  1. My new C-Max failed on me twice (EGR) and the RAC cover which came with it picked the car up within 30 minutes on both occasions.
  2. I would have expected that. However, after a week driving around in Birmingham the readout is saying 29 mpg, but my calculation when refilling gives 31 mpg.
  3. OK I'll do it......... You mean stuff like what the prettiest colour is? :sofa
  4. I moved from a 1.8 petrol Focus to my 2.0 TDCi C-Max and the first thing I noticed was the driving position. It is much more like driving an SUV than a car, the windscreen seems to be miles away and it feels like there is much more space. I can now go on holiday without using a top box. However, the ride and handling are better than my Focus (I always suspected that something was wrong with mine as I was never that impressed) and it is quieter on the motorway. The main impression from the engine is that it goes like stink! All the power is low-down or mid-range which is great for everyday dr
  5. Hope all your complaints are legit and you're not one of these people who make a point of complaining about holidays etc to see what they can get.
  6. If you saw the way some of the management cars are treated you might be glad that yours was ex rental! I'd let it drop and save yourself some grief. :D
  7. Isn't progress wonderful. :D Don't leave home without your toolkit and a few spares.

  9. Got mine back on Monday. Drives very well and seems to be quieter and smoother than before with hardly any diesel rattle. Don't yet know about the fuel consumption as I have not been out of town this week, but the power seems fine and there is not a trace of hesitation.
  10. I'm not sure when the maximum flow of gas through the valve occurs. Although maximum NOx output occurs under full load conditions and the EGR is intended to reduce this, full load is not part of the emissions drive cycle. For this reason, there is probably no flow through the valve in order to allow maximum power output.
  11. You can't see it on the C-Max, it's tucked down the back of the engine under the plenum. If you remove the engine cover and follow the big stainless pipe back from the intake, you should be able to feel it. (though I've never tried)
  12. I had no problems with my 05 plate when it was used mainly on motorways. The trouble started when it was used mainly around town. I used to use supermarket fuel but changed to Esso.
  13. Is this a sort of diesel combustion rattle you are talking about? If so you could try a different brand of fuel. Some members say this helps. Mine varies depending on the type of driving I have been doing.
  14. Just filled up and it's reading 400, but I'm hoping for better now the new EGR has been fitted.
  15. Got my C-Max back! :D Seems to be fine apart from a slight smell of fuel. I'll give it a few days to settle in before passing judgement. Re Hire Car: my dealer rang me after 7 days to say that they had got me one without me asking. I won't miss the Astra SRi. It looked OK but the ride was poor and the throttle control was dreadful. I could go on, but to sum up - a Focus is better!
  16. On the C-Max it is easy enough to pop the cover off, but the valve is invisible as it is tucked away under the plenum at the back of the engine bay. I pick my car up with it's new valve tomorrow! :D (after 3 weeks off the road  )
  17. I've been waiting for 3 weeks! Supposed to come in last Friday, but didn't.
  18. I just did a quick check using the AutoTrader price guide and there seems to be more than £1000 difference after 2 years. So you probably get your money back when you sell it. :D And the rest of the Clan members think the same.
  19. You are right. It is programed to open as much as it needs without affecting maximum power output or particulates output. It can open much further when on boost as there is more air available. This is why blanking off a correctly functioning valve only has a small effect on performance and fuel economy. Unfortunately, perfect valves seem to be rare.
