  1. Or get a Fester with the 1.6D motor? Slightly less weight than Focus (the old Fester anyway) so the 90bhp prob like the 110 Focus.
  2. Replaced front pads and disks on 1.6 td at 49,000 and there was about another 5,000+ miles left in pads I'd say. Disks looked fine no rust or apprent uneven wear but didn't measure them. Did pads and disks as we were planning on keeping car for another few years but then sold to brother when Mrs got company car. Rears are drums so would guess they'd last a lot longer.
  3. Yep, nice cars shame about the dealers. (again not all but the bad ones are woeful)
  4. Yea agree, the two I have dealt with would have been from totally different outfits actually fitting the tyres, but think the internet side was etyres both times. And as a comparison on my Fester even the main stealer (name rhymes with Heavens HELLshore) put on a tyre wrong way and then f'd me about swapping it back the right way. I've also used KWIKYFITTY and had a spotty youth bend my sills with careless use of a jack. If internet home service comes up with a good price and it's convenient for them to come to you, it's a good way to buy.
  5. Wife's company uses them a lot and on her (private) Focus they put on a directional tyre the wrong way and marked the alloy. Had 4 fitted to another car. 1st attempt they 'lost' the order but when they did turn up did a good job and then managed not to bill my credit card! Both times they came out cheaper than the national chains but I'm sure a yokel-local under-the-arches place would be cheaper. I'd use them again and very convenient if you are at home anyway and can keep an eye on them.
  6. but the nozzle is just a metal tube, so any suitable sized tube or rod or pole or stick will work? Just wait until that news hits the chav streets and what fun you can have distroying your mates/neighbours/total strangers car......
  7. Saw this when we were looking at a new Fester to replace Focus. Couldn't believe that the fuel filler is unlockable and open to anyone and everyone to poke things into your tank for a laff????
  8. Theres a fix that involves a new lid with a foam seal thats stops it loosing 1/2 the contents just by driving normally.
  9. It didn't seem that much quieter than the Focus but it was a Ghia so may have had more sound deadening? Yes think VWs are prob a better deal when second hand. Taking into account spec and the discount a private punter would get when buying new, Fords prob a better deal. Much nicer on this site, on the MK6 forum some of them have "its not a VW so it must be rubbish" attitude. I come one here, Ford site with pics of a Golf and get nice replies :)
  10. The Focus is no more but its gone to my brother so is still in the family. Gave it a clean up and apart from a slightly sag in the drivers seat material and grubby engine bay was like new. Its been replaced with a MK6 Golf TDI SE company car. The interior of the Golf is a let down after all the hype of how VW have improved it. Its got a Hyundia holiday hire car plastic steering wheel with blanking plates were the missing remote controls should be. An extra £350 if you want them. With the paint the list of the Golf is £17,500. Also heater controls are small with reflections from chrome trim
  11. Yes trip computer results. Not checked it for ages but when I did it was always +/- a couple of MPG so pretty spot on. Old Clio and new Fester also +/- a couple too when I checked those. With modern Diesels being all electronic it knows how much juice its squirting in and how many miles its done so can work out MPG quite accurately?
  12. 1.6 TDCI. Steady 65-70mph for about 80 mostly motorway miles Sat afternoon traffic so reasonably busy. 62.5MPG. On country A-road section was up to about 75MPG.
  13. Yes they are; I run a Ford Fester 1.6L Diesel as my daily driver. The other week Ford wrote to me with a recall letter saying that it was URGENT (their use of capitals) that I contact a Ford dealer to check out my car as they had discovered that some engine mount studs hadn't been screwed in properly and err... engines have been falling out. Phoned local dealer near work and they could see it came up as a recall but couldn't book it in for 2 weeks. Dropped it in and late in afternoon had a call saying yes mine is one of the ones affected (which I already know, Ford wrote to me to tell me!
  14. Most of it's prob sloshing out when you go round the 1st bend or corner. See; http://www.ffoc.co.uk/modules.php?name= ... highlight=
  15. Mates brother prob did drive it hard-ish but seems to be a favorite mainstealer scam, replacing disks and pads at any opportunity. Was also in London and after big bust up they said they thought calipers were faulty but still wouldn't replace them even though it was still under warranty.... he drives an old banger and a newish (old shape) mini and prob will never buy another Ford, ever. I got done £200+ on my old Clio at its 2nd 36K service.
  16. Mrs 1.6 TDCI just had 37,500 service. On the check sheet the pads are noted as 5mm and disks 23.8mm. They didn't recommend changing them. I asked on another thread about disk wear rate and it was decided disks should last two lots of pads. Mates brother had a MK1 from new and main dealer changed disks and pads every service......
  17. Well how many cars would they sell if they quoted a 16+ week delivery time? Hence they lie. With modern computerised logistic and production control I think they know how long it would take. I had a similar problem with a Renault ordered with non standard climate control. Now I write on the order form something like 'order cancelled if not delivered on date specified'
  18. Don't worry with the economy going down the pan and people cutting back on big ticket purchases you'll soon be able to drive away same day any colour/spec you want from the fields full of cars.
  19. I run a Fester 1.6TDCI Z-S, Mrs has the Focus 1.6TDCI Ghia. Not sure what engine was in your Focus but presumably it was petrol. Compared to the Mrs's Focus the fester is like being dragged down the road in a tin bath. Also as standard it looses useful stuff like 'leccy mirrors and heated front screen for some not so useful stuff like allys that are bigger than the others fitted to fiestas. It does have the £35 a year tax and it can certainly pick its feet up and over 11,000 miles I've averaged @51mpg. Previous 02 Clio DCI (which was in hindsight a better car, oh-hum wished I'd kept it)
  20. And you'll get a phone call saying that they started replacing the pads and the disks are worn and thats another £150+ on top
  21. I did this mod a few weekends ago. The tabs are tight, pull the top ones down and push the lower ones up and then pull the strip from outside. After the 1st few are off the rest are easier as you have more leverage pulling the moulding thats already off
  22. The holes seem to taper from @23mm on the outside (as seen when fitted) to @25mm on the inside. The 'how to' guide says the sensors are a loose fit and need securing with some silicon.
  23. I'm part way thru this mod. Got new bumper strip, apprently the P/N listed in the 'how to' has been superseded by F1425867 £23.35 inc VAT. Hope it fits the same. Found some matt grey paint in garage thats the same colour as moulding so I can paint the shiney black sensors. Ordered some £21 sensors from ebay and hope they arrive during week so I can try and fit then next weekend.
  24. Now you mention it, the mirrors do look very clumsy, why so deep?
  25. Naff chrome mustache spoils it somewhat.... and the grey primer colour
