  1. That car did look pretty complete. I am patient and don't mind waiting 6 months or so, as I am perfectly happy with my current Mondy.
  2. Thanks thats useful. I was going to buy one before Xmas but as there is a new model in the offing I decided to hang on until it comes out. Hopefully they will have sorted the minor niggles on this one.
  3. I don't get to read the motor press very often but about 6 months ago the mags were showing sneak photos of a facelifted C-Max. Has there been any more recent updates ? Do we know when its starts production ?
  4. On that list I have driven all of them except the Volvo. I would go for the new Passat, the BMW or the Mondy. The BMW is actually about the same size as the Mondy and that has loads of room. The new Passat is very nice.
  5. Jet washes are not the whole answer, as they don't take all the muck off, you still have to rub it with a sponge or soft Brush. Even a hot water one, like those I used for hundreds of hours to clean lorries when I was younger is not perfect, as you still need to run something over it.
  6. Tmaxx, coz the brakes were on. Will a DVD really flatten a diesel battery ? My laptop will run one for a couple of hours on battery and a diesel battery must be a 100 times more powerful ? I would blame it all on the person who suggested the boot sale. :( :D
  7. Is there any mechanical problem on a Ford diesel that is not related to EGR valves ? It seems to cause a lot of different problems
  8. Alun S, yes you are right I am wrong, its two 1.6's TDCi's and a 1.8 lynx as well as the two 2.0 TDCi
  9. Isn't the 1.6TDCi now available in 3 different power ratings ?
  10. A pre-production model or a former Ford test car ? My cousin Mike bought one of these from a Ford dealer about 12 years ago fully knowing what it was. It was a late model Sierra Ghia with a few different bits on it and had done minimal miles. There was a metal plaque in the engine compartment that said Ford offered no warrantee on the car. He ran it for many years and was very happy with it.
  11. Agree, I know folks who have spent shedloads on repairs, for Range Rovers and TVR's, yet they go back and keep buying them. An aquaintance is coming up for his 20th Range Rover since they were first produced and loves them (and he pays the bills not a company)
  12. Maybe we can expect an improvement in the facelifted version ? Unlike some manufacturers Ford do address problems and the later cars are usually much better in tems of niggles.
  13. The experts say that it is more down to the thermal efficiency of a diesel rather than the construction of the engine. The modern diesels are actually worse than the older ones as they are getting progressively more efficient at turning the heat/pressure from the burning of the diesel into forward motion rather than heat. I am now on my 4th diesel and have used them all for the same long 75 minute drag to work for the last dozen years and each one has taken progressively longer to get up to temperature and has put out less heat through the heater as they have got more modern. My latest Monde
  14. I have never seen a diesel vehicle with one yet as most pumps are mechanical and not electric. Having said that with mechanical pump pressures now so high its only a matter of time before some sort of accident triggered pressure relief system is fitted, if indeed it isn't already.
  15. Similar for me with my Mondeo and no doubt when I change it for a C-Max soon, I will get the same degree of Micky taking. But just like you say, none of the Micky takers have driven the Mondeo so they don't know how good it is, and it will be the same for the C-Max, which I think is equally as competent going by the one I have test driven.
  16. Have had this problem myself recently at the roadside on a different car and even kicking it didn't loosen the rim. Then remembered a trick we used to use on lorries when I worked with them. You use the spare wheel as a battering ram by rolling it at the outside edge of the stuck wheel rim. Worked a treat and loosened it after about three bashes. You just have to be carefull to do it so that you don't hit the bodywork or so hard that it knocks the car off its jack
  17. Is the 2.0 TDCi in the C-max the same as the one in the Mondeo ? I have one of those, and owners experience widely differing fuel economy as well. For me I get 54mpg but do long journeys rarely less than an hour. Folks who only do shortish journies tend to get much worse numbers with the Mondy
  18. Bluemax, thanks that is very useful. I had intended to use the cheapest route to acquire the car that I could. I have a history of this. I bought a new unregistered Mondeo from a main dealer 330 miles away back in May but it saved me over a grand compared to to 20 plus quotes I had elsewhere including the pre-registered supermarkets, so it always pays to shop around, which is what I will do this time. Having seen all the photos of the facelifted C-max in the mags I am half tempted to wait until that comes along but there may well be some deals of the outgoing car so its a tough decision.
  19. Hi, I am a newbie, so be gentle I am looking to buy a new C-max. It will be one of the 1600 petrol versions as power doesn't interest me, I just want reliability. I know that there were a few technical issues with the first cars, but have things improved with the later cars ? What problems might I expect ? Roughly what economy can be exppected from a 1.6. Is it better or worse than the thirsty 1.8 ? What cars have the electric hand brake as I want to avoid one of those ? Pesmo
