  1. Please can you help Mastertech? Last week my Cmax went in for second service and this week returned for warranty items (Auto headlight sensor& tailgate lock switch) to be fixed. They have also said that between last week and this week, a new revision has been issued from Ford for the Powertrain Control Module. They won't tell me the revision number The upgrade has been done but they can't tell me what the changes are for. Are there any Ford Techs out there who can tell me what the upgrade is for?? TIA Bob
  2. Too early to say Monkeyboy. It is still at the dealer cos I've been too busy at work to pick it up!! I got there a few minutes past 6 tonite and they were still there but would not open the door to me - tossers. Bob
  3. Monkeyboy, I had just the same effect as you. I would leave home on a gloomy morning and the lights would switch on and then stay on even when i needed sunglasses to drive safely later on in the journey. I found that turning the lights off at the switch and back to auto did not clear the fault but stopping the engine and restarting would sort it out. Sometimes using a torch on the sensor after dark I could replicate the fault but other times I could not. When it went in for the service i asked the dealer to have a look and they asked me how to test it and did I know where the sensor was fitted

  5. Are you sure? The normal way Ford achieve this is by reversing the direction of the pump motor. It turns one way and water comes out of one pipe, reverse it and it comes out of the other pipe. Bob
  6. Having thought about this some more. There is no need to proramme the key. It's code is fixed. The act of programming 'teaches' the car about the codes that are allowed to open it. Make sure the battery is in the right way round and that the battery and its contacts are free from finger grease. Best to wipe with a tissue and then not touch the surfaces as you insert the battery into the key. Bob
  7. If you need to do it, the procedure for reprogramming the key is in the owners manual. If you have more than one remote key then all need to be done at the same time Bob
  8. Silver is good as it does not need washing! Don't forget it is only a box on wheels to get you from a to b Running and Ducking Bob
  9. Brighter bulbs maybe but I'd suggest you don't fit higher power bulbs as you might melt the plastic and then you will have to find quite how expensive the lamp assemblies are!! Bob
  10. Why not look it up on Parkers price guide. all online. You have to register but its free. IMHO 87k is nothing for a diesel and its got history so the value will be more to do with its condition and if it needs new tyres, brakes etc I doubt if they would take an offer of £4k but try £4k7 maybe £5k Depends how much time you want to spend looking around. Bob
  11. You might just find that your windscreen cracks soon and you have to get a replacement fitted under your insurance - usually about £60 excess.
  12. I believe that the CD 6000 does not have a socket as standard but that it is possible to buy one to add yourself. You will need the special radio removal tools as well. Search the archives for further info. The Sony radio/CD has the socket fitted as standard and it should be found in the glove box. hth Bob
  13. I would suggest that low 20s round town is either aggressive driving, very short cold runs or a problem. I've read elsewhere that if you take a low mpg problem to a dealer, they will ask for fuel receipts and a mileage log. You might want to start collecting! Regards Bob
  14. Round town MPG really does depend how you drive it and the level of traffic. If you are 'enjoying' the performance of the 2.0tdci then 31mpg may not be too bad. Try a concerted economy trial, using the gears a lot and never exceeding 2000rpm. you should get nearer 40mpg round town and 50 plus on a run. I don't think 31 mpg is low enough to get any dealer sympathy Bob
  15. Dont forget to mark the access to the pollen filter. I put a coloured cable tie on the fuse box (which has to come out to change the filter) Oil filter is front central on the engine just to the right of the fuel filter Look for a large plastic hex nut on a domed cover about 3" diameter Paint tippex on the nut if you want to see if it has been opened. Similarly paint tippex on the bleed nipple covers on all wheel cylinders to see if they have been disturbed. Good to see someone as suspicious as I am!! Bob
  16. Ebay Item 250043795583 or similar. Another member here has used this source and indicated he was pleased with them. Bob
  17. Not sure if this is an EGR problem. 1. The EGR pipes are stainless steel and not small. 2. The pipes are on the top right of the engine not underneath. 3. The EGR does not involve liquids that would leak over the engine. However I do not have a theory as to what it could be. Do let us know what the dealer says. Bob
  18. My max aircon light has always been orange. I can't believe you have booked a service without asking the price. Please could you send me some of you signed blank cheques asap regards Bob
  19. I had a similar experience a few weeks ago apart from the message was something like 'limited EPB function'. It too went away after cycling the ignition switch. Not seen it since. Bob
  20. Does you Max have EPB? I understand that the 'proper' way to do anEPB pad change needs a connection to WDS. My dealer charges extra for this. Add Ford labour charge and the pads. I can see how they might get to £100. If you decide on DIY, then either pull the EPB fuse or keep the key in the ignition throughout the job. Ford recommend rotating the piston as it is pushed back into the caliper. There is a tool to do this. HTH Bob
  21. I've heard that it is a good idea to keep the key in the ignition when changing the pads. This stops the EPB trying to apply the handbrake when the pads are out (or your fingers are in the way!!). If the EPB operates with no pads it over travels and wrecks itself. About £500 for a new one!!!!!!!!!!!! Bob
  22. I think the manual describes the process of changing exactly what the key buttons do. I've not got mine handy at the moment to check but have a read and see. HTH Bob PS good to see you are still around Mastertech!!
  23. Why ask in the Cmax section? 52 plate Focus is a different animal
  24. Simple answer is not here! which is for CMax issues! If you can classify your problem then choose the right technical sectionbut you might need to become a member ie PAY For free help try joining http://www.focusowners.com/forum/index.php Good luck Bob
