  1. Can anyone recomend a tailgate mounted bike rack for my 07 focus. The only thing is i have fitted an ST spoiler so i dont want to damage the paint on it with the straps these bike racks seem to have.
  2. You can buy an adapter cable from FORDS, it was around £12 when i bought mine. It plugs into the rear of the CD player, and the jack socket end fits into a hole you need to drill in the glove box. IT SIMPLE TO DO, the hardest part is getting the radio out!!! Youll also need a lead to connect the IPOD to the newly installed socket in your glove box!!!
  3. Could be a dirty/clogged wheel sender but as you mention an other light coming on it may be a Dashboard problem, you can check if there is a DTC fault code(dash module) by Keeping the tripmeter reset button on the indicator stalk pressed in whilst you start the car (ie key in OFF position to START) keep the button pressed in until the LCD panel says test mode or something similar. then every press of the button does a test. the one your looking for is DTC code. if you have a DTC code(s) then a quick google of DTC codes will tell you what they mean.
  4. thanks chaps, found a place, local too me and i am going to get the sime side rear wheel done too, so that way any colour mismatch wont show!.....the reason i asked was the rim diamond cut, is that its a different finish, more reflective, perhaps its just polished more!!
  5. Heres the damage to my N/S/F road wheel when it had a battle with a kerbstone during the icy period. What do you learned chaps reckon, is it repairable to a good standard, and also are these rims what is known as a "diamond cut finish" on the outer rim.
  6. squealing is probably the AUX belt, mine does it too, my last focus did it as well, a little WD40 sprayed onto it quietens it down for a while.
  7. 5.98 inc VAT and Lamp for a new unit from FORDS mate, so not going to break the bank, but IT doesnt include the black plastic shield thing, so dont throw it away, but id like to know where else the water is collecting! It looks to me as though it getting in via the tailgate pull trim. I did think of the earlier rear wiper problem of letting in water, but as mines an 07 it "should" have the modified washer thingy fitted.
  8. Just have a check over the car tonight and noticed one of the rear number plate lmaps was out, upon closer inspection.....BOTH lamps had a brown sludge inside. As i took both lamps out i found that one one a contact had correded badly and fell to pieces as i examined it, and the other one wasnt far behind. the corrosion had covered the inside of the lens with a brown rusty sludge as in the PIC, Not sure what has caused this but it doesnt look like water ingress from the tailgate itself, but it may be water ingress from the plastic handle moulding, i intend to have a better look in the dayligh
  9. Dug out the Haynes today and was pleased to see that the rear wheel bearings cant be changed individually, but have to be changed as a complete HUB unit.........excellent news more parts expense!!!! NOT
  10. My Focus has DRUM brakes at the rear, and it sounds like a rear bearing is on its way out, Partly (i think) my fault due to an icy skid into a kerb, BUT does anyone know if the bearings are the same as the old shape focus, ie the whole assembly comes away with the drum, and pretty simple to change?.......Also are MK2 rear bearings as prone to failure as the MK1's were, because if so i may just try my luck and get i done under warranty
  11. I found it hard to believe that they would base it on the mondeo, and i may have read into it wrong, but i have found it and it reads "the car is believed to be based on the FWD platform from the mondeo, to ensure class leading handling and increased space"
  12. I read on Auto Express that its based on the MONDEO floorpan is this correct :)
  13. Can anyone recommend a good alloy wheel refurber, preferably in mid cheshire area....I need one of my 17" Sportpack wheels sorting after an argument with ANOTHER kerb!!! . Also has anyone any experience of alloy wheel refurbers and some tips on what to look out for etc etc. I only need one doing so im hoping they can match the colour of the other wheels as i dont want them to look odd, Otherwise i will get the two done at the same time (same side that is)
  14. I have an 07 1.8 (125hp) and i agree with the last chap, the car only starts performing after 3000rpm. and has a really high final drive ratio which doesnt suit motorway driving. economy isnt great and averages around 30-33mpg on mainly around town and a bit of motorway. The upside is though that it after 3000rpm it pulls like a train!!!! but diesel sounds like the best option for your situation.
  15. I will be thinking about an induction kit im april when the warranty is up on mine. I had good results with a 57i kit on my old EFI xr3i. but that didnt have a choking catalytic converter fitted, So i will be doing some homework before forking out on one. Has anyone fitted one to the 1.8 HE yet
  16. no visible signs of damage to the rim, but im going to jack the car up and check its notbuckled etc etc. Cheers
  17. Had a minor excursion into a kerbstone yesterday, The rear end slid into it and it was quite a jolt, but as far as i can see all looks to be ok, But there seems to be what i can only describe as a "rear wheel bearing starting to go" noise coming from the rear of the car. Obviousley with the weather, i havent had a chance to jack the car up and have a detailed exmination, BUT is it feasible that i could have damaged the rear wheel bearing when i hit the kerb? The service is due in a few weeks so, I will be getting a 4 wheel allignment check done at the same time (£70  )
  18. OBviousley in this lovelly weather we are having the ABS keeps kicking in, is it just me or does anyone else HATE the noise it makes, it really feels as though there are no pads left in the calipers to me  Can anyone explain to me in semi technical terms, what and how it is that makes that horrible grinidng noise. :?:
  19. welcome to FORD world mate, MOST dealers (NOT ALL i hasten to add) are like this, Once they have your hard earned cash, they dont give a toss! and as you have learnt there is no respect for your car whatsoever. there are exceptions however, but FOUR out of FIVE of my local dealers are awful!!
  20. yes chaps youre spot on with the lower profile of the tyres to suit the overall diameter. but if thats not taken into account, as happens sometimes. it makes the gearing change, hence in the rusty days of Mk4 escorts you could buy a different speedo driven gear. And Im also not 100% sure that the bigger wheel/tyre package on my focus has the same rolling circumference as when it was built (my sport pack was fitted at dealers) and therefore if ETIS is to be belived (etis says my focus has the same FD ratio as other petrol focus's) the bigger cicumference has changed the gearing slightly, HOWEV
  21. Youd be suprised how many people i know who fit these huge aftermarket wheels or bigger ford wheels, without giving the speedo calibration a thought!!!
  22. Dont forget to think about how much the new 18" wheels will increase your gearing. I have the 17" sport pack wheels and they make it really short legged, ie higher RPM's per mph eg at 70mph my rpm's are around 3200, which makes thirsty on motorways etc etc, THATS IF ETIS can be believed which tells me i have the same FINAL DRIVE RATIO gearbox as other focus's.....im still not convinced, i suspect i have a different ratio. I have the 1.8 engine BTW!! Obviousley the lower profile the tyres the better in terms of gearing etc.
  23. any more pics mate, or can you describe the exact area to check........Good old ford and rust, still going hand in hand!
  24. thats sound advice to keep away from anything from HONG KONG on EBAY, you would be suprised at the amount of copied goods there are out there. My DAFT brother-in-law decided to buy a NINTENDO DS from there (against my advice), because it was cheaper, but it turned out to be a fake copy!!! . the same applies to nintendo WII's. So id be very very weary about anything form that neck of the woods on EBAY!!!
  25. I wonder what FORD would say if you took it back and told them, i mean you'd soon say somthing if the landlord only gave your 3/4 of a pint. I have often wondered this about my 1.8 as it runs like a bag o' * * * * sometimes pinking and stuttering. I would imagine they would say the same thing as your tuner!!! and does it anywhere in the manual explain that max power will not be reached until engine is bedded in. It will be interesting to see if anyone has done the airbox mod too. I know many people used to do it to MFI XR3's.
