  1. Couldn't this be the old stuck EGR valve problem ? Don't they get gummed up with crap. I think someone said there was a Ford TSB for that ? If you know where the EGR valve is, next time it won't start give it a gentle tap with a hammer or something solid. This has been known to temporaily move it enough to start the car. Have a look in the archive as I think it covers this somewhere recently
  2. I have a similar problems with my Caterham. Whenever I floor it, there is often a gasp or a shriek from the vicinity of the passenger seat :hearts
  3. Its a real shame that Ford don't do cruise the same way as whizzpopper, where you can add it to a Vectra for about £25 as its coded into all the cars and you just fit a replacement steering wheel stalk with an extra button
  4. SallyAnn, be very careful of the websites. Some have some very small print that mentions the vehicles are pre-registered and that you would technically be the second owner even though they have less than 10 miles on the clock. TDCi's should be capable of more than 40 mpg in mixed driving and just over 50 if you do all long journeys, some though have had some issues with the mpg. Short journaies around town will always hit the mpg and less than 40 can be expected in any car.
  5. While on the subject does anyone use the Ford removable bar ? Can someone tell me if it involves a bumper cut ? Secondly how does the removal mechanism work on the ford bar? Do you just take out a couple of pins or does it fold ?
  6. Although I don't have a link, a German speaking petrolhead friend tells me one of the German mags, Auto Bild, is reporting that the C-max 4x4 's that have been in the photos won't break ground as a C-max, but as a new 'crossover' car towards the end of 2007, that will share a substantial part of its running gear with the new land-Rover Freelander which comes out at the end of this year. Apparently they also believe that the C-Max is to still get a facelift not disimilar to those photos seen on the Channel 4 web page, but a 4x4 is unlikely. Seems strange to do all that work and then not fit i
  7. Sounds like stpete has the best machine for the job. The lab machines measure the boiling point as well. The Castrol fluid scientist explained to me that while there are other ways to measure effectiveness, the only real reliable way is to use a machine that boils it
  8. Max, Yes Silicon is available but it has a couple of problems that means that it has not got wider useage. Firstly it tends to give a slighty spongy pedal and to get round this the brake systems need to be of a slightly different design. The car manufacturers have been reluctant to make this investment. Secondly when 98% of all the other fluids sold are the conventional type then there is a real risk that someone will mix Silicon and conventional and they are not compatable. Having said that if the system is properly designed and you can guarentee that no other fluid is used then it is wort
  9. One little trick that I use after years of changing truck wheels is how to remove a stuck one. It works just as well on cars, and that is to use the spare wheel as a battering ram and trundle it at some speed, to impact squarely against the outer edge of the wheel being removed. It works much better than trying to kick it off when you don't have a mallet. The angle of the blow on the stuck wheel seems to be more advantageous this way. Obviously you need to take care to make sure the jack is secure AND that you don't bash the bodywork. I will admit to never have never tried it with a space sav
  10. There has been a debate about this for some years. There is no doubt that a lot of fluid gets changed unecessarily, however, there are incidents every year where old brake fluid causes accidents. The problem is predicting when a car should have a change and that has been difficult and some manufacturers have gone for 2 years but some say this is too soon and 3 years or 60k would be better. I took part in a largish brake fluid survey with Castrol a couple of years ago and they found that of all cars tested, 20% had fluid that needed changing immediately because it was considered dangerous an
  11. Nice to see the S-max as well. It doesn't look much smaller than the Galaxy does it ?
  12. Victor, that doesn't matter, its the first Galaxy I have seen anyway in road legal trim. Thanks for posting it
  13. That looks more like the new Galaxy. There looks to be another one behind it.
  14. Have a look at the other threads in recent months. Flat batteries are very common and various fixes are mentioned
  15. Is the EGR valve easy to get to on a C-Max ? When people have troubles with them sticking in the Mondeo Diesels as its at the front of the engine at the top and easy to get at , they usually give it a bash with something heavy and it clears. Is the Max the same ?
  16. After much web searching I have found where this came from. It has been photoshopped, but the rest of the photos indeed show that its an active project and these have not been messed with. http://www.worldcarfans.com/spyphotos.c ... ss-country
  17. Hans Lehmann enjoys a great reputation though for sneak photos and he has built his career on them through his worldwide contacts near the test tracks and routes. Having said that, as you say Ucsman there is something strange about the look of the rear end.
  18. Its a bigger facelift than I think was anticipated. If you compare it to the earlier scoop photos on the Channel 4 page then the bonnet line has been raised because the front quarter lights are a different shape. Could this mean a new engine or have they done it just to squeeze in the 4wd ?
  19. Presumably this is normally done so you can leave dog/cat/kids in the car ?
  20. My dads mate who is 81, has got a 2 year old type-R which he loves ! He tells me he is going to the dealer next week to look at a new Civic but isn't sure he likes the look of it so might go for a Golf GTi or the new sporty Focus :)
  21. For me its the height thing. With a couple of aged parents who don't like getting 'down' into a car, with a max its the right height to start with.
  22. Don't they now do a taller Golf like the Max ? Personally I think the Golf horrendously overpriced for what it is
  23. Andytran, What your post does do is give some hope to those who are not getting anything like this economy and are at their wits end. :sofa
