  1. definatly mate id want the head taken of to check the bore and rings or a boreascop (sp) down to check it out , compression tests , sump taken of to check for metal fillings the lot . no way would i take my car back with some oil stuck in it  Thanks for that guys. I have passed a copy of the thread to my neighbour. He is hopefully going to join the FFOC anyway. When he eventually gets the car back, he is going to book it in somewhere for a thorough check of the engine. Pete
  2. Yes, mine also sits slightly under the middle. Mine does seem to warm up pretty fast though, say within about 5 minutes driving and the needle is in its usual position. Pete
  3. Hi, Many thanks. I spoke to my neighbour last night who is not a happy teddy. It seems that during the service a couple of things happened (or rather didn't happen). Firstly, the garage removed the oil 'top up cap' on top of the engine and left it laid on top of the engine (ie they didnt replace it). So when driving home, oil was forced out of the engine into the engine compartment. It then seems the cap dislodged itself from its position whilst he was driving and fell forward into the engine fan. As the fan was rotating, it smashed the fan, radiator, and fan surround. It also hit
  4. One of my neighbours has a 2006 Mk2 Focus 1.6 Sport. His car was in for its second (25k mile) service today at a Ford main dealer. As he was driving it home, all of a sudden he heard a loud bang from the engine, followed by a few more bangs. His engine management light also came on and he lost power. He was doing about 50mph at the time it happened. He stated e did not hit anything and there was nothing in the carriageway for him to have run over etc. Anyway,as he was only about a mile from home, he limped the car home. I have just been across to have a look. In the darkness but using
  5. Don't ask me how he has done it, but someone i know who lives 'down south' and has a Mk2 has taken a feed off the existing boot light and put an extra brighter light on the other side of the boot. I niticed when i was loading some kit into his boot that it was much better lit than mine. Might be worth thinking about?. Pete
  6. Noooooooo, don't do that. I had a test drive recently in a new Astra - it was pants compared to the focus. The handling was appalling and the instrumentation was really fiddley. The Focus is just so much better all round. Incidentally, I am having a test drive in a BMW 116 M Sport in a couple of weeks time, just to see what a RWD car is like. Although the overall cost of it is off putting. Pete
  7. Well, probably the fact that both Polar Ford and Dagenham Motors are actually owned by Ford might have some bearing on their crap customer service in general - ie overall Ford have nothing to lose even if someone goes to another Ford dealer - Ford still get a sale! Pete
  8. Valerie waited 13 weeks for a fiesta 1.6 tdci zetec climate and when it finally arrived it turned out to be a 1.25 petrol - needless to say we went to Richardson Ford and bought a ZS TDCI from the showroom! Was that Polar in Scarborough that co&&ed it up per chance?. My brother had a few problems with them when he bought his second hand Focus from there. I got my Mk2 new from Polar in Thirsk and they were reasonably okay - a lot better than CD Bramall (or Evans Halshaw as they now are) in Northallerton anyway. Pete
  9. Interesting that ESP will now be standard fit across the range - brings it into line with the VW Golf which has had it as standard for ages. Also the dropping of the Ghia trim is in line with the new C-Max and Mondeo. I am looking to change my Mk2 Zetec Climate in about June 08 so the new model will certainly be on my shopping list hopefuly in Titanium trim if I can afford it or i may stay at ZC level. I think a test drive will be the order of the day come January. Pete
  10. Mine is a 5dr Panther Black 2.0 Petrol Zetec Climate Automatic. Only option I got was ESP. Only mod was putting in the footwell lighting bulbs as the sockets and wiring were already there!. Pete
  11. Crikey, is it really three years since the Mk2 appeared?. Seems like only yesterday. Saying that, mine has just passed it's second birthday, so MOT time will be just under a year for me. Good luck with it, let us know the outcome. Pete
  12. Jamz, The electric-hydrulic steering is only fitted to the 1.8 and 2.0 petrols and all the diesels. It is hydraulic only (not electric hydraulic) on the 1.6 petrol varients. Just in case anybody was looking!. Pete
  13. One is for the ESP system on/off (if fitted). I cannot remember what the other one is for - poss heated seats or front airbag de-activation but I cannot say for certain. Pete
  14. I am pretty sure that in late 2006, Ford changed the spec for the 1.8 petrols, from originally having rear discs, to fitting rear drums. Unless of course ESP was selected as an option, when rear discs are fitted. Pete
  15. Hi, Press the doorlock button on the inside of the drivers door when you set off. Probably not the answer you wanted, but at least it works!! Pete
  16. Hi, Well, until yesterday I had Goodyear NCT5's (original tyres) all round on my 2.0 Zetec Climate. After 30,200 miles, the fronts had worn down to 2.5mm so I took the car in to get new rubber on the front. As I have to use Kwik Fit (unfortunately) they didn't have the Goodyears in, so have put Michelin Primacy HP's on the front. Instantly the road noise from the previously front fitted Goodyears has been cut down. The grip so far (120 miles) seems about the same - pretty good. I just hope they wear as well as the Goodyears as I don't think 30k miles on the front is too bad!! (Rear
  17. When the 1.8 Petrol engined Foci first came out they had rear discs fitted. The spec was later changed and rear drums were then fitted. My sister in laws car has rear discs on her early 2006 1.8 petrol Focus (not ESP equipped). Pete
  18. Having looked at the pictures, not much seems to have changed, other than perhaps the dashboard with its new display. It will be interesting to see if some of the 'niggles' such as the postion of the handbrake care carried over to the new vehicle. Although as I believe there is to be no increase in price, it probably will be. Also as per the new c-max, what is the betting some of the kit currently fitted as standard become 'payable' options on the new model. One thing I do like the sound of though is the new 'semi automatic' gearbox (similar to the VW twin clutch DSG box) which will b
  19. Accoding to this weeks Auto Express, the line up will be: Studio Style Zetec Titanium No Ghia trim level is shown, although they do say there will be a lot of options available. Pete
  20. Hi, Mine came with a plastic cap fitted over the 12 socket. Ask Tezza for the part number and price. I cannot see it being very expensive. Pete
  21. I agree that in the Manual it doesn't say Estate Only, but has the words 'Power points are located in the centre console and in the luggage compartment (depending on equipment fitted)''. As I have only ever seen Power Points in the luggage compartments of Focus Estates, I guess the 'equipment fitted' bit means having an estate. Pete
  22. Hi, Reading in the Focus Owners Handbook, it actually says (in bold!) ''During Minor Collisions as well as overturns or rear or side collisions the front Airbag system will not be activated''. It goes on to say that 'The side Airbags are not activated upon minor lateral collisions nor upon front or rear impacts'' And further 'The curtain Airbags are not activated upon minor lateral collisions nor upon front or rear impacts' Therefore reading this, if you overturn your car the front airbags will not deploy and if it is front or rear impact, then your side/curtain airbags will also n
  23. I agree, I know Focez's car is not an LX, but it does make the front end look 'cheap' without the chrome. More agressive maybe, but cheap - yes Pete.
  24. If you are into washing and polishing your car then Panther Black is great. If not, it really does look crap when dirty (looking outside at mine now its covered in crap - ruddy weather!!). Sea Grey is a possible compromise, or Colorado Red if you want something bright (and if it is still available). Just my thoughts to help you on your choice. Pete
  25. The windscreen seal coming loose is a common problem. See: http://www.ffoc.co.uk/modules.php?name= ... windscreen Pete
