  1. The EGR valve lets a controlled amount of exhaust gas back into the inlet of the engine which results in lower NOx emissions. If the valve sticks open, it lets large amounts of exhaust gas recirculate at a time when the engine can't cope with it i.e. when it is off boost. I don't know why disconnecting the battery should affect it. Perhaps it gives it a kick? Neither do I know why it can be fine when you switch the engine off, but stuck open when you switch it back on. :? :? :?
  2. I've been waiting over 2 weeks. They've given me a hire car.
  3. Hope it's your throttle pot, that should be a nice, simple fix. Just for info, my EGR problems resulted in the engine starting, but it would then only struggle up to about 1500 RPM in neutral with lots of misfires. Got my hire car now :D - an Astra 1.8 SRi only a week old. Seems OK but I prefer the C-Max.
  4. Parts currently not in stock due to an upgrade I am told.......we shall see. :(
  5. With both bank drafts and cheques, you'r not even safe when the money goes into your account. If the bank later discover that it is a fraud, they can take the money back from you. I'm not sure what the safest way of selling is. I've always insisted on cash and not had a problem, but it is still not 100% safe.
  6. These are the exact symptoms of a stuck EGR valve. I'm waiting for my third!
  7. Oh no! Knobs again! Welcome to the Forum consumer monkey. :D (You may get the joke later. )
  8. The tone of the Forum might improve if everyone read this before posting: http://www.ffoc.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=73302 8)
  9.     Just read my posts! By the way, the software updates for the C-Max seem to be fine. :D p.s. anyone have a spare EGR valve, I've just been told that they are on short order with no delivery date available. They're getting me a hire car. p.p.s. Welcome to the Forum.
  10. No real need for the sarcasm. It makes the Forum a less pleasant place to be. :(
  11. I used to have 80/100 Watt bulbs in Cibie lamps on a previous car - fantastic! (can only be used off-road though  )
  12. Although I have been having trouble with mine, it boils down to only one problem - EGR! Once this is sorted, it should be fine. Mastertech works in the industry and this gives a false perspective as you see all the problems. Working for BMW at one time was a real eye opener for me! But they look after their customers and keep them sweet. If you want to hear about people with problems, go to the Parkers discussion board. http://forum.parkers.co.uk/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=8
  13. I have to reverse up the slope of my drive and I do it without pressing the throttle, just by being delicate with the clutch. Steeper slopes, or maneuvering more quickly and I just use a trace of throttle. Never had a problem. :D
  14. I've never had my clutch smoke or smell. :?
  15. Did I miss the joke? Why would you want to trash your clutch like this? You should only ever allow the clutch to slip for a few seconds at most.
  16. I think the gaiter is held in place with a cable tie below the knob when it is inside out. It is then folded back over the tie so that you can't see it. Am I making sense? :?
  17. I won't be replacing in the very near future so it sounds like things will have changed again by the time I need to. Why has this model had such a short life? Will it be replaced by a different 1.8 ?
  18. Has anyone driven a 1.8 TDCi ? Are they any good? My company has taken the 2.0 TDCi off its list and I may have to downgrade when it comes time for replacement. Or I could swithch to a non Ford.
  19. When the car was new, I could get 48 mpg on a motorway / A road mixed journey without trying. Since the EGR valve has been replaced and the software updated, the exhaust smells of fuel and I get 38 mpg. Service department say there is nothing wrong with it (in other words, no fault codes recorded).
  20. YES See my previous posts re. EGR valve change and after. It's going back again tomorrow.
