  1. Yes, they all do this. It will turn itself off after about 15-20 minutes. I believe it was a design feature to enable company drivers to check their mileage for fuel cards etc. Andy
  2. The Ghia does not show instant mpg. It shows average mpg, which changes frequently when re-set, then settles down as the miles increase. I think you may be mis-informed. I know it says it in the handbook, but its wrong. I have the flip key, but all the functions are the same on the normal remote key which is my spare. Andy
  3. Thank Thom I was really hoping to do this without adding any more wires!! Andy
  4. Hi all, Does anyone know if there is a reasonably easy way to make the auxillary socket ignition live? Ive just bought a new satnav, done a good job of hiding the wire all the way round to the fag lighter socket, but its a real pain that the socket is always live. I would like to be able to turn the car off without having to unplug the satnav everytime. I know the easy thing would be to wire the satnav directly into the car, but is one of the new Sony ones and it does not come with a spare wire for this. I really dont want to have to cut the plug off the wire, surely it would be easier
  5. There is a setting for turning the RDS time on or off. Mine never changed over automatically until Mon morning! I also tried to change it manually, but because I had rds time on, it instantly went back to one hour slow! Eventually sorted itself out! Andy
  6. Ive not posted for a while...... Thats because since CD41, my car hasnt coughed!!! Sorry to hear about your problems ONSLOWE, but CD41 seemed to do the job on my 2.0TDCi's EGR! As for the theory about holding back before engaging the starter motor. - I tried that when my EGR played up - Never made any difference at all. I really believe that there is no common pattern for the EGR problems I had, one day the car would run great, the next it was a pain in the * * * *! Anyway, although I look at the forum every day, like I said, Ive had no real reason to post. Just goes to show that p
  7. Have a look here mate: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-FOCUS-2005-D ... dZViewItem Andy
  8. Mines the same, but it just pushes back down so I will wait until the first service to get it looked at. Andy
  9. You will be lucky to notice any difference. I put osram silverstars in mine, as they were recommended by autoexpress as the best headlight xenon bulb you can buy. They are a little bit brighter than standard, but not by much! Believe me, they aint NOTHIN like real xenon lights!!! Keep your money in your pocket. I only upgraded my bulbs cause I had a spare set from my old car. Andy
  10. Mine does this - its a diesel and the ticking is the EGR valve cleaning itself. Andy
  11. Or they just put the old version in? My car started playing up from 1 week old, so even a new EGR valve can be problematic. Touch wood, Ive been on CD41 over a month now and not a hint of any problem. JC1978, sounds like you definitely need CD41 and that should be an end to it  Andy
  12. No sorry mate, mine now seems to be o.k. Can you find out from your dealer which CD they installed? It should have been CD41, as this has a fix for the EGR valve on it. I understand (although Im sure Mastertech will correct me!) that CD40 had a problem which meant it could immobilise the engine on the 2.0TDCi. I wonder if your dealer has tried to install this CD and caused your problems? Just a thought, Andy
  13. Ive got the switch on my 05 Focus Ghia, dont know about the CMax though - maybe thats what is confusing the dealer? Andy
  14. Leemarmit, I understand your having C-Max problems and Im sure you wont have any real issues with a Hyundai, although a friend of mine bought a brand new 2.0 Coupe and has had to drive 35miles each way to the nearest Hyundai dealer every week as it keeps going wrong, especially in the engine and brake areas. I was just a bit surprised by your comments. :o Having to undertake a 10 hour drive is quite an arduous affair and I decided to do the mpg test as something to help pass the time! That and Man U being on the radio were the only things that kept me sane! With regard to the other co
  15. I did the same 4 mths ago when I got my mk2 and it looks ace, but I know exactly where your coming from Trying to Focus! Andy
  16. LeeMarMit, go away and buy your Hyundai Tucson, enjoy your 20mpg, increased road tax, lack of dealerships for when it goes wrong, mega depreciation and distinct lack of forums like this that are amazingly helpful to owners who like driving their cars . Hope you enjoy the five year warranty though. - Im sure you will be needing it. I only posted this information to bring together my findings following lots of mpg / egr problems. Everything seems to be sorted now since the software upgrade. As I had a long drive to do and all day to do it, I felt it would be interesting to find out exa
  17. OK mate, it sounds highly likely that this rust damage was caused before the wiper seal recall was done, so your plan to fit the new lamp and grease it sounds like a good 'un to me! Andy
  18. Hi all, Following my thread about the CD41 software upgrade, one benefit I noticed was a slight increase in mpg. On Sunday, I had to drive a nice 570 miles from Peterhead to High Wycombe, and as I was in no rush, for the first 200 miles on quiet scottish roads, I decided to do a few mpg trials. My findings, using cruise control are as follows (2005 2.0 TDCi Ghia - in sixth gear -reset the mpg computer on each 50 mile stint.) 50 miles at cruise controlled 60mph = 62.2mpg 50 miles at cruise controlled 70mph = 57.4mpg 50 miles at cruise controlled 75mph = 52.0mpg 50 miles at cruise contro
  19. Hi mate, Have you tried a white eraser? Seems odd, but if you get polish or any oil based products on the black trim around the car, a good old school rubber takes it off a treat and you can just hoover up any shavings afterwards!  Andy
  20. Why fix it yourself? Surely there is an underlying problem that has caused this? did you have the wiper recall as that let water in the back panel - maybe if you have had the recall, this was caused beforehand? Andy
  21. C'mon everyone! Anybody recommend a garage to Kevin? I work in High Wycombe, but cant really recommend Perrys. Whilst they managed to (touch wood) sort my car, everything that they did was precisley driven by me, thanks to info on this site. Anyone else have any info on a good dealer within driving distance of Northamptonshire? Andy
  22. Rubbish  - I spend my life on the motorway at around 75mph in 6th. Thats 2000rpm, really close to maximum torque. The car pulls great at this speed. I used to have a 2.0tdci mondeo with 6 gears also, and that was pretty much the same as my focus. If your mate doesnt use 6th, Id love to see his mpg!! Andy
  23. Froglet, CD41 has been out for over a month now. Even my local dealer in Peterhead has it, and the garage is quite small. If you dont get any joy in your local area, maybe its worth a day out somewhere and getting them to look at your car. This is good if u can get to somewhere nice and use the garage as free car parking for a few hours! Andy
  24. Froglet, do you have any option to try a different dealer? It sounds like you really have a problem there. Have you checked the basics, such as your air filter being clean and free flowing? (I say the "basics" but thats the only thing I can think of!). -- Im sure others could think of something else to check! Have you thought of taking your car to the dealers, resetting the computer and challenging them to achieve anything like the published mpg? If they see for themselves that only 35mpg is achieveable in light footed driving, they may be more willing to progress the matter further? And
  25. Where are the 7th and eighth speakers meant to fit? are they in the back somewhere? Ive got the 6006 and would like to add the extra 2 speakers, if the wiring is in place, but I cant see where the speakers would go? Anyone help? Thanks andy
