  1. Have been looking else where on the FFOC forum and can only find info on blanking the early TDI engines and not the TDCI ones that are fitted to the C-Max. I am not even sure where the EGR valve is on our 1.6 TDCI
  2. I was talking to a mate who is also an Auto Electrician but a specialist in electronics so can look at the fault codes, diagnose problems, fix ECUs, test & fix modules etc.... I asked him about EGR valves and how expensive they are to replace and that they seem to be a bit fragile. His response was you do not need it! He says that it depends on the valve design, but on some you take the valve off, remove the gasket, make a copy of the gasket out of steel but without the hole for the valve and then put the EGR valve over the bit of steel. The ECU is happy because it thinks that the va
  3. Ours happened twice on a Saturday. Stopped using car as we had another we could use. Took it to Ford on the Tuesday and it was running OK. They still were able to diagnose the EGR valve :D So as long as you get your car to Ford ASAP you should be OK.
  4. Wonder who you will be calling when they open in the morning  As soon as our car was at the Ford dealer they diagnosed the EGR very quickly.
  5. This is exactly how our EGR valve behaved when it went on our 1.6TDCI. It felt like the turbo had been turned off. Plus it would not rev above 3000rpm and there were NO warning lights on the dash. I stopped it, left it 15 mins and it was OK again. EGR valve was replaced by Ford under warranty and it has been fine since :D
  6. the steel pipe infront of the rubber hose is split near the bracket (on the weld) and will need replacing with a modified part. this week we have seen 4 in 2 days with this fault, ours were all focus estate cars, but same on cmax its NOT the turbo I have noticed that I have this leak. Is it TSB 13/2005 Or another TSB? Looks OK to change DIY, any idea of the pipe cost? Any ideas on cost & TSB no? Andy Any ideas on cost & TSB no?
  7. Could be a faulty tyre :!: Or could the disk is warped and catching in one place, but I would think that you would feel that under braking? If you have a DECENT tyre place near you I would ask them. I do know that our car had Contis on all round and they wore unevenly and tyre dealer said that Contis do that on most cars. We had Marshalls fitted all round and did not have tracking etc checked and the Marshalls have worn perfectly. HTH Andy
  8. You can not say that all Ford garages are rubbish. There are some good ones. Swanscombe Ford near Newton Abbot, Devon were amazing. Polite, explained everything to me and they even did the Voltage reset with out being asked. Plus £30 cheaper than Guildford dealer :D Only problem, is that in order to use them I need to go holiday as I live in Surrey :? Does anyone know any good Ford dealers near Guildford, Surrey or Horsham, West Sussex? If not I will be going to a garage on the good garage scheme. There are 3 within 3 miles of my house
  9. They now use a so called SMART charging system! It is supposed to only produce the actual power the car needs so getting the maximum MPG and less emmisions. I imagine that as this is a new(ish) technology it is more fragile than a standard alternator  I guess that there must also be some ECU controlling the charging, so that will be something else to go wrong :( Is it effecting all the C-Max's or like the EGR valve, is it preying on the 2.0 TDCI
  10. Interesting. The Turbo seems to one of the things that the C-Max does not have a problem with
  11. I worked out that in 2 years of C-Max ownership we saved over £1500 in fuel. Our Diesel cost us £500 more than an 1800 Petrol that garage was also selling. So we are £1000 better off plus we are still saving 8) We do about 12,000 miles a year. I only do about 4-5K miles a year and would plan to keep the car for about 5 years. So the overall millage is never going to be high. That why i was thinkg about the 1.8 Petrol but everyone keeps suggesting the diesels. At that low milage a petrol is probably a better option. But I would drive both. I could not believe how much nicer the

  13. I beleive that the pollen filter is behind the glovebox on a C-Max.

  15. I take seats out of cars, strip them down, have the cover mended and then put it back together and it is nowhere near as expensive as £200  Where abouts in the country are you? If near Surrey I can look at this for you. I am far cheaper than Ford! ANd as a trim man & auto electrcian this job is right up my street.
  16. Interesting comments. It looks more & more likley we will not take out an extended warranty.
  17. I think this depends on your car as ours does not have this noticable 1700rpm flat spot. It did when we first got it, but at the 2nd service the software was upgraded and the flat spot disapeared :D
  18. We have had the same model for over 2 years and we think it is rather nippy :D Even when fully loaded for camping with roof box, bikes & trailer it still goes well. Even towed a 1200KG caravan with out any issues. Andy P.S. Ours is a 5 speed manual Thanks for the reply I take it then you have no issues with the power when pulling out of junctions/rounderbouts then? Not at all. Like all cars, if you give too low amount of revs it will bog down or stall. But I drive loads of cars in my work and the C-Max is no worse or better than any other car.

  20. We had the EGR valve done in the Spring. But I think we may have been unlucky as most faulty EGR valves do seem to be with 2.0 TDCI's and ours is a 1.6 TDCI.
  21. I have been quoted £270 or £22.50 a month for an extended warranty from Warranty Direct. This has the added extra that covers emmisions and air bags, this is good because the EGR valve is included in this extra cover. Do I take out the warranty? How good are Warranty Direct? What are they like for paying out claims? Andy
  22. Don't discount the C-Max because of one car. Any idiot from any dealer, be it Audi or Austin could fit the wrong spark plugs. Andy
  23. Standard practice. And as RTV says, it is the bottom line price that you pay that matters.
