  1. i think i have a thing for tyres, I'm like a woman in a shoe sale, I love the feel of new tyres on the car. Actually I have a soft spot for shoes too...
  2. conti sport 3s are nice, I just bought 2 new ones, but I only paid £135 each after negotiating them down from £168 each. - You seem to have got a similar deal.... my previous conti sport 2s only last 7500 miles.....
  3. Michelins are always a hard compound, and can be somewhat dangerous in the wet. They do however last forever, I got 40k out of one set of rears on my MK1 and about 12k from the fronts. I consider tyres to be the most important part of my car and would rather pay more often for new tyres than take a chance with a hard tyre... just my tuppence
  4. as above 3rd'd ok actually i'm not that vain. but i like the noise my ST-2 makes
  5. Things to consider about replacing Discs/Pads or Both. when were they last changed? How much is left on the disc? - get its thickness measured in mm How much is left on your pads? How many miles have you done on the car / since they were last changed? A set of discs will last up to about 70k if not abused..
  6. very clever focus. My old Rover 75 used to activate the rear screen when ever the temp droped below 10 degrees
  7. perfect thats what i wanted to hear as the other methods wern't sucessful
  8. ok will have a tinker later... cheers I've had the car bloomin 6 months and i've just put up with it
  9. Ok on my ST2 (but I assume is the same for all MK2s) the temp read out is in Fahrenheit, but I want it to read Centigrade..... (does anyone even use Fahrenheit anymore?) My problem comes in when i change the temp to read Centigrade, all the other read outs chage to "Euro tosh" too i.e It changes my mileage from Miles to kilometres! - Its really annoying. Is there a way to simply change the temperature readout with affecting the others?
  10. As above, sounds like your mind is made up. I dont get the Sport switch thing either... why not just make a sporty one, or a non sporty one, it would be nice if it turned it into a 1.9 supercar, but it doesnt. Hope youre happy with it though.
  11. Correct, especially for reverse or it wont go in. I cant think of an occasion where you'd need to use 1st gear if you are already moving........
  12. How long for? Must be roasting!! open the windows.
  13. dont forget to run your AC for 20 mins a week during the winter months too folks....
  14. they'll need to be refurbed. there is no way of just removing the laquer without risk of damage to the paint underneith them. (Having said that i cant tell if they are painted or not) Have you every used anything agressive to clean them? Wonder Wheels, Billberry etc.......?
  15. My MkI was better screwed together than my MKII, but some of the MKII's that I test drove we're sounded like a bag of spanners. I think it's pot luck really. I'm still trying to get over the creaking door rubbers!
  16. water flowed into the car up to the seat base? Sorry but it sounds like he was asking for it! that must have been one hell of a deep puddle! Its not suprising the engine was fubar'd he should have kept the revs up to prevent it stalling. God knows how much water was drawn in through the exhaust
  17. cool - thats how i imagined it would work. the chances are it'll be a service job but dont really want brake fluid spilled over my rocker cover
  18. Whats the story with the position of the brake fluid resevoir tucked under the scuttle panel at the rear of the engine bay. How is this topped up without spilling it everywhere?
  19. i think thats it, but there is a grey one on the MK2.5 ST's not sure i like it if its not actually doing anything. I can understand it on a car like a ferarri or porsche. but a family hatch.... its a step too far in performance styling imo, but ui'm sure it'll be a hit with the younger generation
  20. you mean Faux diffuser. Its not uncommon to have dealer specials speccd up like this, but it'll be interesting if this makes it to the main options list
  21. my coleague at work had this same issue on her C-Max the car wouldnt turn right at all in the end. She fought tooth and nail, but they did it under warranty. Ford UK pushed back, but the dealer was on her side and they managed to push it through.
  22. On the ST the headlamp washers only work with the windscreen washer jets when the headlamps are on. not in normal use when the headlamps are off.... is that the case with yours?
  23. When my Mk1 went in for it 25k service ford tried to tell me that the disks, pads AND Calipers needed changing!!!!!   Ford Scare me sometimes......
  24. how many miles has the car done? - if its less than 60 or 70k then i doubt the actual disks will need changing. Unless you/previous owner drive along while stamping on the brakes every 30 seconds
  25. you beat me too it. The result looks good, but personally I would have dismantled the caliper to paint it, and left the retaining clips and back of the pad as unpainted. just my tuppence
