  1. My car's just been back to the dealer to check the poor MPG, but they didn't bother to check the intercooler as far as I'm aware. In fact I think they just connected it to the computer, and because it all checked out ok, they said it was fine. I'll ask them to check the intercooler when it goes back for the recall work.
  2. Looks like mine will one of those to be recalled - it's an 06 plate, and built shortly before june 06. Pity there's not a recall for poor mpg.
  3. Do you mean 1.8 Petrol or 1.8 TDCi? Not heard any problems with the petrol engines, except poor MPG.
  4. I bought the replacement rubbers off ebay. They were fairly easy to fit, once I'd managed to get the wiper end caps off, that is. The wiping is now much improved - no streaking, but the main wiper judders very slightly, so I might have to trim a bit off the end of the rubber, as it may be slightly too long.
  5. There are plenty of aftermarket child mirrors you can buy anyway.
  6. I asked about that when I bought my Zetec, but the dealer said it was wasn't that easy a job, as the ceiling material needs to be cut back to fit it.
  7. Someone needs to come up with a connector that plugs into the lead between the EGR valve and the ECU which simply passes through a 'EGR Valve OK' message, but keeps the valve closed.
  8. Those warranties are normally not worth it. Warranty companies will generally try to get out of paying a claim if they can.
  9. So folding the seat up, moving it towards the boot, then folding it back down again, giving it a bit of a slam doesn't work? I do have to quite forcefully push the middle seat down to get it to click into place. The seats are removable, might be worth removing the middle seat so you can properly have a look at the fixings to see if there's any way to mend them.
  10. I've not seen this problem on mine. My car does have the sliding rear outer seat system though, does yours?
  11. The Sale Of Goods act says that any faults within six months of purchase of a car from a dealer are considered to have been present when you originally bought the car, unless the dealer can prove otherwise. The dealer must sort the problem out.
  12. The steering in my C-Max started making grinding noises a couple of months back. Turns out to be a known problem, they replaced some steering parts (twice, as they didn't fix it the first time  ), and it's fine now. All done under warranty.
  13. Did the dealer apply an ecu update when they changed the EGR valves? Allegedly there's an update which goes with the new valve, which cycles it when the ignition is turned on. if that's not applied then that may explain why you've had so many problems.
  14. 64.9mpg for me on one motorway trip. (1.8TDCi) Not managed to get that much since, but recently achieved 60mpg on a run driving at approx 50-60mph, with a fully loaded car while coming back from holiday. Nowhere near as good around town, though.
  15. I complained about my C-Max's aircon temperature when it had its first service, but the service guy was adamant that it was within the right temperature range. I have to have the air-con on full for it to have any effect. My friend's Pug 307 goes freezing cold on full.
  16. Thanks, I'll take a look and see if there's any obvious fittings I can tighten.
  17. I think it's the dealers more than the car. I love the car, but my local dealer gave me less than sterling service when it went in for a warranty fix. They've gone out of business now, I wonder why?
  18. I don't think the 1.8TDCi is affected either, at least it's not affected my 1.8TDCi (touch wood), which is over a year old and travelled 15,000 miles. It does a mix of town and motorway driving. I believe EGR valves are more prone to stick if you're doing short trips where the engine never gets warm enough to burn off any deposits. Their purpose is to pump dirty exhaust gases back into the engine, so it's not surprising they can get gummed up if they don't get cleaned by a good blast down a motorway.
  19. I find the rear visibility in the C-Max to be quite poor, with its small rear window and thick pillars, so the reversing sensors are a boon. They're also very good at telling you if someone walks behind your car, as often happens when reversing in supermarkets. My wife would find it very difficult to park the car without them.
  20. I also have an intermittent dashboard rattle. Seems to happen only at certain temperatures. I also have an annoying squeaky rattle when someone sits in the rear left passenger seat when its slid all the way back. The seat tray on the drivers seat of my car has started rattling, I think because my daughter has kicked it more than a few times. I can stop it by putting a cloth or something between it and the seat, but does anyone know of a more permanent fix?
  21. My C-Max needs new front tyres, the tread level is approaching the level of the tyre wear indicators. The car has only done 14,500 miles! My local tyre place recommended vredestein tires, but that's nearly £150 for two, inc. balancing. The Conti premium contact IIs are even more expensive.
  22. Sorry I don't know the TSB. The mechanic admitted on the phone there's a TSB when I queried why they hadn't fixed the problem properly, but he didn't say what the number was. I believe it affects standard Focuses as well.
  23. From what I understand (they didn't give me any paperwork!) they actually replaced some suspension parts on my car to fix the groaning issue.
  24. I had the groaning noise, and it turned out to be the suspension and steering bushes. There's a TSB about it allegedly. It was fixed under warranty, but it took the dealer two attempts to get it right. They've now gone out of business. I wonder why?
