  1. Hi Smoggy, and a Happy New Year. My 1.8 Zetec is 9 months old, and after 5,500 miles is doing very well. There are some small niggles, but I've posted several notes about most of them. My main problem is the dealer, although to be fair after my last discussion with the sales manager and service department I said I would wait until they had more experience of working on the car before I took it in for any more work to be done. It's not had a hard time with me, and in return it gives me a comforable ride with reasonable economy (not sure about the trade in value, though) and I'm happy with i
  2. I think the early (2003.5?) models had the smoker's pack fitted, and it became an option on the 2004MY The lid on my ashtray spends most of it's life under the seat because every time I use the car charger for my phone the lid falls off. It's hinged, not sliding as yours appears to be. Happy New Year to you all. I won't be stopping online all night but there's nothing on telly at the minute and my wife is doing a bit of ironing, so I thought I'd see who was online. vitrocmax
  3. MUNGOJAY, you mention road noise, which I assume to be tyre noise. One of the first things I noticed, as Roland does, is that the car is quiet at motorway speeds and if the road surface is smooth it's very quiet. On normal round town driving I haven't found any surface which prevents me listening to the radio. Which wheels do you have? I would expect that may make a difference, but I only have experience of the standard fit Zetec 16" alloys. vitrocmax
  4. Hi sparkypete, I notice this is your first post, so welcome to the C-Max section of the forum. Your issue has been discussed (but not resolved) here, so you are not alone. Maybe someone has an update on this? vitrocmax
  5. I haven't done the 'test' yet, but I do have an observation that some of you may like to check. I've just done a 3 day trip to North wales that involves the M62, M60 and M56, then A55 to Colwyn Bay. About 120 miles or so. I decided to reset my trip meters (fuel and average speed) as I joined the motorway, and the first thing I noticed as I reset the avg speed was that, although I was doing an indicated steady 70, the average speed was 64. I speeded up to an indicated 76, and reset the computer, which then showed 70. Has anyone else tried this? Sorry Gavin, it's not a post hijack, but I th
  6. I usually run the A/C for a few minutes each week if I haven't used it for demisting. If I'm sat in a queue of traffic (make that 'when' ) I let it run. I don't know if it's the best time, but my thoughts are that if I'm using petrol and going nowhere than I won't use as much extra fuel as when I'm needing power to move the car. Probably no difference, but I like the science bit. My PT Cruiser was a thirsty car, low 20s usually, and I didn't use the A/C in 2 years, apart from the few times I needed the demister (it wouldn't turn off like the C-Max does). I didn't have the advi
  7. I've just posted in another thread about wanting a heated screen on my next car. It's not just for demisting, there's been a few icy mornings recently and the windscreen's a huge area to clear. :( A lot of the Zetecs on offer from dealers have been fitted with (usually) two options, one is usually metallic paint and the other is either heated front screen or parking sensors, according to a dealer I spoke to recently. Gavin, I've also posted here with my thoughts on the screen misting up. Happy Christmas, everyone. :D vitrocmax
  8. There are lots of companies who do the privacy thing using film - there's one in the 'discounts' section here. It's easy to do a bad job so I'd try asking about them first. I have seen prices around 250 - 300 pounds for a full set. I don't know how well they work on the rear doors, with the opening and closing, but they should be available from Ford (at great expense) As for me, I've decided that if I get another Ford it will at least have a heated windscreen, if it doesn't have any other extras. Happy Christmas vitrocmax
  9. So you're getting a digital camera for Christmas? :D I'll echo Gavin - Happy Christmas everyone. vitrocmax
  10. I've noticed that if I leave the air direction dial set to 'windscreen' the misting up when the car is parked up is worse than if I have it on down/centre settings. I try remember to move the dial before I leave the car. I think that the 'stationary' airflow is sufficient to cause a problem and directing it away from the screen helps. :? The PT Cruiser I used to have (here I go again - but it did have some good features!) was the fastest clearing screen I have seen, in almost all conditions. If the screen was misted I would estimate 6-10 seconds would clear it. I think 6-10 minutes would be
  11. It's been covered here It's in amongst the off topic discussions  vitrocmax
  12. Hi luisafonso, welcome to the C-Max section of the ffoc forum. As you may have discovered, we had a major issue from 'external forces' that has left us without the last 10 days of postings. It's not just yours that has gone. If you had the unit installed by 'authorised service', can't you ask them to fix it? Does the unit work OK apart from the message? I don't have the Sony unit but I'm sure you will get a response from someone who does. vitrocmax
  13. TDCIGHIA, is that why the service from my dealer wasn't up to much, because I got a good deal on the price? Maybe next time (if there is a next time with them) I'll give them more money and see if I get a better service. With insurance, we only find out how good the service is when we need it. If we don't have a claim to test the service, we only have the experience of others to help choose. So far I've not had any alarm bells against Churchill. :?
  14. I tried confused.com and it does what it says in the name! :? I expected a question about my inside leg measurements, it went into such detail about things that most of the other sites didn't ask for. :? I ended up totally confused when it gave a list of quotes, and the best one I'd had so far (more than) declined to quote!. A click on the 'reason' button suggested I might be better going elswhere, because it 'didn't think they would be competitive'. :? I still couldn't better it (but that was for my wife's Fiesta) so we went with more than anyway. :) One thing that doesn't mak
  15. Remotes for the Mondeo sometimes come up on eBay - as long as it's got the flat key it should be OK. One went for about £30 a couple of weeks ago. I intend to replace the radio at some point and will, like you, have to ask the dealer to remove it unless I buy a set of removal keys. The clock resetting I referred to was the one when it goes wrong - not resetting to the correct time. :? Sorry if I misled you there, it's done it twice in the last three days :x so I don't bother using it to tell the time. I have a cheap (£1.99) stick on clock I got from a local cheap shop which hasn't gon
  16. Hi 2 ltr GHIA inc., and welcome to the forum. The clock fault, mentioned regularly, is when the clock just shows completely the wrong time and doesn't correct itself with the RDS. How it gets to the wrong time is not always clear, but ours usually resets itself to 00:00 when the radio is switched on without the ignition being on. It's done it a dozen times or so since we got the car in April. I've got to get it in to the dealer for some bits of warranty work, and the clock 'fix' is one of them. I figured that the longer I left it before taking it in the better, because the dealer would h
  17. I remember a thread on a Galaxy forum that moaned about the cost of the wipers. They are more expensive for the Gal because they are both the same size (26", I think) and eBay was a popular choice to buy them. I mentioned the point about pulling the end cap off to replace the blade and got a few replies to the effect that it wasn't the best idea, or something like that. Maybe the galaxy drivers were a bit heavy handed. I've rung a couple of local parts places to see if they stock the Bosch Aerotwin, and they hadn't even heard of them! What I had planned on doing was trying a longe
  18. Maybe now the 'new' focus is getting closer to the showrooms Ford have decided to make the badged parts fit either? The letters aren't in the old 'focus' lower case font, but in the C-MAX and new model capitals. I can't remember what's on my boot mat and there's a washing machine in there (it's been there for the past week because I can't get it out, and it'll stay there until it's sold!) so I can't check it. I'm sure it says 'FOCUS C-MAX' all in caps but I'm often wrong these days...
  19. They do look much better than my repeaters. I've not really taken much interest in changing them to the better looking alternatives, or even getting the Silvertecs I was saving up for. I decided that since I wasn't looking at them so often (they don't stick out like the 'sore thumb' originals) I wouldn't benefit from the change. :| The new Focus is most likely going to have the same ones as I have. The reason for the fit of the Galaxy repeaters is because they are probably VW parts, as the Gal is a Sharan with better badges (AFAIK). :?
  20. I think the gap is there to help the winding motors. If the seals are dry there is a lot of force needed to overcome the friction of the glass against the seal. No gap, no friction. I have green algae growing on the seals, and also along the bottom of the small windows. It must get missed when I wash the car, so next time I'll have to get a brush into the gap and clean it.
  21. Gavin, who are you asking for a pic? Harisma67 has listed the same part number that I fitted further back in the thread. Moondust's Fiesta option is exactly the same, that's where my dealer found the part number. The VW parts you have quoted are what I was told was the same as the Galaxy (same car, different badge) and they are slightly different fitting, as ortho mentions. There are some very expensive options available from the aftermarket specialists, at about £18 or so a pair, not always including bulbs. I haven't got silvertecs yet, and it may be cheaper to throw the Ford ones away
  22. Someday I will be taking my car in to be looked at. Rather than pester them I thought I'd wait until there has been sufficient time to get some fixes sorted so they can do them all. The hesitation is still there, but I tend to drive a little more aggressively now since the fuel economy is better than I expected, and it's not noticeable if I use a lead boot. I think I'm getting mid 30s, but I don't do much motorway driving. I will be tonight, when I'm off to the airport for my 'winter sun' holiday. :) :D 4,500 miles on, I'm still happy with the car overall. I hope your 'keen deal' isn't
  23. The RDS ON/OFF is just after the 12/24 hour setting; if you can set the clock manually then it's not on RDS. The display shows 'RDS OFF', if you then use an arrow button instead of the 'menu' button, the display should change to 'RDS ON' I say should... If you've done this already, then it must be something else :? Maybe the fix is to get rid of the RDS setting?
  24. Option; 'I'll ask the dealer what he uses to fix it, when he does'
  25. I'm still waiting for mine to jump to BST from March... The 6000CD is the one most of us are referring to in the clock fault. My clock randomly resets itself to 0:00 (now 12:00 since I told it I wanted a 12 hour clock) when the central 'power on' button is pressed. I keep on about having the car go back in to have a few niggles fixed, and the clock is one of them. I underatnd from other that there is a fix that the dealer can do, but he did mine and it lasted for 4 days... vitrocmax
