  1. Both reversing lights are non functioning. Didn't think it would be both bulbs but replaced them anyway - it wasn't the bulbs. Is there a fuse for the reversing lights or is there a switch/actuator or similar that is activated when reverse is engaged? It is a 6 speed, 2.0 TDCi BTW. Any offers of help on this one?
  2. Agree that it should have lasted a lot longer but such is life. As another plus, the car is now ready at 12 noon. So I had it recovered in yesterday. Was inspected by 11 am and CRC offered goodwill by early afternoon. Ok'd this with the garage and they had it in as first job this morning. Glad I'm sitting down....

  4. I had a whole raft of electronic faults in my 04, 2.0 TDCi, that were finally sorted under warranty (just). Unfortunately they appeared again over the weekend, but of course they were attributed to something completely different - the alternator. 'That'll be £300 fitted sir' was the offer from Ford. I spoke to Ford CRC and within 30 minutes they came back with a 50% goodwill deal (the warranty ran out in June). I know a lot of people knock Ford and the CRC, but on this occasion, I was happy. Alternators are a consumable part and can go wrong at any time. Ford didn't have to give a goodw
  5. New fuse box fitted. Everything works. And all done under warranty (just!!) Anyone got any recommendations for after market warranties (just in case)?
  6. Finally the parts arrived for the faulty radio and door lock as per previously. Also mentioned (for the third time) the problems with the windows; alarm LED; flickering gauges etc. 'Could just be a fuse,' I said helpfully to the service desk guy. Arrive this evening to collect car and, wait for it, no car. Well not exactly 'no car' - more like no car electrics and no car moving today, thank you very much. 'What do mean?' I say, head in hands. 'Oh, they've been woking on it all day and it's a problem with the electrics.' The replacement radio module didn't cure all the problems and guess wh
  7. I reckon that it's overpriced (even with the extras) if it's the original CMAX rather than the new model. Got to be worth a haggle for at least £750 off that price - they're hardly in short supply. Good luck.
  8. Ringways in Leeds have the appropriate four wheel alignment gear. Approx £30 - 40 for the set up. Worth doing when you get a new set of boots.
  9. Did the same with my Ghia and unfortunately had to pay Fraud - but it was worth the £50!!!!
  10. Could it be something as simple as vibration from another component? Think exhaust heatshield; any one of the bits of plastic covering around the engine bay etc. If it always happens at the same engine revs no matter which gear you're in then it sounds (no pun intended) then this could be the problem. Does it behave in the same way if you rev the engine while stationary?
  11. Test probe, multi-meter - way beyond my sphere of knowledge - so I'll wait for the dealer to evaluate. I presume that they will check the fuses (well I like to think they'd start with the simple stuff!!!) as part of the diagnostics. Will blown fuses show on the Ford diagnostic machine?
  12. Thanks for the input. I'll let you know the outcome when the dealer sorts all the issues. BTW - is a 'brown out' something you suffer the morning after a particular;y hot curry...
  13. Thanks Nick. I have reset all the windows as per the manual (twice in fact and still no luck with global close). Even though it went back to the dealer yesterday they still haven't sorted the problem with no alarm led; no global close; windows can be operated with no key in ignition; guage needles flicker and do not reset to zero. Fortunately they have cleared the EPB failure messages etc. The service manager thinks that the replacement part for the Sony radio fix will cure all of this. We'll see if he's right or whether CFC's suggestion of a blown fuse is the cause. As an aside, I no

  15. Funny that my global close doesn't work either!!!! I'll ask them to check this out - although they seem to get a bit funny when you present them with info like this (I'm only trying to help make their lives easier). Thanks Martin
  16. Thanks CFC - I'll have a look tonight in advance of it going back to the dealer tomorrow. Can you remember which fuse or is that a long shot?
  17. Took my 04 2.0 TDCi for it's third service (car just under warranty). Other than a problem with the Sony CD/Radio where a new part is required all seemed fine until yesterday. Now I am getting the Limited EPB and Brake Failure message and the speedo and tacho guages seem to have a mind of their own - basically they flicker on start up and do not reset to zero when the engine is turned off. The garage has updated the ROM to 0425 from 0424. Anyone know of any issues that could have caused this (is Mastertech still online these days)?
  18. Sorry to hijack bobbyg but how much did you pay through auction for your car? (only so I can cry into my pint at the woeful residual value of my 04 2litre TDCi Ghia!)
  19. The aux socket takes a stereo jack plug (2.5mm I think). You can plug anything in through it (well maybe not a toaster but you get my point). We use if for a portable DVD player. The Sony system with the extra speakers is top notch and is well worth £200.
  20. Agreed - the 17s are certainly better to look at. I did 23,000 miles on the first set of Conti 2s - and swapped them front to back too. I think that's OK for a big car with an engine that'll spin the wheels in 2nd (3rd on wet day)!!!
  21. Bringing this back full circle to other original thread.... I have the optional 17" machined alloys on my TDCi Ghia (2004). Even thought they are subjected to the rigours of the local hand car wash they have resisted corrosion all round. The same can't be said of the pitted centre caps though, but hey, this is a family car and not a concourse winner. The ride is certainly firmer compared to the ride on the test drive car fitted with 16s. Would I fit them again on a new car. That really depends. On duff roads the ride can be quite coarse and you do get a bit of tramlining and there is proba
  22. It could it be the pads binding to the discs after getting wet. If you look at your discs after washing/raining you tend to get a small rust build-up which clears as soon as you use the brakes.
  23. You should try the 17" machined alloys that I've got on my Ghia - they really are a pain to clean. :x I bought a little alloy wheel cleaner brush (Asda or Halfords) that really does the business - but it still takes ages.
  24. You can get the rear headrest out but be prepared to struggle. I too had the same problem with a 'Jane' older child seat where the top of the seat would not sit properly because of the headrest. It took about five minutes, lots of swearing and levering to get the head rest off. It felt like I was going rip the seat from its mounting :x :x :x !!!! Not just a case of pushing the button as I first thought. Don't know why this was the case - maybe just a bad design?
  25. Excellent description. Don't fancy a guvvy job in Leeds do you by any chance??? If not - can you clarify what a trim tool is. I thought it was something used for maintaining ladies' gardens (if you know what I mean) - but I may be wrong.....
