  1. Because of rear facing baby seats. If you don't turn the airbag off and you crash there's a high chance of decapitation. I kid you not.
  2. Nice! Would love to know what mine's putting out. Can't afford the spare cash though, costs me enough to run the bloody thing! Would you get it remapped when you've fitted the mods?
  3. Thanks for that, makes perfect sense.
  4. I meant when cruising at motorway speeds. At 70 my 1.6 was showing 3.5k revs, and it's just under 3k on my 2.0.
  5. Having gone from the 1.6 to a 2.0 I have to say I think the 1.6 is too underpowered in a heavyish car like the mk2. My fuel economy in the 1.6 was worse as I had to rev the nuts off it just to make any progress.
  6. I've got a bog standard 2.0 zetec and I commute about 65 miles each day and get around 39-40mpg. Have you had it serviced recently?
  7. But you shouldn't need to calibrate your speedo, when fitting larger wheels you fit tyres with a lower profile. The wheel size itself has no bearing on your gearing, it's the total diameter (wheel and tyre) which would effect this.
  8. No. Not sure what else I can add to that!
  9. Surely you should make sure that the rolling radius is the same??!! Otherwise your speedo will be out.
  10. You must have a good deal going on with the ford dealer if you could get it cheaper there. The last time I got anything done at ford it was £80 p/h!!
  11. Sounds like alternator/fanbelt problems.
  12. Driving to my parents is a 400 mile round trip, which I do every few months. No problems, my 2.0 is much better than my old 1.6, and somehow my fuel consumption is better as well!!
  13. I had to take mine off when my washer bottle filter got blocked up. Pretty easy to do, it's exactly as you say; take the wheel off and take the screws out. Get the new one in place and put the screws back in. Should only take 15-20 minutes, though if you've got mudflaps you'll have to get a new clip from ford, though I've not got one yet and it still holds on fine.

  15. Very nice, I do prefer the look of the mk2.5. How are you finding the 1.6?
  16. 1.6 (110) Diesel stats (taken from parkers) Engine Size 1560 cc Cylinders 4 0-60 mph 10.6 s Power Output 107 bhp Valves 16 Torque 260 Nm 192 lb-ft Top Speed 117 mph CO2 Emissions 127 g/km Road Tax Band D MPG 58 1.8 Diesel stats Engine Size 1753 cc Cylinders 4 0-60 mph 10.5 s Power Output 113 bhp Valves 8 Torque 280 Nm 207 lb-ft Top Speed 119 mph CO2 Emissions 137 g/km Road Tax Band E MPG 54 The 1.6 is only slightly less powerful than the 1.8, yet has better mpg and a lower tax band. Your dad's buying a diesel, I don't think he has to worry about
  17. What year did they change the specs, such as getting rid of the ghia? I'm only going on the pre 07 specs because those are all I've owned, and I'm pretty sure you had to have a zetec climate to get aircon.
  18. Sounds like you're on the money with the zetec climate, ok it's got the sportier suspension (apparently) but it's still uber comfortable, and has what he needs (aircon, heated windscreen and mirrors, front fogs). Not sure about the diesels as I've got a petrol one, but if you can find a 2.0 oil burner go for that, purely for the 6 speed gearbox. I'm sure somebody else on here can tell you about the diesels more than I can (2.0 petrol ftw!).
  19. Is the clutch in the focus self adjusting? I have a 2.0l petrol if that makes any difference? Cheers.
  20. Yeah there was a 1.4 78bhp one. POWER!!! :P
  21. You get a slight 'kick' at around 3000 rpm in the 115 as the other cam timing kicks in, don't think you get this in the 100bhp one. Anyway I had a think back to my 1.6 and think I was a bit harsh. It does move, you just have to push it a bit harder than a bigger engine, but you'll still have loads of fun. Plus it sounds good at 6000 rpm!!
  22. Well it sounds like you've definitely made the right call!
  23. I think 70 is just over 3000 rpm in my 2.0l, I think it was around 3500 in my 1.6. I think as you say it all comes down to the mk2 being quite a bit heavier. craigc_foci Sorry don't mean to make you feel bad, I think this topic has gone off on a tangent! But in answer to your question I would say you will notice it, you're going to a less powerful car. If it were devil fuel I think you'd get away with it. At least it's still a focus!
  24. Totally disagree with this. I've just gone from a 1.6 to a 2.0 (both petrol) and I get far better mpg out of my new car. I don't think the gearing is any different, but as has been said you have to work the 1.6 pretty hard to get anywhere. Just my 2 pence.
