  1. heres a link to the VOSA safety recall webpage for the focus.....the fan loom one being at the bottom of page 2 of 3. Note on page three there is a newer one for the 2L duratorq engine. http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recall ... ring=(FORD FOCUS) for the date range 01/1/1980 to 01/1/2010&tx=
  2. How do you "correctly" undo the hose/airduct clamps that hold the air intake to the Throttle body.....they are like a band with a crimped raised section so the ring pulls tight.......I am looking to inspect my throttle body see if it needs a clean out with some carb cleaner etc etc.......
  3. benhaha do you have the higher ratio gearbox in your 2.0L mate, ie crying out for a 6th gear, and 3200 odd rpm at 70mph. MY 1.6 MK1 was quite good on economy, but thinking about it in a mk2 it may be as you say using more juice as its working harder to move the heavier mk2.............
  4. Bear in mind that the 1,6 will be much better geared than your 1.8 (im assuming your current 1.8 has the really high final drive ratio) and therefore have a much better fuel economy, But i personally think the 1.6 will have to be worked hard (as has been mentioned) to move the focus along at any pace.
  5. VX must be really really bad, to be worse than Ford :o
  6. I didnt get my focus from evans halshaw mate and trust me your SPOT ON in saying you couldnt trust them to service a toaster....I apologise if any of you chaps work at evans halshaw, but my local one really couldnt service a pedal car!!!! and the sales people were just guinea pigs that led you to a sales manager, that basically says, "how much can you afford a month, and this is the car you can have for that, OH and youll need to buy it before you see it!!!! beciause we have to buy it from Ford direct first " thats when i walked out, I got to look at the markup these dealers put on ford direct
  7. We were told our deal was a good one and i wouldnt get the then FREE sport pack upgrade because the car was already built and it would be avaialable on the first day of the new registration...........07. Anyway it was LIES and the car had to be ordered from scratch, so I made them order the sport pack on top. It turned out that the car was going to take another 6 weeks. to arrive so because of that i got THREE years free servicing, and all the little things i could wring out of them like official focus mats, petrol etc etc......youll also notice that the salesmen only last a couple of years an
  8. Thats one MASSIVE kangaroo-up on the dealers side mate, I really cant understand FORD dealers , therye really bad compared to most other dealers. I would agree with darando............if they can come up with a car that YOU want (and not just satisfied with) Nailt the * * * * down for every thing you can squeeze out of em, 3 years free servicing or an eibach spring kit fitted, something along those lines.
  9. By the way, on my 1.8 the drain plug is a simple 13mm bolt. but to get at it and the filter you have to undo 6 or so TORX screws to drop the plastic guard. I usually use a vacum pump thing, and find it really good, but today i just drained it via the sump plug, and didnt spill a drop......................until i had to pour the full draining container into the main used oil barrel i have.
  10. good info chaps............looks like its magnatec next time for my Focus!!!........cheers
  11. I suppose im a sucker for using FORDs own oil mate, Ive always used it and gone down the line of "its what the engine was designed to use" and to be fair its kept any engine i have ever had clean and running well....but if its going to be silly money, i may have to change my thinking,
  12. I always Change my OIL in the focus every 6K ie inbetween FORD services, So as 30k clocked up this week i thought id change the oil today, so i popped into the nearest dealers for some oil and a filter. Anyway total cost of 5L of 5/30 ford oil and a filter was £40!!!! i could put MOBIL 1 in for that price !!!.........plus the new oil filter didnt come with a dust cap, and when i asked if i could have one with a cap, the arrogant parts bloke said "thats how it comes and what do you want the dust cap for anyway!" i did think of replying to him saying that "at least * * * * turpin wore a mask!!!
  13. Mine is more of a Misfire type, a few people have said it may be the throttle body, but the "techs" at fords just act dumb, saying well there is no adjustment on these cars, so there is not a lot we can do............... What they really mean is we cant be bothered trying to look for the fault. And because no fault code is showing up FORD wont pay up for the warranty work.........
  14. Have to say I am getting a bit fed up with the chainging performance of my 1.8 Duratec, some days it drives really sharp and quick, but others it pinks and feels lazy, and today started what i describe as a stutter when pulling away again...........Its just about to turn 30k on the clock and has been FORD serviced since new, plus its oil changed in between serivecs. Its been to the dealer three times with the pinking fault and all i get is........"COMPUTER SAYS NO PROBLEMS" they did change ONE spark plug the last time it was in for the problem, but that was about as much use as a handbrake on
  15. LOL of course they would have done one for the mondeo!! DOH!!!.....
  16. whats the betting it wont cover my Duratec 1.8HE engine either
  17. Dont think it will apply to your car, unless its a real high miler, but as far as older cars go, slipping out of gear was a sign of a worn gearbox. BTW when you change gear into second is it a POSITIVE change. perhaps it could be the selector needs adjusting if not ?????
  18. Rotten egg smell could be the CAT, normally if you have been working the engine hard you can get a sulpher/rotten egg smell from the cat. Also i have been told once that unburnt fuel getting into a the cat can smell lile rotten eggs. BUT as you seem sure its coming from the airvents, and you have been around the car sniffing......id go down the aircon/air route
  19. Has anyone who upgraded from a MK1 to a MK2 actually had a chance to drive a MK1 again after having the MK2 for a while....................LOL i drove My parents Mk1 about today, and Christ its so small and compact, you feel squashed.!!!!!! although it still handles like a dream........
  20. My apologies mate, i was checking my service record book, and IS supposed to be a "major" every 2nd year. or 12000 miles after an annual.................
  21. According to BSM the major should be at 37k. thats for my 07 zetec climate duratec he. Bear in mind you can get your car serviced anywhere that is VAT registered and they use gen ford parts!!..............thats how i understand it anyways :)
  22. Snatch his hand off mate, just make sure its a good qulaity job......my ST spoiler cost me £125 for painting alone...............so £260 is what id call mates rates!!!
  23. Id have said nearer to £600 fitted for a good quality job. Do you intend to do the removal and fitting yourself, that would bring the cost down. Also I dont know how the trim pieces on the sides are fitted, if they are self adhesive, take care when removing them, they can bend really easily and will never go back on flat..... Might be worth pricing up new ones as they would come ready primed.
  24. FORD Direct cars CAN be very overpriced mate, so do your homework, although im sure you got a good deal, just tread carefully, and please dont fall for the trick our local dealer (evans Halshaw) tried on us...........they wanted us to buy the car before they ordered it into stock! sounds ridiculous, but its true, I said to the salesmen "so you want me to buy a car that i havnt seen" and he said yes, claiming FORD DIRECT cars are as good as new, so you wont have a problem, thats when we walked out..........went to another dealer and got a brand new better spec car for LESS money than the Ford d
  25. How easy is it to remove the rear brake drums on the Mk2, has anyone done it etc etc.......reason is im going to throw a bit o black paint on them as they are starting to look a little rusty and old looking, when the car is only two years old.
