  1. God these 2.0 units seem to be full of problems. If it is the EGR, I wouldnt worry about driving it 4 miles. All it does is circulate exhaust gasses back into the inlet manifold for emissions purposes. EGR has been one of the biggest causes of problems on cars since EGR was first invented!
  2. Puma engines seem so much better than the * * * * Peugeot/Citroen ones. If they are strong enough to get ragged for 200k in a Transit, why didnt Ford use them in the C-MAX? The ford dealer where I work say they have very few problems with the Ford developed 1.8 Lynx engine, and the Puma!
  3. Thats because it didnt use the dual mass auxillary belt pulley. The PSA units use them, but they are renowned for shearing to bits, and the PSA Ford units use them!
  4. Certainly, as it much better than the old connects, and the engine injection system looks very different to the old TDCi. They are now Euro Stage IV compliant. The only data I can find is in this PDF. http://www.ford.co.uk/spg/getImage.asp?imageName=SPG_3_28_0_1258.pdf&filename=MY%202005.5%20-%2006.06.05
  5. Have you driven the new Connect? It baffles me how Ford have a more refined 1.8 in the Connect than in the Focus/S-Max/Galaxy! The 8v may be a bit rougher, but I like a bit of grunt in an engine, without the diesel knock that is always their in the PSA engine.
  6. But it's VERY rough, dies a death quickly at higher revs and it a * * * * to warm up They have recently redesigned it now. It is much quieter (almost as quiet as a petrol) and smoother, and seems to warm up quicker. If they made an all alloy version, it would be bang on IMO. The 2006 refresh connect (New style radio in the dash, the over riders from the front bumper has been removed, new grill with a flip Ford logo over the bonnet lock) has the redesigned engine, and it is very impressive to drive. From idle up to the limiter, it has boost, thanks to its variable geometry turbo.
  7. Shame ford had to go to peugeot/citroen to get them. Sound too wheezy and rattly to me. I think the 1.8 TDCi 8v Ford engine sounds better!
  8. I always thought that as soon as trip computers become the norm on cars, that more people will be conscious about the vehicles fuel economy. Maybe thats the idea?
  9. Thats it, it's the colder weather! The engine takes loads longer to warm up, the oil is colder so thicker, and its not helped by the heater on full heat. Also the colder air is denser, so the ECU chucks in more fuel, and the tyres etc are harder to turn, and drag caused by driving through the air is increased. Also more fuel is used to generate the extra power used by headlamps and heated screen etc.
  10. The New Ford Transit autolocks when the vehicle has gone over 5mph. It unlocks as soon as the door handle is pulled from inside.
