they do with the next one.

I imagine you're better off doing that, I wouldn't want any lime-scale getting in my cooling system.

You'd be better trying to get hold of the sony cd changer, I had a single din one in my old focus (still a mk2) and the sony looks much nicer, plus it's a decent stereo. I think someone has/had one for sale in the parts for sale section (surprise surprise). Try asking tezza for a new surround perhaps?

Does anyone know if there is a remap for the 2.0l petrol in development? I know it was mentioned on here ages ago but I fear it's been forgotten now they've all gotten excited over the RS. Cheers

Try and pull one side out at a time, i.e left then right. Takes a lot of wiggling but eventually you should be able to get some decent purchase on it.

Nice one, glad you got it sorted in the end. I've always liked the look of the zetec s, if only they'd put a proper engine in it......

This weekend my washer jets stopped working, I'm guessing that the filter is full of gunk, I can still hear the motor etc so hopefully that's all that's wrong (stupid ford removing the low washer fluid warning, rubbish!). Anywho, being a complete numpty at this I know you have to take the wheel off and then take the wheel arch liner off, but how do you actually do this? I've not had a chance to look yet so thought I'd ask all you lovely people before I attempt it and make a mess of it all. :D Cheers.

Loads of people have done colour coding on here, if you search for it you'll find some pretty decent guides. I wouldn't take it to a place that suggests it will crack, they sound like they have no idea what they're doing! :shock:

Nice motor! I'd agree with the above, colour coding is the way to go. I wouldn't touch the mechanics at your age though, the insurance company will charge you a bomb for that (plus I had a 1.6 and don't think there's much to gain out of the engine).

To be honest I'd just stick with what you've got, you've got to weigh in the extras like insurance, not sure that the performance increase is worth the extra you'd have to pay. Just my 2 cents. Surely if you're at college you should be wasting the money on booze anyway? :D

Which 1.6? From what I've seen you don't get that much in the way of extra power with the ti-vct engine. Not worth the money if you ask me. If you want more performance get another focus with a bigger engine. That's what I did and I couldn't be happier.

I got my 2.0 zetec last week and it's great, apart from one thing... At 70mph (3000 rpm in 5th gear) I can hear a faint, but very high pitched whining, but if I got slightly above or below this speed it goes away. :? Does anyone know what this could be?

Well I picked it up on Friday and it's sooooooooo much better than my 1.6. Somehow I'm even getting better fuel economy out of it (when I don't floor it!!) which is a win win to me! 70mph is at 3000rpm in mine, that 400rpm extra that I needed in the 1.6 must have made a load of difference to the fuel economy.

Sorry, I wasn't awake when I wrote that! I meant that I'd agreed to buy the car but at that point not everything had gone through. I didn't want to tempt fate! Just from a dealer, though I used Autobytel.com to find the car, seems to be a pretty good site as an alternative to the usual suspects.

Cool. I can appreciate where you're coming from with the 6th gear thing, I'm trading in my 1.6 ti-vct for the new car, and that has exactly the same problem. I don't think this problem is isolated to the focus though. I'll probably be stuck behind some old granny doing 40 on the back roads on the way to work, no need to worry about high revs at that speed!

Cheers for the advice guys. In the end I went for the petrol, at that price I couldn't really say no. Plus I'm too young to worry about fuel consumption! (That's what I keep telling myself, I drive like a grandad anyway, apart from the weekend :twisted: ) Oh yeah as a final note, is the sony 6cd stereo any good? I took the original ford one (6000) out of my last focus as it was rubbish. If the sony one is any good I'll probably leave it in there as it does look good!

I just ordered an 07 plate 2.0 zetec 3dr with 14k on the clock from a main stealer for 7500, so if you wanted to go ford something slightly older you'll definitely be able to find something within your budget.

Cheers for all the pointers, I'll have a look at a diesel if they've got any at the dealers. Any pointers on those? Never owned a diesel before so I'm not sure what to look for. Is there any major work that needs to be done at a certain mileage etc? Bit annoyed that even with the bigger engine it looks like ford have fitted the same gearbox to all of the petrol engines. Seems pointless to me.

cheers. I've currently got a 1.6 ti-vct zetec climate so i can understand where you're coming from in terms of the gearing. Definitely taking it for a test drive, wouldn't buy a car without one!

Afternoon all, I'm going to look at an 07 plate 2.0 zetec climate with 14000 on the clock at the weekend, and it's marked up at £7500. Does this seem like a decent price? Anything else I've seen in that range is generally 06 or earlier with about 40k on the clock.
