  1. I suppose it depends on your journey types and driving style. I'm currently getting 54mpg commuting to work which is a 50 mile round trip up and down the A1. On longer trips the mpg increases. Thats in my 1.6 TDCI.
  2. I think Ford will most likely use time/distance servicing as they do now but just increase the intervals like Peugeot. I think the cost for variable servicing for Ford would be to expensive as it requires sensors/engine modifcations and hardware/software. Audi/VW and BMW use variable servicing which amongst other things takes in to account the amount of time driven when the engine is cold/warm and an oil opacity meter. My Audi A4 TDI went 30,000 miles between servicing which meant less trips to the dealers. On the other hand some cars need servicing at 8k miles, so the engine is serviced e
  3. Yes the threads are covered in paint and anti rust stuff. I used a flat head screw driver to scrape it off the top of the holes and then just screwed the bolts in.
  4. Long life servicing is the way forward. If most other makes can do it then so can ford. Zooky, my parents live in Spain near Toreveja, Valencia region and they had a c-max for the last 2 years. Where abouts are you?
  5. "Nope! Dealers depend too much on keeping the workshops full with cars in for service!" It hasn't stopped the likes of Renault and Peugeot... It can only be a matter of time, they're lagging behind all the competitors!!
  6. Will Ford ever move over to longlife servicing like Audi, BMW, Renault, Peugoet, VW etc and start using top quality fully sythentic oil ?
  7. Did a quick search on this... http://www.racq.com.au/cps/rde/xchg/rac ... A_HTML.htm
  8. The same diesel engines have longlife service intervals when fitted to Peugeot's and Castrol reccomend using Edge Turbo Diesel for those.....So should be fine for Fords TDCI's....
  9. "Includes nitrogen filling rather than normal air." What are the benefits of nitrogen?
  10. Sorry Bob, I take it back. I didn't read your post properly please accept my sincerest appologees. :)
  11. Yes Zooky It says 150,000 miles or 10 years in the service guide and the dealer confirmed this when I had mine replaced under warranty. Not sure why people are posting what "sounds about right" rather than the facts. Very misleading hearsay.
  12. The "dreaded pull away problem" and low mpg was easily cured on my c-max. 1) Replaced the air flow meter (did this my self) took 5 mins. 2) Cracked turbo pipe replaced, I have seen this on 5 x 1.6 TDCi's, and strangely it's not widely reported because it goes un noticed. Replaced on all 3 of ours. Currently returning 54mpg. Very happy with the 1.6 TDCI.
  13. There are plenty of people who are extremely happy with the service they receive from Ford me included, see Andys post above and many more on this forum. The difference in price (new) between a 1.8 Petrol Zetec and a 1.8 TDCI is £1500. The difference is probably alot less for used prices. Overall if you kept the car for a few years and do average mileage it makes financial sense to go for the diesel. Petrol only makes sense for a low mileage user who doesn't keep the car long.
  14. Ian, Both our c-maxes passed there MOT's without fault. I say again £149 annual service and £189 major service, bargain! I actually paid £149 for the last major service as they gave me a discount. All fully itemised billing. Ford parts are also cheap, just bough a new washer pump and motor for £16 !!! whizzpoppers on the whole are expensive to service, I've heard of people with corsa's that don't pay under £230 for a service and have had a 2nd year service costing £580. Anyway we're moving off the subject, go for the diesel !!!!! :)
  15. "Ford servicing is a rip off whichever car you have" ????? £149 annual service and £189 major service. Bargain compared to other makes. And just how is this a rip off Ian141? Cheap service and cheap parts. Take a look at Honda, or Audi service and parts costs!! Anyway go for the diesel, much better driveability especially on the motorway, the 1.6TDCI has loads more torque even more than the 2 litre petrol which = less gear changes. Or even better go for the 1.8 TDCI.
  16. Not heard of any turbo's going on c-maxes and it's rare for a EGR valve to go on the 1.6 TDCI. The main EGR faults are with the 2.0litre. "Cheaper servicing" Ford servicing cost the same for petrol or diesel.
  17. So you're looking at approx £1500 saving in fuel over the 5 years going by Andys calculations.
  18. A friend of mine was reccomended by the Ford dealer to buy a used petrol focus due to the low mileage he does. years later and over 100,000 miles later he in hindsight he should of bought a diesel. I would do a calculation of the number of miles you do a year and the number of years you will be keeping the car and compare both petrol and diesel cars. Apart from the better fuel consumption, diesels are better to drive beacsue of all the extra torque.
  19. Have a look at the car on the front page of the what car warranty site. http://www.whatcarwarranty.co.uk/whatca ... .html?wd=1 Interesting comments. Apart from captain slow they are all hearsay. The reviews on http://www.ciao.co.uk/warrantydirect_co_uk__5324754 sounded very positive, "worthy warranty" and "first class service". Your choice Andy
  20. peejay1977, can you expand on that for the benefit of everyone.
  21. Excellent engine, good fuel consumption and good power and torque. Very happy with both of ours. We had a slow pull away problem with one of ours which was caused by a cracked turbo pipe (design fault) which is very common, the new pipe has been redesigned to address the problem.
  22. 4 reviews on here http://www.ciao.co.uk/warrantydirect_co_uk__5324754 Both our cars are covered with warranty direct, never had to claim but the service is very clear with good communication. What Car magazine use warranty direct.
  23. I have part exchanged over 10 cars and the only thing that mattered to me was the amount I paid (the bottom figure). Dealers often meet the agreed price in many different ways and alter the figures to achieve this. I wouldn't call it fiddling. It's entirely up to them what they charge and what they give for a part ex.
  24. I like the Toyota Verso 180bhp 2.2 diesel 7 seater. Well put together, nice toys, and toyota reliability.
